The old Prince of Persia was an incredibly difficult game to play. I was a kid too when I played the first demo. Never managed to get far beyond the first screens.
10:38 Well, the audience is there, just on social media and working in marketing/dev. The odd thing is even when they can afford to financially support products they claim to support they never or rarely do which is why they keep failing, at least that's how it is the majority of the time recently in the gaming community. I'm not sure how products outside of that go as I only see the ones that get a big enough backlash to get noticed by the arch and other YT'ers I watch for things not in my bubble. I was never interested in the Prince of Persia series as I suck at platformers so I didn't even know it was released, but I've found that recently a lot of things are getting released without me hearing about them.
You'll have to speak for yourself there, Arch! I saw the writing on the wall years and years before and have been acting accordingly ever since. If they sold you out before, they will do so again. Do not forget, do not forgive.
I remember playing one of the old school Prince of Persia games on a PC at school, a PC that ran on Windows 3.1. I'm not one for platformers, but PoP is a series I have enjoyed over the decades. Only reasons I didn't get the new PoP is purely down to modern day Ubisoft publishing it and I might be wrong here but it's on Uplay.
I think the major issue of this game is this was launched on Ubisoft own launcher early this year and was only released in steam last august. All the hype was gone by the time it reached steam. Ever wonder why they will (if ever) to release the new AC shadow in day 1 on steam here is the reason.
"I doubt we are going to see the death of Ubisoft" Probably not, If anything Bethsda will die first because they refuse to adapt, get with the times and know nothing about what makes their games grate.
Honestly, my dislike for that character design isn't because he doesn't look authentically Persian (Schwarzenegger never even looked even close to a Cimmerian but still made an awesome Conan). It's the fact that this Prince of Persia looks like a modern day American from a progressive city, and the styles and aesthetics of that culture are atrocious.
Even if the game isn't particularly Woke the company that produces it most certainly IS. That is a large part in why the last PoP game fail, along with HORRENDOUS marketing (seriously, I had no clue a new PoP game was coming out until like the week of its release).
Personally I can confirm that every thing you said regarding my interest in this game was pretty spot on. I have been playing Prince of Persia games since the NES and have even played its less well known first foray into the 3rd dimension "Prince of Persia 3D" back in 1999 before the release of Sands of Time which really popularized the series. As a fan of Prince of Persia and Metroidvania style games I was the target audience for this type of game but the initial trailer just squandered any excitement I had. Sure, the character design was such a departure from previous installments in the series but more importantly any gameplay shown in the trailer didn't appeal to me as a Metroidvainia fan. I can't put it quite into words at the moment but it lacked that spark that I felt when I watched the gameplay for Ori, Hollow Knight, F.I.S.T., Sundered, Salt and Sanctuary, BloodStained, Shantae, Axiom Verge, Guacamelee, Dead Cells, to name a few that I love from my library. This should have been a day 1 purchase for someone like myself... but it just wasn't and I think Ubisoft only really have themselves to blame.
Hey Arch... it might be a good stream idea to play through the really old pixilated games. I remember that only my father could beat the game when I was a child, so I used to think he was good at Video Games. ... He's not he just actually understood how that game worked and that was all he needed. So it could be something for you to do, read through a quick guide and play on! The first game is so short it's designed to be completed within an hour.
Great to see them struggling. They deserve it. Haven't bought a game from Ubisoft since last decade, and I will continue not giving them money. They have a long ways to go before they re-earn my business.
We live in a 15 minute news cycle full of collapsing monoliths and these cretins think they are still as valued as when we had to wait MONTHS for second hand accounts of a games quality during the ascension of a hobby industry into the endless more and stagnation of console-first development entrapment.
Fun part is that in the prince of persia game that later became assassin's creed (whose success basically left PoP franchise to struggle) player was supposed to be a bodyguard of the young prince.
Honestly that could have worked if it was handled well. An ancient Persian empire with elements of mystical artifacts as you maybe even work alongside the prince on his journey to becoming the prince we know him to become. The king of Persia tasking you with eliminating rivals and threats to the throne as you work to Eliminate various regional claimants and warlords who all were involved in a conspiracy to kill the prince and claim his throne. Overtime the prince learns from the bodyguard, developing skills and techniques that make him more formidable.
Recent Prince of Persia has to be my personal record of excitement to disappointment. Loved the previous games, including the fourth one and the solid sidescroller PSP one, so I perked up when I saw the announcement trailer and IMMEDIATELY deflated when I saw the haircut.
The unfortunate part of this is that I doubt the most of dev team had control of the main character or the marketing. I don't expect the executives involved to be fired, they just lost a bonus or some other intensive.
Every dev on that team could have chosen to find work somewhere else, they earned this and the gaming industry will be better off if they are never allowed to work in gaming ever again
as fan of prince of Persia since i was a child (especially the 3d one) I was so happy that for years the series was dormant. because i knew the moment they do anything with it. it will be trash. As far i am concerned, only POP sand of time and warrior within are the real games. i am not fan of two thrones, it feel unfinished and they ended the series badly but it's passable game. warrior within is the peak of the series but sadly it sold less than sand of time so that why i suspect it's why two thrones is the way it is (regression, as also feel like they wanted to wrap things up fast)

So the only decent game they made, and the first to be fired. Ubisoft
Yes
I got it for $15 the other day and it's honestly has not been good so far.
Calling this slop decent says more about your lack of standards than anything else

I was disinterested the moment i heard hip hop on the trailer.
They turned a white persian prince into a black guy with modern haircut🤣
Nice thumbnail. French version of a quick short back and side(s) for the Prince of Persia. "Would Sir/Madam like a basket, to go (on the dole)".
"No, no, no... That's not how that happened."
You'll have to speak for yourself there, Arch! I saw the writing on the wall years and years before and have been acting accordingly ever since.
If they sold you out before, they will do so again. Do not forget, do not forgive.
Once they have HR, there’s almost nothing to be done. Shame
Side cut on the box means insta nope.
It's disbanding the FAKE Prince Of Persia developers.
Nothing of value was lost
Thanks for the breakdown as to why "No such thing as bad publicity" no longer holds. That was very informative. 👍
I’m sure they will look over their situation and come to a logical conclusion as to what went wrong… in the next one it will be a woman of color.
I think the major issue of this game is this was launched on Ubisoft own launcher early this year and was only released in steam last august. All the hype was gone by the time it reached steam. Ever wonder why they will (if ever) to release the new AC shadow in day 1 on steam here is the reason.
Nope, you just cope hard as hell
Along with the fact Ubi didn't really advertise this game compared to their other titles. So not many PoP fans knew about it.
I'm not sorry. Make games that gamers want not what you want to push.
Prince of Subsahara Africa
@@Pr0m3th310us Might as well save your energy, more and more people seem fine defending spineless dev's now.
as fan of prince of Persia since i was a child (especially the 3d one) I was so happy that for years the series was dormant. because i knew the moment they do anything with it. it will be trash.
Ubisoft best reviewed game in a while and it didn’t sell. First smart thing they’ve done is to shut the studio down. You don’t double down on failure.
Prince of Persia but without the prince and without Persia, no I'm not playing that
Cutting costs from a moderately good game to compensate for utter garbage ones. Make it make sense.
Been playing Rainbow Six since 2015 (blimey...) and I can't tell you how much it delights me to see Ubisoft getting a solid, existentially threatening kick to the rear.
Yeah, I remember this. Completely ignored the game because it wasn't PoP.
Arch is wrong about online advertising, they only advertise products after you bought the stuff online.
The classic move of slashing the smaller projects to attempt to save the larger projects.
The game "The Prince of Persia" that's not about the Prince and not set in Persia 😅
PFT-
I hated the race swap so I didn't get it, but I've heard the gameplay wasgood, and that's the studio they dissolved? KEK WEW
Reminded me of hi-fi rush and tango
You mean to say the blacks didn't show up in droves to buy a Killmonger in ancient Persia game? Who could've guessed.
Correction: It's not Ubisoft cutting costs. It's Tencent with their 13.91% shares. Biggest share holder by far. And we all know the tencent way - if it ain't making money put more microtransactions into it, and if you can't just axe it.
didnt even know this game existed. so no big loss to me. prince of persia has been dead since the mid 2000s to me
Which is sad because this is the best prince of persia game ever made..
Something something consequences of your actions etc.
We can keep boredom away longer than Corpos can stay solvent, remember that. Capitalism HO!
I did not play it since there was no Persian in the Prince of PERSIA Game
The problem with Lost Crown was you weren't playing the prince, and you weren't in Persia......so the title was completely meaningless.
I'd rather want to play a child prince escaping from the bandits with wit and stealth, being the main motivation for why the prince got so athletic.
In fact...why isn't there a cutesy 2d platformer with a kid Prince?????
Just no. You really want these same weirdos to target children? Cuz we all know how they would make that child game inappropriate. Just dont even go there.
@reaper_exd7498 we can't even have games with kids now? I really dislike this trend of the modern """"right"""" pearl clutching and coddling kids. This is one of the reason no one grows up
