    France’s Romain Cannone has had the Games of his life by beating world champion Hungary’s Gergeley Siklosi in the final of the men’s individual épée at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020. The 24-year-old rank outsider, who was making his Olympic debut, took command of the contest from the start by going 2-0 up before world ranked number one, Siklósi, scored a point. The final result was 15-10.

    To make this achievement even more amazing, look at the world rankings of the people he beat: he beat 9th ranked Limardo, 7th ranked Verwijlen, 2nd ranked Bida, 3rd ranked Reizlin, and finally 1st ranked Siklosi. He could not have had a more difficult route, and yet he pulled it off. He beat the entire World Top 3 in a row.

      Ducking makes your hand closer to their feet as well, it’s much easier to go for leg touch whilst ducking. The down side is that you’re very committed then.

    • @tristanl8874
      @tristanl8874 3 роки тому +8

      No. The fencing blade is connected by wire to the end cord, you would probably break it and plus I’m pretty sure it’s against the rules

    • @christianfournier6862
      @christianfournier6862 2 роки тому +10

      @Pablo= You cannot throw your sword, it’s against the rules (and besides it would make you helpless if your throw were parried).
      However there are two sorts of handles for épée ; the first is “poignée droite” (straight handle) in which you can change the position of your hand on the handle ; the second is “poignée crosse” (contoured handle) in which your fingers are in a grip over the contours of the handle.
      With a “poignée crosse” you have more strength when you beat your opponent’s blade or oppose his beat, but the “allonge” of your épée (i.e. elongation from your chest to the point of the sword) can’t be modified.
      With a “poignée droite”, you can shift you hand on the handle so that the “allonge” can be increased or decreased by a few centimeters (but obviously there are no contours, so your grip of the handle has less strength).
      It is a matter if choice for fencers to use what handle suits them best. The more ‘physical-minded’ prefer the “poignée crosse” and the more ‘tactical minded’ prefer the “poignée droite” which can give a few critical centimeters of “allonge”.
      But anyway, a “poignée droite” fencer will only change the position of his hand on the handle during a preparation phase, or during a lull in the assault. Within an action, the hand will keep a firm grip on the handle!

      I’m not very well versed on the subject but I’m pretty sure throwing the weapon is not allowed. In any case it would be disadvantageous as you would be vulnerable while attempting to recover your weapon and stance
