When you started this you weren’t a luthier. And, now, you are! You did it! And sharing the journey with us was a wonderful experience! Congratulations! I enjoyed it all very much, and this final chapter was the best. The guitar sound is awesome! I wish you great success in your luthier business!!
Thanks so much Charles! You stuck with me the entire time and even before that during the ukulele build! Thanks for all the encouragement and comments along the way!
I’ve heard a lot of acoustic guitars in my time, but your hand crafted guitar is the best I have EVER heard! Listening to you strum away at the end of this video brought all the memories of my Dad sitting at the foot of my bed and picking out folk tunes. He was the best, and your work is AMAZING!!!!!! 🤯👏👏👏👏👏
Hi Chris. I'm Jeff from the UK and about to start my own journey in guitar making. Absolutely love your series which I've just finished watching. The trials and tribulations..warts and all..videos are brilliant. Keep it up fella, the guitar sounds awesome..thanks for sharing this adventure..🎸👍
Thanks so much for the comment. It felt like a grand adventure going through it. I am glad I had the motivation to keep up with it and record the whole thing. It‘ll be good memories to look back on for sure!
Hi Chris wow !! man what an adventure that was, to say i enjoyed it would be a massive understatement, i have watched 100's of guitar building videos but this series was by far the best i have seen you showed us all what it really takes to build a guitar warts an all and it was these moments that are truly priceless for the rest of about to embark on the same journey, your a really top dude man and also very funny i laughed so many times watching you loose your mind lol i will be exactly the same im sure of this just as we all will, at each step you could see the sheer delight and pleasure as you conquered each one, the total dedication you have and the honesty in your work and learning curve was was a joy to see, then the final one with the low E string like a kid at Christmas was awesome the proudness and real sense of achievement just shone through then when it was fully strung and set up boy how it sang it sounds truly wonderful, like really beautiful man, im not sure if the course you took is still available or not but from seeing all of this and hearing you play it at the end was worth every penny invested and same for the rest of the things you bought along the way and you obviously took real notice of the instructional video and soaked it all up, from a dude at the beginning clean shaved and my guess is not much knowledge or experience of building a guitar to now well on the way to becoming a great guitar builder/luthier with an also great beard lol you say thank you so many times for us watching along but im sure i speak for 99% of all who did watch along we thank you even more for taking the time to record edit an upload a truly wonderful video, cant wait to just right into the next
What a great comment. Thanks! I really appreciate you taking the time to type this out. It’s encouraging for me to read it. I’m glad the series provided some kind of value for you. My goal was to show what it looked like for a newbie to jump into guitar building, mistakes and all. This whole project had a huge impact on me. I experienced every emotion and all the highs and lows. Took me 18 months to do it, which is way long, but I’m glad I stuck with it and I have nothing but fond memories thinking back on it. Thanks again. I’m glad you watched the whole thing. That is dedication!
@@CMRWoodworks oh it was a pleasure Chris i loved every minute of it and i will be following everything else you do, im slowly but gradually building my tool set up so i can also build my own acoustic and once i have saved up enough i will also purchase the course you got based on your video, keep building , learning, educating and entertaining your very good at it man
Congratulations Chris, after this exciting and inspiring journey together with you, I lived a very special moment together with you, after hearing the first sounds of your guitar! thank you for sharing this, I really learned a lot already! Chris

Man!!! Great to see the smile on your face as the guitar started making music. You did a great job fighting through all the challenges... The next one will be a PIECE OF CAKE because you now know all the pitfalls. Thank you for the shout out. Its always fun to see our tools out in the wild helping make guitars play better. CONGRATS!!!
Thank you man! Glad to see you stop by again! And thanks for the comment! The sanding beam was great and I‘m sure I‘ll be picking up some more of your tools at some point! See you around!
Congratulations! The guitar and your playing sound great. After 50+ years of playing, I find can live without dot markers on the fretboard, but absolutely must have side markers. Again, well done on completing your first guitar, of hopefully many!
Hey Chris. I’ve watched all 18 videos in the last two days and you’ve inspired me to build a guitar. I want to say Thankyou for sharing your journey. And also it was wonderful that you shared the ups and the downs. You didn’t hide your mistakes or when you weren’t sure what to do. We learn more form mistakes than we do from successes. Kudos to you for seeing it through and ho early she sounds great! Thanks again for your time and effort into putting this together. Great job and co granulations.
Wow that’s awesome man! Thanks for watching the entire thing! I hope that whenever you decide to start building a guitar, that it goes great! Thanks for the comment!!
You should be SO PROUD of yourself for this, Chris! The sound of this guitar is as good as, if not better than, ANY guitar demo I've heard for a long time. It's crazy to think you've gotten such a wonderful instrument out of your FIRST GUITAR BUILD! Seriously, do NOT stop this crazy hobby you've picked up because you are SO good at it. Keep up the great work, man! Seriously looking forward to following along with any other builds you have going or are planning! Addendum: watched the video again and got a closer look at that fretboard binding... it looks so gorgeous. Super complicated step to add to an already difficult process but you nailed it. Addendum 2: sorry I just can't stop watching this video lol. The tone is legitimately better than any guitar I've heard, at least through speakers, to date. I cannot get over the clarity and lushness(?) of the sound. It's rich and complex and has blossoming overtones which, I think, is pretty rare for a new guitar that hasn't had some time to age. Anyway, the bottom line is I can't give you enough congrats on this build. It is legitimately an extraordinary guitar.
Thanks so much for your conments! I really appreciate the time you took out of your day to type them! I was legitimately surprised by the sound of the guitar as well. The reaction I had in the video was a genuine in-the-moment reaction. I just simply could not believe that I pulled it off and that it sounded as good as it did. It started sounding better too after the guitar „opened up“ as people call it. I wish I had recorded measurements for everything. I basically only have my final soundboard thickness recorded, which was actually on the heavy side and I was worried I didn‘t go thin enough when I made it. I‘ll be interested to see how the florentine cutaway guitar I‘m building now comes out. I wonder if I‘ll hear a difference. Anyway, thanks again!!
The vid series was awesome! Very happy for you and the end result. I am more impressed with your humility through the whole process. Sharing the frustrations and difficulties. Many do not share those issues and make it look so easy. That is what made the series enjoyable, because at the end you have a finished product, that looks and sounds great! Thanks!
I like to show the struggles because I like seeing those kinds of videos and think they are more helpful for those trying to learn. Hopefully the videos will come in use for others tackling such a daunting project! Thanks for watching!
Watched from the very start and I enjoyed it the whole way through. Incredibly informative and super excited for you. I look forward to watching whatever you build next! Thank you and congratulations!
Chris - congratulations on finishing your first guitar. It looks and sounds great. Thanks for sharing your journey. It’s been fun to watch. Excited to see your next build!
Thanks for sharing your journey. I watched your ukulele build and this one from start to finish. I've had one of those Stew Mac tenor ukulele kits that I need to get to work on. Once I complete that, I think I'll try Robbie's course on building a ukulele and then maybe the advanced ukulele course. I have too much stuff and not enough space so these would be easier to stash away. Regardless, once I get those done and have more confidence in my abilities, then I'll progress to something larger like your guitar or a classical. I figure I won't be as upset if I have to turn my ukulele creation into firewood if it doesn't cost as much :-). I'll be watching your other series soon, and I'm also subscribed to see what you come up with in the future.
Thanks for watching! The ukulele kit is a nice soft intro into lutherie. The advanced ukulele course looks like it is really good. I‘m sure if you do that one, then building a guitar would be a lot more doable since it‘d be basically the same process just with larger pieces of wood. Good luck whatever you decide to do!
@@CMRWoodworks Thanks for your insights. I agree that if I complete the advanced ukulele course it should transfer to acoustic guitars, maybe even more towards classical guitars. You did a great job, I wonder how did you learn how to brace the top the way it is?
I learned from Robbie O’Brien.
Next time, if you want a good bass response, brace the top a little loose and this is what I learned from Ervin Somogyi.
Are you going to sell that first guitar the sound of which is the best for me as guitar player. ?
