Can we talk about how cool the crochet and knitting community is?! Using your platform to help people find what they want to wear while shouting out small buisnises, so cool!
not sure how helpful this is, but there are a lot more "vintage" knitting patterns for men because it used to be the only way regular people could have knitwear, but if that's inaccessible for any reason, id say its easier to make more "masc" knit pieces because generally "masculine" clothes utilise more boxy shapes and looser fits. so honestly just play around with making large squares/rectangles and peicing them together! itll help with muscle memory and just getting the hang of knitting in general, and you can really experiment and have fun! idk if that helps, just something i thought might be worth suggesting 😊
The lack of nice clothes for men is such a struggle, I'm more of a crocheter and I'm having to come up with my own stuff in order to make anything nice for myself that isn't either overly feminine or overly boring 😭
@@jackriver8385same theres literally no mens clothes in the thrift stores in my area... my citys 3 story h&m doesnt even have a mens section... Its so dire
Me to except I've been knitting literally 12 years and it's so hard to find any masculine patterns that aren't either boring or the 800th sweater I'll have knitted. Like I just want to make my own clothes because I'm fcking tiny and swim in most men's clothing but all the patterns online are literally sweaters with like 3 hats and 2 scarves thrown in for some "flavor"
the way you talk about masculinity, fashion and sizing is so refreshing. love seeing other queer people out there doing the thing that i am learning!! warms my heart. hi transmasc fiber arts community ily
Me, someone who crochets, on my way to go form an alliance with my sibling who only knits. But in all seriousness, I appreciate this video and its crochet partner so so much!! your videos have made me get back into fiber art again and the masc/genderless lean has been a huge reason for that and it feels so good to make things, so thank youuu
I love this video! I saved so many patterns. I am really into mesh, polos, and textured sweaters rn so this came at the perfect time. Also your colorwork designs are stunning omg
If you like James N. Watts, you might also like Stephen West. He has some very cool sweater patterns that look great on masculine bodies. I'm currently working on his Basketweave Sweater for my husband. Great video, thanks!
ive never seen so many crafty transmasc folks in one comment section before lmao, im getting like second hand joy 😂 I love how knitting/crochet brings so many different groups together and allows people to fully customise their wardrobe to fit their aesthetics, identity, style and expression! yall will SLAY making these patterns, and i hope the finished pieces grant you ALL the gender euphoria 👌 sincerely, a random lesbian on the internet 😂🥰
I can vouch for the pure mesh pullover! Currently working on a Partner Pullover by Lydia Morrow without any shaping and so far it’s going great, so I’d recommend checking that one out as well
It took me almost two years to finish the Pure Mesh pullover. I don't even know how many times I frogged it. What finally helped was adding a lifeline every five or so rows, in case any stitches dropped or if there were errors.
Thanks for this! It's hard to find knitting recommendations videos, specially for different and not basic patterns. I really like your earth vest (I saw it on Instagram once and ended up finding your channel), but I wish there was a knitted version. It would be really cool if you did a knitting pattern version of it one day ^^
This is kind of late, and idk what kind of colourwork/pattern/vibe you're going for, but I have the same issue sometimes and for me it's helped to do most of my colourwork on the back?
To me, all-over colorwork in geometric shapes accomplishes this. Especially when paired with a boxy/oversized shape-- ie, and oversized, drop-shoulder sweater.
as a curvy person, the problem i find with size inclusive patterns, especially by straight size people, is that they don't take into consideration body shape. there may be 5 or 10 sizes in the pattern, but no patterns i've ever seen include different body types. i'm an hourglass and my wife is an apple, so where a pattern made for me would increase at the waist (edit: hips), hers would decrease. it's literally impossible to make any pattern size inclusive, even with the consideration of body shape. good on these creators for trying, but that would take forever.
I don't know. I am late gen X and I do find these patterns to be non-feminine. I would classify them as "non-binary," which appeals to me as I am myself nonbinary. When I was younger, I felt more masculine, and to me that meant wearing black and gray mostly-- "drab" colors, and angular shapes. Is that conception of masculine dress similar to what you are referring to as the "masculine" of millennials?
A bit disappointing, not really for men, and the masculine influence, a bit of a stretch. Do a men’s pattern. Also a lot of patterns, including knitting and machine knitting, the sleeves are too short, always add 5cm on average for sleeves. Industrial sizing charts a plus.

😭 this is amazing to hear! I hope you continue to feel inspired by the amazing genderless patterns being released!
The duck vest is also my favourite pattern of yours! Also the crochet version 🦆❤️🔥

I’m a trans man knitter and omg this channel is such a beautiful niche of interests. Love your channel 🫶
Your duck pattern is actually the reason I found you. Love it!
When I saw this video I was so jazzed! I started knitting recently and it’s been hard to find stuff I like
I also love your duck vest. It’s on my list to make. Alas I’m very broke this month so can’t afford the pattern/supplies but hopefully next month!

I think the short staple beanie by new wave knitting is a great pattern and very versatile! Its giving Jackson from Gilmore Girls and I’m here for it
Looking to make some pieces for me & hubby to share, this vid was super helpful! :D

but also i WANT to take up knitting 😭😭😭😭
Love to see Knitwits And Yarns get a shout-out!
I really enjoyed your podcast. Thank you for such an interesting category.
Ohhh I love this
So exited
Currently trying to design a sweater and honestly trying to get the colourwork to work with a shape that minimises my chest dysphoria is a STRUGGLE

Maybe I should learn to knit one day
The link for the vintage checkered sweater pattern doesn't seem to be working for me, is there a different link I could try? Great vid btw!
It should be fixed now, I’ll check the rest of the links later too. Thanks for letting me know!

4:04 off topic, but as a German myself I am curious, is the word "Spiel" used regularly in the english speaking community?
I can’t say for all of English speakers but as an American it’s very common.
very nice!
I'm an old soul millennial who is still learning the language of the zoomers. What is a polo moment?
I swear masculine clothing means a completely different thing to gen z vs millenials. Unless maybe its a class thing instead
