  • I only fly GA aircraft and wanted to test out the BeyondATC addon module for MSFS.
My first first full flight went very well from a towered airport to another towered airport.
This is my second full flight - this time from a non-towered airport to a towered airport. It went well except for a change from ATC that threw me off a bit, then I really messed up by shutting down BeyondATC by mistake.
However all ended well with a safe flight.
I am looking forward to when BATC releases ATC coverage for VFR flights.
At the time of this video BATC is in Early Access stage - which means before you purchase it you have to agree to the fact that there are still many bugs in the program. But the developers are extremely thorough and are working hard to make things perfect.

I've been enjoying beyond ATC playing GA, looking forward to them getting VFR and other air traffic implemented

I think not having other aircraft is a real immersion killer. This is a step in the right direction. Glad to see someone doing GA aircraft. I will probably turn the interface off an have my scratchpad with me to make it more real.

Thanks for your comment - yes I totally agree. I did post that question on their Forum and the answer I got was that not at this time, but after they introduce AI traffic to the program then maybe we will hear interaction. But I don't think they will do a true Multiplayer platform. I am looking forward to VFR as I fly 90% VFR 10% IFR and 100% GA aircraft.
I just did another video where I was testing Visual Approach with the airport in view. Now I need to do yet another test to see how BATC handles when you are not able to see the airport - will do that tonight.

Just found your channel. I only fly GA, so this video has been really useful to me, as I have just bought BATC and am struggling with getting the right phraseology. Thanks. Good luck with growing your channel.

I do YT videos for enjoyment, not sure how to grow the channel - if it grows that would be great if not that's OK.

Keep making quality videos and people will flock to you. I liked your airport, by the way. I haven't ventured out of the UK yet, but I'll get there eventually. As it happens, I did my first full flight using BATC today. Apart from some bizarre vectoring, I had a great time. Your video taught me to look at the written text to work out what I need to say. I also found that the controllers have a sense of humour. I quoted my altitude as fl 3505 instead of fl035, and the controller asked if I was in a rocket ship!

I purchased BATC even though it’s still so early. As they stated, it’s very buggy and still needs plenty of work. No UI in vr makes it tricky, without prompts to help learning curve. Had a couple CTD’s. Went back to msfs on-line atc. It’s very adequate for now. I’ll wait until BATC is released in complete alpha.

Kenny, it is buggy, but I've had at least 1 update every time I've started it, and it is improving. Once they add traffic, VFR and VR, I'm sure it will be great.

@@q8386Absolutely! I notice all the updates. They’re working very hard to get this up to full capability. Very exciting things to come!

I only fly GA airplanes, too, and was glad to find your video on using BeyondATC. I must be doing something wrong in SimBrief because I can't get my full tail number in ATC's responses. I usually fly the Bonanza G36 with N1458U identifier, but ATC calls me "Bonanza 58U." How do I get ATC to use my full tail number?

One of two things could be happening - 1. BATC only wants to use the last three numbers/letter of your call sign - or - 2. You have not got the full call sign in your SimBrief airplane.
Do you know how to create a "New Airframe" in SimBrief? That's what you have to do, I did that for all the airplanes I normally fly.
Click on "Open Airframe Editor" at the Top Right of Aircraft Info. Then click New Airframe at the top left of the white page. Then Select your aircraft. Then change "Civil Registration" to your numbers. Remove "Fin Number". Then click "Save Airframe" in top left of white page.
Next time you create a new flight - Choose "Aircraft Type" as usual, then click the box beside it and choose your Save Airframe.

I've learned from watching real-life GA videos that ATC typically identifies planes by the type and last 3 characters of the identifier. What you're experiencing is accurate. Check out a channel like Aviation 101 to hear what I'm talking about.

@@jazzman4959 Real life procedure is to use your full callsign when first contacting an ATC station. If there are no other aircraft on the same frequency with a similar callsign ATC will at some point respond using an abbreviated callsign. Here in the UK that means G-ABCD would become G-CD. Only after the controller has used an abbreviated callsign may the pilot use it in their calls.

    • @kenrathjen2286

@@jazzman4959 You're absolutely correct about sometimes being able to use only the last 3 characters of your tail number. I am a private pilot with instrument rating and have flown over 1.000 hours in the system. However, the initial call up to ATC and their response is always done with the full tail number including the initial "N" ( if in the USA.) You only use the abbreviated form with subsequent calls to the same controller. When you are passed off to another controller (Center, Approach, Tower, etc.) you start all over again with full numbers. Also all calls are done phonetically. For example Bonanza N1458U becomes "Bonanza, November-One-Four-Fife-Eight-Uniform." The phonetic alphabet uses the standard ICAO alphabet. Also numbers are a little different: 3 is 'Tree'; 5 is 'Fife'; and 9 is 'Niner'. My problem was with BeyondATC only using the abbreviated form both in ATC's responses and the pilot's inputs when using the "canned" mouse activated queries. I have fixed the problem by properly configuring my airplane in SimBrief thanks to "SimAirFlyer"'s suggestions.

Is a C150 equipped for RNAV approaches.?

    • @simairflyer
      @simairflyer  2 місяці тому

Good question - I do not know as I do not have a C150, but I doubt it has GPS. But the C152 from JPLogistics (not the default MSFS) does have a GPS and is capable of RNAV.
