Yes. It is devalue first, which can take as long as he wants as long as he is getting something from the relationship. When she is of no use to him anymore, he will discard. I should point out that discard doesn't mean he kicks them out, it's more of an emotional discard. The ladies then decide if they want to be martyrs and stay for more pain or if they leave and know they deserve better. It takes a lot of courage to leave because the narcissist is skilled at making the other person think it is all their fault. Discard stage can take years also. Classic narcissist move.
Interview Meri was wonderful in this episode! But episode Meri was also great with the deadpan expression when Kody said that, yes he had tried to call his sons. She totally didn’t believe him😂

Ironic because this was the first episode (and I’ve watched since the beginning) that I cried! I teared up when Janelle was left realizing she’s not good financially for a divorce. I could feel how scared she felt.

Another spot where it looks like TLC might be trolling Kody and Robyn is the scene where Robyn mentions that she knew she couldn't rely on Kody to assist with the kids so that is why she always had a nanny. And, the photo TLC used had Mykelti in the background. Brilliant.
Exactly she gets a nanny I have 4 kids one is disabled with a wheel chair, one is severely autistic an my newborn has club feet so many weekly trips for casts and I have NO one no family nada, but she can’t handle her healthy kids?! I am just disgusted by these people , money clearly is why she came an fame, not a doubt in my mind now after watching since the show aired years ago
If Robyn could not rely on Kody & needed a nanny, why did Robyn require Kody to tuck the kids into bed each night? She is claiming opposites.
There is no way he went straight to Meri's house. It was so obvious it was set up to spin the whole story. Robyn acting like she didn't already know the whole story was laughable! They're both horrible people.
Meri should invite anyone in the family to her Xmas Eve gathering . But for the hope of love from Kody. She did not. Meri has a dull time at Xmas. Let's hope now in 2023 she can have good times with all the OG-13 children. And the NK-5 children. And all the new babys grandchildren too come. Meri isn't perfect . But deserves happiness too.

Anger is a secondary emotion which stems from fear or sadness. Kody wants to just be married to Robyn. Janelle was on point that he makes the relationship unbearable until they leave so the break-up is on them, and he's the "victim"", not responsible. He does similar with his kids. Rather than being a parent and calling his kids to fix the relationship, he avoids them and blames them and Janelle and Christine. Robyn takes money from the family for a nanny when she only has 2 minor children, while Christine raised 13 every day with no help. Robyn sucks as a mother.
Christine wanted to watch Robyn's kids. Why did she need a nanny? To me this puts the failed integration of Robyns children squarely on Robyn.
Ariella is still using a pacifier at 7 years old. (Not a sign of great parenting)
@@lindabecconsall6317 Pacifiers were made for the sucking reflex, which ends at 4 months old. They decrease the odds of SIDS until 6 months old so often used that extra 2 months. After age 6 months, it's just lazy parenting.

What I loved is that Janelle was so upset after the fight it took her a whole 30 minutes to calm down and call him and told him to get his stuff. 30 whole minutes!😊

The two best parts of this episode, Janelle telling Noodle hair to EFF OFF then Christine saying that Garrison was her son, but biologically but still her son. ❤
My husband and I were watching the episode at the part where Robin and Mary were talking with kody. My husband commented it looks like Robin has lost control of kody. I thought about past episodes and comment Robin has made and I think he's right. She's lost control of the monster she created.

The most ironic thing in this whole situation is that Kody was adamant that he wanted his wives to have the type of relationship that would continue if he were no longer in the picture because of the children, and now he is absolutely furious that Kristine and Janelle have done exactly that.
Right?! I actually admired Kody during that episode for being so selfless about that big picture. But now I think he was just doing it for show.

He uses words like “loyalty”, “supportive”, “patriarchy”, & “respect”.
What he MEANS IS:
Loyalty = total submission & subservience with joy, never challenge or ask questions.
Supportive= Make excuses for Cody to all the kids and the public when he screws up. Never let anyone know if he hurts anyone.
Patriarchy = Proud peacock and sperm-donor. Has nothing to do with providing for, protecting & listening to wives.
Respect= praise him, massage his ego, flatter him, reject all people he has conflict with. If he shuns them, you must too. You cannot be neutral, you MUST take his side.

I think Kody knew he would film inside with Janelle and wore that flimsy coat then left went home to debrief Robyn. He knew after they would go see Meri outside so he put on a better coat. Robyn clearly knew about the argument and since Janelle told him to get his stuff 30 minutes post conversation Robyn knew about that as well. The conversation with Meri was so awkward because Kody and Robyn were hiding the fact that Janelle had already told Kody to get his stuff out her house. They didn’t want Meri to know that. They were way too nice to Meri and calm. He never cares what Meri wants or thinks but now he really wants her opinion.

I agree Anger is secondary. Years ago I heard the roots of anger and it rang so true to me that I wrote it down. Hurt, Fear, Frustration and Injustice.
Kody not willing to call his sons is tragic. Loosing relationships with your sons is not worth it.
He won’t manipulate grown men. He’s a coward. He knows those boys are ready for him. He won’t be able to gaslight them.
Unfortunately, a narcissist never sees themselves as being wrong and he will continue to feel victimized until his deathbed. That is a sad reality for families with narcissistic parents. The only way the children will heal and become mentally healthy is to cut off contact with the narcissist.

Kody's lies in this one were so blatant! He called Janelle a liar, while not only lying to her, but he lied straight out to Mary when she asked if he tried reaching out to the boys, and again when he claimed Christine asked for help Robyn never received, right before Robyn came on justifying the nanny 😂 its terrible and hilarious all at the same time! Kody quit regularly visiting Meri’s home and stopped intimacy before she got involved with the catfishing. She was looking for companionship online because Kody had a abandoned her. I don’t remember them ever saying why he abandoned Meri.

I just adore your recaps and this one was exceptional - thank you so much for having this space for us to dish on this crazy show. Christine is the heart of this family. Janelle is the backbone. I've been watching this show since it began (I have now moved abroad since watching this show and I still find ways to stream it in another country, lol). He is doing the silent divorce deal - ice out the wife until she eventually leaves.
YES. Christine and Janelle kept the family going. It makes sense - they have the most kids together, and I can see Kody feeling it's on the moms to handle. And Meri worked to be involved. Robyn? Has done nothing. Except create rifts and division.

I loved when Merri said its either Merri's house or its Robin and Cody's house, notice the difference. Even she admits that Cody is only with Robin that's why it's their house together and the other homes are called Merri's house or Janelle's house. Come on Merri get out of their fast!
If I were Meri, I’d go be with Janelle and Christine for Christmas Eve, even though she’s not part of the Janelle/Christine friendship group, and have a more happy time, than the contrived awfulness of Robyn/Kody craziness.
At this point in time I think Meri is hoping that if she follows all Kody’s rules and acts loyal he might come back to her if he loses both Christine and Janelle. After Christmas is when it finally dawns on her that no matter what she does Kody will never want her. I’m glad she finally woke up!

The conversation that he wants to have with the boys would be just as much of a trainwreck as the conversation that he just had with their mom. The friend, Nate, officiated Aspen’s wedding. At that time, Kody tried to simply introduce him as his best friend but Meri cut in to say Nate is her brother in law, and that’s how Kody met him. No mention if that this time. I can’t help but wonder if the wife who left him is Meri’s sister.

So glad Janelle finally stood up for herself & is done. No one ever says to Kody that he is not being accountable & I wish she had. When he announced to Janelle, he wasn't going to see her or the kids for xmas, basically saying "nope not going to make the effort" it is not only punitive. Kody is too much of a coward to face his boys. They are even more angry than Janelle. Saying he only wants to be around people who like being around him says everything about him.

Christine carried the kids, meals, family functions, and holidays. Janelle brought in the most money. Kody carried nothing but his ego and attitude. I think Robyn and Kody used SS Closet as a way to siphon money. There was never any action to justify losing a lot of money. Forming an LLC and filing for business licenses would eat up maybe $3000. They did not have an outside office or warehouse for storage, and no employees. Where did the money go?
He's lost all sense of decency and any ability to be a good father to his children who aren't Robyn’s. People don't respect you when you aren't worthy of respect. He's too delusional to see that *he* and his precious one made this mess. He makes me absolutely sick.
100%, and I’m guessing as Robyn’s kids get older and start to assert their independence he’s going to have issues with them too. He’s the kind of person who loves their kids when they’re little and will do whatever he says, but when they become adults with their own lives and opinions he can’t handle it.
I think that Janell want to look to Kody for guidance she was a true believer in the faith. But Kody wasn't there to help her. So she did what was best for her children. By doing things on her own. She is correct to side with the sons.

Meri was very manipulative and toxic to the other wives and kids in early episodes. Hurt people, hurt people... I am happy to see her FINALLY acting a little more emotionally mature. I agree I like interview Meri. I want to see her fully succeed in leaving Kody and toxic behaviors behind. I am also over the moon that Janelle got as mad as she did and called Kody out on his behavior in the moment. Yes! Yes! More of this please! I want to know for certain that she got some of her money back from him before we end this season. I want to see her happy. I hope next season is about the wives and kids and grandkids.
Also, the way that Kody was taunting Janelle as he was walking out the door totally made me think of Ariella when she was telling Christine to have more dates. He’s literally acting like a 5 year old. How he thought that made him look tough, I’ll never know. Has anyone else noticed how small Kody looks now? When he was sitting on that couch when the guys, he looked tiny. He can’t be atlas holding up the earth with those skinny legs. Losing Christine’s meals really seems to have effected him. I don’t think Robyn is much of a cook.
So much going on in this episode. Kody with his friends was just PR and him trying to get out in front of the situation and make himself look good. When he said that line about being Atlas carrying the family, I laughed out loud. You can't carry something you aren't part of because you're never there. He blames Janelle for not going along with him, but she's right. It's his responsibility to maintain his relationships, not hers. I agree, I thought he was absolutely lying about calling them. His inflection went up and he said, "I reached out to them" when he was specifically asked, "Did you call them?". That scene with Meri and them basically manipulating her into not having her Christmas Eve party was gross. I don't think it would have gone well if she tried, but it was pretty clear she was expected not to. The only reason he feels shame about Christine leaving is because she actively left rather than having him leave her in all but name and waiting around like Meri has. He doesn't feel shame for his actions or mistreatment of her, just his loss of face. The stuff with the kids is gross. I see it a lot in my own family. My mother has several sisters and the children (my generation) are often mixed up and used as extensions of their issues. It's just a gross, emotionally immature thing to do.
What these nitpicking commenters don't get is that comedy is free flowing. Better you express yourselves in your own time and order and get all those gems from John. Just saying. You guys are great. Don't change a thing.🙂

When Big Edie and Little Edie from the crazy documentary Grey Gardens saw the finished product, they thought their dilapidated mansion looked wonderful. They loved how they appeared in the documentary. All while the rest of the world’s mouths dropped.
John was on top of it in this one. He just cracks me up.
I never understood what the hell Robyn meant about “I always knew Kody couldn’t help with the kids so that’s why I had a nanny”? I thought the whole point of him having so many wives and children was because “the family” was his whole life? The “big picture” and “family” were priorities 1-100 for a polygamist man, that’s what they told us! What else was he busy doing if not being with his kids and wives, Robyn?
First timer here throwing this out… maybe they rarely film in Robyn’s house because we’ll see all that expensive artwork! And collectible figurines! She’s quite the spender. Wow!

I wasn't impressed with the episode.
Kody is such a liar. He tells Janelle that he hasn't called the boys, but is justified because they haven't called him. Then, he tells Robyn and Meri that he did call the boys, but they didn't answer. Poor Savannah becomes collateral damage because Kody wants to punish Janelle and the boys.

That’s what happened to Gwen, Ysabel and Truely. He stopped communicating with them because he was mad at their mother. That’s the sign of a mature caring father when he has nothing to do with his kids because their mommies and meanies. 🙄

Kody said the boys brought Covid to Janelle's house but didn't acknowledge that The Nanny brought it to his and Robyn's house. grrrrr
You have to remember though Bonnie, Meri's mom, was VERY pro-polygamy and probably would have expected Meri to be with the Brown family. I think that's why Meri never round it within her to leave the way Christine did and just accepted where Kody wanted to place her within the family.
You she wouldn’t have had the support from her other family.

I wouldn’t be surprised that Kody made a deal with TLC to keep the cameras rolling. It’s about being center of attention rather then money. Now he is blaming the cameras about breaking up the marriages. Honestly I feel that the cameras made them last longer.
Robyn gets the big house. Janelle a tiny apartment or trailed. And Kody says she has as much as he has? He looks down on the nightstand, trailer, shower and tree….
