I applied three times to CD Project Red for an IT Manager and Help Desk Manager. I have 30 years in the field. 10 years of it as a Manager. I was told by them through an automated system that they found someone more qualified… 30 fucking years in the IT field with 10 as a manager. Who did they get that is more qualified? Gabe Newell? Oh, trust me - they *want* to do it. Boy, I have some interesting stories to tell that I heard from a CDPR employee I met at a QA convention in Poland (back when Cyberpunk was in a middle of development). I don't want to write an essay here so I'll just tell you this: the rot has already began to seep in during that time, and the botched release of Cyberpunk was partially due to a lot of key personnel leaving shortly after they've noticed those changes happening. It goes back THAT long, and it probably took very long for it to take the company over because Poles are really resistant to this bs. But it seems after enough of the original teams left and new people were hired it has eventually happened.

It's always the HR isn't it? Only they have time for this crap. Only it didn't go very smoothly. Majority of devs at CDPR were very clued into the culture war even back then when it still has not arrived at Poland. So literally right after the presentation HR did about this they started asking hard hitting questions. None of them were actually answered, just side stepped. One guy even went as far as started talking about what this was actually all about, only to be cut off by one of the presenters, they were clearly scared there was so much opposition. Then after the presentation there was a lot of talk of discontent between employees and the head HR lady kept receiving messages from people saying how they don't want this in their company. It all culminated when the CEO chimed in on their internal messaging board, basically chastising people for acting like this. And told everybody in no uncertain terms that anybody who disagrees with this isn't a decent person and is free to leave, because there is no place at CDPR for people with outdated views. I'm paraphrasing but that's the essence of it. And guess what, people took him up on that. The first guy that left left IN STYLE. He wrote a message and sent it on a general channel where he denounced both the CEO and the HR for doing this, said this will ruin CDPR long term and that there is no place for this weak American culture in a polish software company. Only he did it in a way less polite way. He also said this in email to every single employee and told everybody that they better start looking for work elsewhere and that he will gladly help them because he has some connections. Then following that guy some other skilled, key developers left, leaving a lot of teams in bad spots. They all quit in similar fashion, probably emboldened by the first guy. And that's where that story ended since it was still an ongoing thing at the time when I was told about it. By the way back then I wasn't THAT tuned into the culture war myself but it was my person trigger point that got me interested in the subject and made me research it more. So thanks for that random CDPR guy for making me aware of what is going on, I hope he quit his job too in a spectacular fashion and found a better one!
The female parity thing in the industry is the nexus of dei/nepotism failure. Statistically speaking in all fields involving video game creation aside from graphic artists (still 3/1)organic interest in the field is 25/1 male/female on average meaning for every 1 woman like say Amy Hennings who is actually passionate about the field there are 25 passionate men. So when you set a goal to have 50/50 representation in hiring what you are doing is immediately and arbitrarily throwing out 95% of the talent pool from consideration for 50% of your job openings at the start of the hiring process. Then there aren't enough passionate women to fill all those rolls, so you have to offer to pay for their schooling and guarantee them a spot to create the supply for your nepotistic demands and that's where the opportunistic activists come in. CDPR sadly is probably done.
It helps if you use words correctly. _Nepotism_ is the practice of treating relatives better in business, whether that means giving jobs to children who have not earned them or could not perform them competently, offering discounts to relatives, or buying products from relatives with company funds when there are better/cheaper alternatives.

Investment money that doesn't necessarily come with the stipulation that it be paid back with a profitable product, so long as the message is delivered. That makes it positively mouthwatering for executive level employees that directly earn bonuses/options for securing funding for new "business development." As we see, the consequences are years downstream of this traitorous behavior, which made it all the more enticing. You have to understand, that C-level executives of multi-hundred-million-dollar operations don't make decisions based on the results of existing projects (aka 'profits') since that is 'reactionary.' This is normally sound practice, since any decisions they do make will take years to manifest. DEI/ESG offered a very low risk way to grow their business by playing directly on the criteria these officers are attuned to, and lying to them about the very-well-hidden inevitable consequences. It really is a redux of the 1980s when American corporations sold out almost entirely to foreign investors to become 'global' companies. Only this time they're selling out to the Chinese government, with the promise of one day being granted state-sanctioned monopolies (only end-game that makes sense for any of this). Three generations of executives were made rockstars by taking in DEI/ESG money, and it looks like its downfall will only doom a portion of the current generation; a net win for business-jerks. It really was a very well crafted weapon, tailor made for these types of employees to turn them against their employers, and it's so well crafted and sophisticated that it makes sense it was set up as a state-operated tool for undermining China's foreign competition in select industries.
@@thomgizziz CDPR was in serious trouble after Cyberpunk. Sure, they had lots of pre-orders but because the game was so bad and broken they offered refunds. Most people took them. I'm sure a lot didn't or bought it later at a discount. Everybody knows they lost a lot in investments and their stock price sunk. What about that says to you they were doing great? The "record profits" is such bs. Does your money go as far today due to inflation? Neither does theirs. If you make 3% more and are making more than you ever had before it's not enough to offset inflation which means you still have less than before. Unless they're "record profits" are at least up around 10-15% they're profit margin is down. Which means they're not doing better anymore than you are. No investor looks at profits. They look at profit margins and they're down pretty much across the board.

It does, I don't think there's any real alternative to GOG when it comes to being DRM-free. Downside of that, beyond supporting CDPR, is that they won't have all the games you might want to buy. Probably because publishers and developers want this in their games. Well, there might be an option, but the legality of it is questionable. And chances are, should someone ever come knocking on your door for sailing the seven seas, the law will not be on your side.

An interesting question indeed. From what I can tell, even though CDPR owns GOG, they are overall pretty separate entities. Will GOG be on the chopping block once CDPR's losses start soaring too high in an effort to cut costs? Who knows.... Would definitely suck though, because GOG is the only place I buy and ever will buy games (unless somebody else starts doing offline installers). EDIT: Correction, GOG is owned by CD Projekt, not CD Projekt Red directly. So CDPR self deleting might not necessarily mean the death of GOG too.
GOG banned my friend back in the first days of Kabrutus' rise for speaking out against SBI, so there's that. After threatened with a lawsuit they did unban him, but they were pretty fast to hop in bed with SBI. Haven't bought a game on their platform since. hi @Arch, just to inform you, the CDPR started going Woke around 2-3 years before the Cyberpunk announcement (probably earlier, but that's when we noticed it with other devs), it was and is a slow process that started when the higher-ups at CDPR and GOG started looking at obtaining investments and potential "loans" worldwide to "fuel growth" of the company and support the projects in the works. That was when the ESG score had been suggested more and more (mandated, really) in talks from investors, activists and people around the gaming industry. I remember the events at GIC/PGA and talks that people were having, all about what was going on. It was an open secret. In Poland almost everyone knows each other and knew what was going on. Please, note that in Poland people are moderate in this and are not motivated to "fix" games. The issue is with more and more hires from out of the country (as there are more and more polarized opinions that influence what people are making).

Boy, I have some interesting stories to tell that I heard from a CDPR employee I met at a QA convention in Poland (back when Cyberpunk was in a middle of development). I don't want to write an essay here so I'll just tell you this: the rot has already began to seep in during that time, and the botched release of Cyberpunk was partially due to a lot of key personnel leaving shortly after they've noticed those changes happening. It goes back THAT long, and it probably took very long for it to take the company over because Poles are really resistant to this bs. But it seems after enough of the original teams left and new people were hired it has eventually happened.
The executives are grossly corrupt people, so it's no wonder the OG team left.

It didn't start with executives, it started with HR ladies pushing western values of the employees, you know the typical nice sounding things like "equality" and "diversity", basically the initial pitch woke people do when they want to convert people, things that on the surface sound nice and you wouldn't disagree with because you're a polite person. It's always the HR isn't it? Only they have time for this crap.
Only it didn't go very smoothly. Majority of devs at CDPR were very clued into the culture war even back then when it still has not arrived at Poland. So literally right after the presentation HR did about this they started asking hard hitting questions. None of them were actually answered, just side stepped. One guy even went as far as started talking about what this was actually all about, only to be cut off by one of the presenters, they were clearly scared there was so much opposition. Then after the presentation there was a lot of talk of discontent between employees and the head HR lady kept receiving messages from people saying how they don't want this in their company.
It all culminated when the CEO chimed in on their internal messaging board, basically chastising people for acting like this. And told everybody in no uncertain terms that anybody who disagrees with this isn't a decent person and is free to leave, because there is no place at CDPR for people with outdated views. I'm paraphrasing but that's the essence of it. And guess what, people took him up on that.
The first guy that left left IN STYLE. He wrote a message and sent it on a general channel where he denounced both the CEO and the HR for doing this, said this will ruin CDPR long term and that there is no place for this weak American culture in a polish software company. Only he did it in a way less polite way. He also said this in email to every single employee and told everybody that they better start looking for work elsewhere and that he will gladly help them because he has some connections.
Then following that guy some other skilled, key developers left, leaving a lot of teams in bad spots. They all quit in similar fashion, probably emboldened by the first guy. And that's where that story ended since it was still an ongoing thing at the time when I was told about it.
By the way back then I wasn't THAT tuned into the culture war myself but it was my person trigger point that got me interested in the subject and made me research it more. So thanks for that random CDPR guy for making me aware of what is going on, I hope he quit his job too in a spectacular fashion and found a better one!

The female parity thing in the industry is the nexus of dei/nepotism failure. Statistically speaking in all fields involving video game creation aside from graphic artists (still 3/1)organic interest in the field is 25/1 male/female on average meaning for every 1 woman like say Amy Hennings who is actually passionate about the field there are 25 passionate men. So when you set a goal to have 50/50 representation in hiring what you are doing is immediately and arbitrarily throwing out 95% of the talent pool from consideration for 50% of your job openings at the start of the hiring process. Then there aren't enough passionate women to fill all those rolls, so you have to offer to pay for their schooling and guarantee them a spot to create the supply for your nepotistic demands and that's where the opportunistic activists come in.
CDPR sadly is probably done.

Investment money that doesn't necessarily come with the stipulation that it be paid back with a profitable product, so long as the message is delivered. That makes it positively mouthwatering for executive level employees that directly earn bonuses/options for securing funding for new "business development." As we see, the consequences are years downstream of this traitorous behavior, which made it all the more enticing.
You have to understand, that C-level executives of multi-hundred-million-dollar operations don't make decisions based on the results of existing projects (aka 'profits') since that is 'reactionary.' This is normally sound practice, since any decisions they do make will take years to manifest. DEI/ESG offered a very low risk way to grow their business by playing directly on the criteria these officers are attuned to, and lying to them about the very-well-hidden inevitable consequences. It really is a redux of the 1980s when American corporations sold out almost entirely to foreign investors to become 'global' companies. Only this time they're selling out to the Chinese government, with the promise of one day being granted state-sanctioned monopolies (only end-game that makes sense for any of this).
Three generations of executives were made rockstars by taking in DEI/ESG money, and it looks like its downfall will only doom a portion of the current generation; a net win for business-jerks. It really was a very well crafted weapon, tailor made for these types of employees to turn them against their employers, and it's so well crafted and sophisticated that it makes sense it was set up as a state-operated tool for undermining China's foreign competition in select industries.

I'm sure a lot didn't or bought it later at a discount. Everybody knows they lost a lot in investments and their stock price sunk. What about that says to you they were doing great? The "record profits" is such bs. Does your money go as far today due to inflation? Neither does theirs. If you make 3% more and are making more than you ever had before it's not enough to offset inflation which means you still have less than before. Unless they're "record profits" are at least up around 10-15% they're profit margin is down. Which means they're not doing better anymore than you are. No investor looks at profits. They look at profit margins and they're down pretty much across the board.

An interesting question indeed. From what I can tell, even though CDPR owns GOG, they are overall pretty separate entities. Will GOG be on the chopping block once CDPR's losses start soaring too high in an effort to cut costs? Who knows.... Would definitely suck though, because GOG is the only place I buy and ever will buy games (unless somebody else starts doing offline installers).

GOG banned my friend back in the first days of Kabrutus' rise for speaking out against SBI, so there's that. After threatened with a lawsuit they did unban him, but they were pretty fast to hop in bed with SBI. Haven't bought a game on their platform since. I remember the time when CDPr wanted an engine for their game, (Witcher 1), and had the skill to take the Bioware Aurora Engine under license, (Neverwinter Nights, KOTR), and craft their game from that even though quite a bit of the original source was lost to time at that point. hi @Arch, just to inform you, the CDPR started going Woke around 2-3 years before the Cyberpunk announcement (probably earlier, but that's when we noticed it with other devs), it was and is a slow process that started when the higher-ups at CDPR and GOG started looking at obtaining investments and potential "loans" worldwide to "fuel growth" of the company and support the projects in the works. That was when the ESG score had been suggested more and more (mandated, really) in talks from investors, activists and people around the gaming industry. I remember the events at GIC/PGA and talks that people were having, all about what was going on. It was an open secret. In Poland almost everyone knows each other and knew what was going on. Please, note that in Poland people are moderate in this and are not motivated to "fix" games. The issue is with more and more hires from out of the country (as there are more and more polarized opinions that influence what people are making).
This same thing happened within writing decades ago and even to this day partly. Not saying women only write slop but most of it is. 🤷🏼♂️

The illness was ALWAYS on the BRAND to qualify their worth and relate to the consumers and they have been gaslighting us for so long that people have FORGOTTEN that and think it is somehow our job as consumers to go through a laundry list and PERFECTLY vet, articulate and reason around why we DON'T want to spend our hard earned MONEY on a PRODUCT.
If these teams have any market analysts, they know what they are supposed to be avoiding and they know what successful IP's to take inspiration from. Doing anything less is basically working in spite of the customer, which is why seeing CDPR with so much as a rainbow shirt reads as an automatic "Yeah, no" from me.
