HI Chris, I was just so happy with you, when you married the neck to the body, after I took this journey together with you...thanks and congratulations- what a great inspiration!
I was just gifted a "how to build an acoustic guitar" book by a friend, and I am already totally hooked- Can¨t wait to start maybe in half a year or so- all the best my friend- Chris /Austria
Awesome! I hope all goes well whenever you do get to start!
I really appreciate your willingness to take chances. The modification of the heel joint turned out great. And you kids cameo appearance was great!
Thanks! When they are in the garage it‘s hard to record and not have them in it. I left some of it in for myself mostly so that I‘ll see it years down the road and remember how small they were. My older two kids also have several cameos in my old videos too when they were younger. They usually try not to interrupt nowadays.
I''m a twin. I don't know how lucky my parents were but you seem fortunate enough.
looks a lot better than my first
your journey to the mess is brilliant. kudo's Chris
Thanks man!
for stuff like the heel cap id just use thin super glue. i bandsaw my neck to get the sides level with the fingerboard. i use to use a router. but too much worry of tear out, even if you wet it,. sand it with a straight edge near the end also helps. your lil girls are hilarious loll
I‘m definitely gonna bandsaw the sides closer to the fretboard next time. That took longer than I wanted it to!
Thats beautiful Chris. You've pulled a rabbit out of the hat!
Yes sir, thanks!
Awesome work, Chris. It's always entertaining to watch your videos and the kiddos are so cute!
Thanks so much! Glad you watched!
nice job 👏 thanks for sharing the process
Thanks for watching!
Loved it. Amazing transformation under your skilled hands! It looks awesome!! Thanks for the detailed video.
Thanks so much Charles! Glad you stopped by again! Thanks for the comment too!
and darn i have expensive taste that ebony and rosewood laminate laminate looks really good... i could almost smell it when you first showed sanding it
Looks awesome. I really like the offset rosewood strip in the heel cap. I love when mishaps become something special.
I think it looks pretty cool actually. I was so glad when I saw someone else with that shape. Now that I‘ve seen it I have come across at least two other builders doing the same thing, haha. Thanks Shannon!
Thank you for sharing so much about your journey. I’m hoping to do it myself, and I feel like watching your videos is a huge help and motivator. Your guitar looks amazing so far. Please keep it up.
Thanks so much! Well I hope that if you decide to make one yourself that I have somehow been a little help with all of my yapping in the videos, haha. Glad if I have helped to motivate you! Thanks for watching and commenting!
Great job shaping the neck. I use shinto rasp exclusively to get the bulk off then a half round Iwasaki file to do the transitions.
You should be proud of the achievement to get to this point.
Thanks! I‘ll be looking for a better half round rasp. The one I used worked, but I felt I could probably do better with a rasp more suited for that kind of work. And man, that shinto rasp can remove material crazy fast! Thanks for the comment!
Great man 👌👌! Thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching a commenting!
Hi Chris. I've been watching this build with great interest and have come to the conclusion that you have great patience and very brave. Love your children's interaction on video, as it's so natural. Your guitar is taking shape. Hope you and your family have a great Christmas and a blessed new year. 😊
Thanks so much Steve! Sometimes I can‘t avoid when the kids are around while I‘m recording. I like to leave it in because I‘ll look back on it several years from now and have fond memories of them. Glad you took the time to watch and comment!
Hi Chris. I have been through this process a couple of times but still am very much a beginner. One thing I enjoy about this series is the presentation of the mistakes and the attempts to fix them. It feels very much like what my attempts have been like. Carry on.
Thanks for watching! I felt that I needed to show the mistakes in order to give a clear and true presentation of what it might look like for a newbie to build his first guitar. I feel it shows that even if someone like me can pull this off, then it might give someone the courage to jump in and try it out. Thanks for the comment!
Great job man! It's pretty cool seeing it all together there at the end. And I like what you did with the heel plate. Nice work!
Thanks so much!
I really dig the asymmetric heel!!!
Thanks man. I actually really like it too and I‘m glad I decided to go that direction! Thanks for watching!
First!!! So glad to see this series continue! Wanting to start a first guitar build soon. You are doing an awesome job!
Hey thanks! Good luck with your upcoming build! It‘s quite a journey.
So glad you are back at it. I will be working more on my own guitar build next month. My boyfriend is a master luthier and teaching and helping me. Good luck and keep on going!!!
Thanks. That is nice to be able to learn first-hand from an expert! Awesome stuff! Good luck with your build!
Good job on the neck shaping. If it were me I would have rounded the heel more but it's your guitar and build so build as how you want it to be.
I‘ve actually been pondering that exact thing. I‘ve seen pictures of people with more square corners at the heel and others with more rounded over. I‘m leaning towards more rounding over. I hadn‘t fully decided at the making of the video and I just needed to get the video done, but there is still time to do a little more work at the heel. Thanks for the input!
@@CMRWoodworks Chris I think in my opinion you'll like it in the end. Oh and love the kids. They're no worry here.
Good job👍
Thanks!
@@CMRWoodworks I like your work very nice and creative
Great job, it’s looking good. I do that same style heel on my necks, here’s a little tip put some duct tape on the back of your sandpaper when your using it for flossing the neck to body joint & sanding your neck, the duct tape strengthens the sandpaper so it doesn’t tear. God Bless🙏🎸🎼🎹🇺🇸🇺🇸👨🏻🦯👨🏻🦯
Oh man, what a great tip! Totally doing that next time! Thanks Scott!
That's a great tip Scott.
the chip in the ebony, use ebony dust and ca glue
Thanks for the tip! In my mind I was thinking that black super glue would be a darker black than the west african ebony on the guitar, but your tip is great. Didn‘t think about that. Thanks!
Just reviewing this again Chris, which spokeshave did you buy for this? Is it the Veritas flat?
Yes, that is the one! I got that one because I already have veritas planes and I have wanted it for years and plan on making much more than a few guitars.
They absolutely make heirloom quality tools!
Indeed. I love the ones I have!
