The man in the video was a famous actor Donald Sutherland. Kate Bush was meant to be portraying his son. It was actually based on a true story the video. There was a guy who invented a cloud busting machine he ended up going to jail and tragically died in prison, so his son wrote a book about it, and Kate decided to turn it into a video! that's why I love her so much -I couldn't imagine the likes of Ariana or Cardi doing that these days no offence lol 😅
Hmmm since you said her style is comfort music to hear in the background I’m really tempted to throw you on the other way completely. She’s actually one of the artists that in my opinion is so broad in style. She can scare you, make you cry, laugh. You can check out her song Get out of my house for example, totally different. I’d also recommend Violin or waking the witch (from this same album) just to get a glimpse of her range in styles.
Slight clarifications 📍"Get Out Of My House" is from "The Dreaming" 📍Volin is from "Never For Ever" 📍"Waking The Witch" is from the 2nd side of "Houbds Of Love" entitled "The Ninth Wave" which starts with "And Dream Of Sheep" I'm going to a few of my own suggestions as well: 📍"The Wedding List" from "Never For Ever" 📍Breathing from "Never For Ever" 📍"Pull Out The Pin" from "The Dreaming" 📍"Leave It Open" from "The Dreaming" 📍"The Dreaming" from "The Dreaming "
This song was based on a true story that took place in the early 1940s about Dr. Wilhelm Reich and his son. Reich had been exploring ways of reversing the ionic charge in the atmosphere because he believed that a subtle form of radiation was caused by a buildup of heavy ions. He actually built a machine much like the one in the video and blasted the sky with negative ions, causing rainfall and a breakup of overcast skies. He also believed that UFO sightings of strange lights and vessels flashing around were also a result of this ionic friction. He was arrested by the 'men in black' and his files were seized and remained classified for over 50 years. He died in prison a few years later. His son Peter wrote a book about his experiences with his father. Peter was 9 or 10 yrs old at the time and his accounts of what happened are astonishing. He and his dad on the cloudbusting machine shooting at aliens and flashing lights, making them vanish, radioactive glowing yoyos and pocketwatches... I think Kate did a fantastic job of dramatizing tbe story in this video. it IS like a mini-mďovie and should be viewed as such. At the time no-one else had done anything like it..One of many Kate masterpieces. Agree with your comments and reaction. The video is not one of my favorites but the music is top notch and I love it. If you want to hear one of the finest songs ever written please listen to “Moments of Pleasure”.
Late Bush had her own style, very difficult to categorise. Certainly not all her music was comforting, quite the opposite. But you can only base your opinion on what you have heard and know. She did everything from pop to totally experimental and was quite a pioneer and influence on many modern artists.

I'd suggest the live performance of "The Wedding List" at The Prince's Trust Concert
