I wanted to share something amazing. I got to sit with Steve Vai last night for a bit, after he played at the Malibu Guitar Festival. I'm so glad I went- I wasn't going to, but I made myself go. He was so kind. This is a guy that I have looked up to since I was 12 years old, he's kind of a beacon of light in this business- in music- how to live your life as a creative person and be successful.. he should write a book. Anyways, he sat with me and told me he knew I was close with Chris, and said "you know, you can still have a relationship with him- when you think of him, just try and smile.. it's too soon now, but as soon as you can, try and smile when you think of him, because it will automatically make you think of good memories, the good times with him". I really needed to hear that last night and it's such great wisdom. And I think we should all try and do that. Thank you Steve Vai from the bottom of my heart.
Wise words from Steve Vai. Thank you for sharing your story. Chris Cornell was a voice of my generation. It is truly a terrible loss :( I am sorry you lost your friend Sir. God Bless.
I don't know Mr. Vai, but judging from his always thoughtful responses during interviews etc. I'm not surprised one bit that he would be a real voice of reason. I am incredibly sorry for your personal loss. Anyone who grew up with Chris's music had a special bond to his words. You had a far greater bond with him. Be glad you were lucky. There are 7.2 Billion people on Earth, and you were one of the lucky few who got to say they knew him. When you're ready, smile about that.
Pete Thorn, I'm blown away...I have no words that will make the pain go away...this story of Vai gave me goosebumps... the love musicians have for eachother and for our craft is just amazing.... thank you for letting us into your life... and for sharing your experiences...it just confirms to me...we are one big family. 🎸
Pete is amazing guitar player, genuinely humble and talented. This is a beautiful tribute to one of the world's last great Rock singers! Thanks for sharing Pete!
I wasn't expecting you, Warren, to react to this video, but I'm glad you did.. Also grateful; that Pete shared all of this with us... RIP Chris, wherever you are, I hope it's better... Apologies, still a bit shaken...
Hi Steve A I've been a fan of Pete's for years. He's one of the most respected guitar players in the world. He and Tim Pierce are the bench marks for what professional musicians should be! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
Pete, I wasn't a huge fan but that's not important. I really appreciated what you did here. Personal relationships and stories are far more important to convey then all the tabloid garbage you normally get when something like this happens. How he touched you and his impact on your life was great to hear. We all have a purpose in life. Thank you for sharing these stories! : )
I clicked this video thinking "I'll just watch a couple of minutes then I'll go bed". Here I am, 37 minutes later. Thanks for opening your heart like you did Pete. This is a beautiful video and tribute to Chris.
Juan Martin Germano I went up to the gas station at about 10 minutes in to get some combos and a couple Heinekens to watch the rest of this. now I'm buzzing about to spend the rest of my night remembering Chris. I'm supposed to be on a diet too but fuck it
I lost my son last year, and I can say that this was the best thing you could have done; to share your stories about him. He should not be defined by how he died, but by how he lived. And he gave us so much.
Wow. Thank you SO much for sharing this. My first time viewing this and am speechless. You are such a good person and friend. Again thank you. Very nice of you.
CIRCLE OF TONE Your friend for guitar tone Me too. My condolences Pete, you've lost a friend & the world has lost an amazing talent & all around good person.
You are the only friend that spoke about Chris this way. As a fan I appreciate your heartfelt willingness to share these moments with us. Chris is forever in our hearts.
Hey thanks Christine. This was a spur of the moment in shock kind of video that I made that morning. I just needed to talk about it and I guess I feel comfortable talking this way. Which is bizarre because largely you’re talking to strangers on the Internet, but I’ve grown comfortable with it. Chris was a special dude, and I think about and miss him every day.
mathew was here - Exactly my experience, man! It is quite strange, that my Daddy passed away exactly year before Chris, so yesterday was very very hard day for me. BUT! Through emotions, sharing them, talkin' about them, even I go to my awesome psychologist, some cool therapies, this is my way. It is very sad, that many people just hide their inner fears and sadness. I wish to all of us pure souls, pure emotions, cuz when we ar pure before us, then we can go to the next doors. I composed song about my father called Angel and I'm so happy, that Pete is here and he talk about everything also. RIP Chris! Man with beautiful soul! :)
Few of us out here will likely ever get a chance to know you in "real" life Pete, but despite that, I do think most of us are here on your channel because we love what you do, how you do it and also because we sense you're just a quality human being. Absolutely the right thing to share your memories of Chris - how privileged we all are to hear such great, personal stories about such an amazing musical presence. Thank you for sharing them Pete. RIP Chris - tragically, like so many others, gone far, far too soon but assuredly will not easily be forgotten. Sincere condolences Pete - we all are here for you...all 84+ thousand of us.
My girlfriend of the past 18 years passed away a few weeks ago following a 2-1/2 year long battle with cancer. Just wish I could talk with her one more time. I know you feel the same about Chris. Hard to believe when someone just disappears like... forever. You did good in sharing and honoring his big heart with your memories. I can't speak for Chris's family but I would suspect they would greatly enjoy sitting with you and reminiscing... when the time is right. It heals the heart. Stay strong friend. Gone, but not forgotten.
Keith Murray I don't know you personally but I am really sorry to hear this Keith. I couldn't imagine losing my wife, my thoughts are with you. also RIP Chris, sorry for your loss PT
I'm really sorry to hear that Keith, I lost my Dad to Brain Cancer (Glioblastoma Multiforme) in 2016 and I'm still very much not myself. Remember the good times and try to not get too caught up in the sadness. Hard to imagine and a little cliche I know but it's about the only thing you can do.
Thanks Dee-Bee, as I just told Joel, we don't get to pick the cards we're dealt. Agreed, I do what I can to focus on the good memories. Losing a loved one just sucks. I feel PT's pain.. there's a hole left behind when someone passes. Only time can heal some wounds.
Thank you for sharing your stories. I never had the opportunity to meet him or see him live, but I am grateful to always hear anything about him. He was one special guy and I will always respect and love him. Forever missed 💔
I'm glad you had this wonderful chance and experience with the best rock singer in the world. Thanks for sharing with us. We wait for you in Italy again. Next time you come here you have to sign a Suhr Pete Thorn I'm about to buy. :)
Beautiful tribute from Pete Thorn, a great friend of Chris Cornell's and an amazing musician. Love you Pete Thorn, for this, and all you do to help us in our pursuit of tonal knowledge. How anyone gives this a thumbs down, thankfully, is beyond me. Peace Out.
Thanks for sharing Pete. I bet one of the things Chris liked about you is your genuineness. Carry the torch and keep making great music. Sorry about your loss.
Thank you for sharing these great stories. The world lost one of the most beautiful voices of all time. He will always be remembered. Greetings from Brazil.
This was so incredible to hear. I've been at such a loss since yesterday. I've lost a couple of very close family members the same (almost eerily) exact way, and struggled with suicidality almost my entire life. Naturally with that history, anyone would be upset over this news. But loving so much of Chris's art, this cut deep. I have never cried so much or physically felt so grief stricken over someone I didn't know personally. But this video... gave me a smile, and only reassured how grounded and genuine of an artist he was. I partied hard and jammed -almost- too hard at a stuffy concert hall venue this past summer. A part of me was almost embarrassed that I loved so much of that show- but now my only regrets are not showing love more and not seeing a show where you played, too. Thanks so much for sharing such intimate moments, and I so wish I could give you a hug. Healing vibes sent your way. Thanks so much for being vulnerable and sharing so much love to the giant community that loved Chris for everything he was.
Thanks Pete. He was a huge influence for me. I'm not a successful musician, but the music and vocals I write are heavily influenced by him. I'm going to miss his new music.
Thank you Pete, for sharing something that deeply personal. We can all benefit from knowing a little more about the life and times of Chris from. His true friends.
I saw you guys play in Toronto twice. Front row. Both were epic performances. Thanks for sharing your stories. That picture of you in the badmotorffinger shirt and Chris screaming above you is amazing. You were lucky to have known him so closely as a friend.
Hi Pete I've watched all your video's and comment almost never on any social site ...this was very awesome and giving of yourself in bringing us closer to you and your experiences with Chris I can only say condolences to you well done and thank you
Wow...totally speechless. Thank you so much for sharing those stories Pete. I think it's a true honor to Chris, to share how awesome of a person he really was.
Peter, talking to us like you do is a good way to remember him and keeping him alive in your heart and mind. It is difficult to process this news, after all we are just human beings. I admire you because you are not a fucking guitar diva, you are a humble guy that knows what does it takes to get where you are. I just loved your Chris stories. hugs for you from Mexico city.
Much love to you Pete, you're a standup guy yourself and a great musician also. Chris was phenomenally talented, so take solace in the fact you were in that category of musician to be able to play with him. He was the vocal soundtrack for my life from a 14-year-old boy to the 35-year-old man I am now, and although I didn't have the pleasure of knowing him personally like yourself, he was omnipresent in my life through music and I kinda grew up with him always there in that respect, and the sadness I have felt the last week is proof you don't have to know someone personally to care about them, especially when they influence your life in such a positive way. All the best to you Pete and keep on rockin, 'Be Yourself, It's All That You Can Do'. ...Rest In Peace, Chris.
Pete, Thankyou for this upload. It must have been really difficult to do this video, but you must know it is so much appreciated. By everyone.. As we're all in shock, I think the world is grieving together... Chris influenced a whole generation with his music and soul, but not only that, he was definitely one of the all-time greats... Sadly another legend and pure, honest talent that will be sorely missed.. Our thoughts are with you mate - Take care.
I’ve been missing him a lot lately. I was lucky enough to see you all play in Detroit in 2007. I was fortunate enough to sit through the sound check and attend the meet and greet after the show. You all meshed so well together. ♥️
thanks for sharing those memories Pete, saw you with him in Chile. All of you blew me away, thanks for the music and Chris will always be remembered :(
Thank you for posting this! My deepest condolences for the loss of your friend. His music meant so much to so many of us, but I can only imagine how much his friendship meant to you.
Pete there is never a wrong or right thing to do in these circumstances, but you have to let it out. You just did that, heartfelt , honest and personal, thank you for sharing.
Thank you for sharing Pete, my thoughts are with you, his friends and his family. Still trying to process the loss, he really was one of a kind, such a voice and from what you've said a truly beautiful soul.
Great to hear your thoughts and experiences with Chris. I was watching various tributes to Chris and came across yours. Initially, I was going to skip through sections of it, but I found myself watching the entire 37 minutes and wishing it was longer. I admire people with musical talent and it's so sad when their lives are cut short. Thanks for sharing. Sorry for the loss of your friend.
Thanks for sharing. We love Chris. I wish there was a memorial for fans that aren't in Seattle and have to travel. All of the fans need to get together and share our appreciation for his music.
Pete, thank you so much for sharing these stories. I can see how your experiences with Chris have shaped who you are. A few years ago I had a chance to do some work locally demoing some guitars for a guy who had a vintage guitar store. I tracked down your email for some advice about how much to charge and a few other things. At the time I had an attitude of "I've got nothing to lose...emailing Pete Thorn." And you emailed me back the same day. That blew me away. And to top it off, you gave me some really great advice and insight...because that's the kind of guy YOU are. You and Chris's family are in my prayers. Everyone here can, to some degree, understand that you will need time to grieve this. Take your time. Keeping talking to other friends and musicians about Chris. Thanks for helping us know Chris a little bit better, and to get a chance to smile or laugh at some of those great memories. We needed it too. Peace.
scottrrand37 hello everyone.Such a tragic loss.Just got done watching the performance at fox theater.Chris did not seem righr. The video i saw at 2 minutes into it chris looked right at the guys camera and it was spooky it was like his eyes were like yeay buddy glad you got that camera glad your catching my last performance it was black hole sun spooky god speed everyone.Thank you for the stories pete god bless u sir.
A poignant, moving, eloquent and loving tribute to a creative genius and, as Pete so powerfully conveys, an amazing human being. Thanks for posting it.
U guys are amazing, his fans were amazing, I'm just a fan too and we all got to be a part of the guy's creative genious for a little while and for that I'm thankful.
God Bless you Pete, and my condolences to you. Sorry for your and our loss, and glad you got to get your feelings out. The same happened to me when Allan Holdsworth passed away, and talking and chatting as you are doing (I haven't finished your video yet) is something you needed to do from deep in your heart. Time heals they say, it's just not that as easy to do as other say. Take care my friend. I'm sure you feel like me in a sense that a part of you died also in the moment. Keep strong, and remember all the good stuff.
Thanks for sharing this Pete. On top of hopefully being therapeutic for you, the personal stories are a way of paying forward his kindness to the rest of us in addition to all the incredible music he left behind.
Thank you for sharing this Pete. In my opinion, Chris was the best rock singer of my generation and I know that he’s singing up there with all of his friends that he loved and missed so much. Soundgarden is the best driving music - ever.
That era of Chris Cornell and your band was the most amazing era. I saw him in Soundgarden twice before they split. Was amazing. Saw him with Audioslave. Amazing. With you guys, his solo band, I saw you guys a few times, every time was Awesome and he seemed really happy and you guys were always on point. I know many will disagree but to me that was the best I ever witnessed. It was the best of Cornell, from Soundgarden, Audioslave, and solo material, and you guys made it amazing. Thank you.
Thank u Bill, I have so much respect for SG and for the Audioslave guys, as well as Alain and everyone involved in creating Euphoria Morning and his catalog of solo material, we really just tried to do our best to play the songs that those guys created, as well as we could, so Chris could present music from his whole career. It was an honor to play the music.
I cried when I heard it on kroq Thursday morning. my 1st thought was "not another one!"😭 hearing that he took his own life made my heart hurt💔 I didn't know Chris but I can imagine for his friends and family it's devastating.
Thank you Pete for sharing all of your personal Memories with Chris, the World was a better place for having an amazing talented Singer/Musician,he may be gone, but he will most definitely Never be forgotten,my heart goes out to his Wife/Kids,Family/Friends & his many many Fans,RIP Chris Cornell 💔😢
Hey Pete - That was one of the most raw and genuine things I have ever heard anyone say / do in a situation like this. Its so obvious that Chris touched your life on such a deep level, and personally I feel privileged to have been able to sit and listen to you speaking about Chris this last half hour. Keep doing what you are doing and thank you for sharing. Cheers Chad
Thank you for sharing your beautiful memories with us, Pete. He has always been a favourite of mine. I was on a tour bus heading towards Houston when I heard the news. I still don't believe it. I hope you smile when you remember him soon. All the best, Kasper
I think in a day and age where everyone seems cynical or can be rude, it was brave of you to share your intimate thoughts. It will be these stories that help add to the beauty that was Cornell. Chris did this for the life of Andrew Wood and now you are doing it for Chris. You had a rare experience with Chris most of us could only dream about.. and you shared it. This video is the best tribute to Chris I have come across. Thank you for sharing yourself and being so candid. Mad respect to and for you. Rest in peace, Chris.
Thanks man. I know what you mean, the world can be so cynical these days, it's just overwhelming. And people say things from behind a keyboard they'd never say to someone's face, which is sad. But I believe most people out there, by far, are good people! Chris was a great guy with a big heart and he treated everyone with respect, which was always really heartwarming to see. there was a guy on our crew for awhile that was a 'survivalist' type guy- stockpiling ammo and supplies in the woods for some coming apocalypse he believed was inevitable- preparing a fortress to escape to. Chris told me, "if that happened, wouldn't you want to stay behind and help old people, and sick people?" Yup. he was like that.
Pete, I hope you keep sharing these unique stories that no one of us will ever be able to experience. I have been digging and downloading several live outakes of Chris (and you!) performing songs from his Scream album which... to me is my favorite album. It really shows a side of him musically I had never seen. I was never a huge Soundgarden fan and that is just me being honest. I was hugely into Mother Love Bone and Alice in Chains. Somehow when I was going thru my divorce his Scream album just spoke volumes to me. And Im not a new fan of Chris'. Ive known about him since early days of Soundgarden and Temple of the Dog. Im 45 and as much as I dont want to admit this Ive been selective over what songs of his blew me away. It was hit or miss but somehow with him being gone now each song takes on new meaning for me. For some odd reason. i am rediscovering Soundgarden and even some odd Audioslave stuff that is now hitting me differently yet positively. Thanks for sharing another story of Chris bc it gives me the though that he saw a much bigger picture and his heart seemed huge. i only saw him live once and it was in Des Moines, IA during his solo tour. i have since seen a ton of live Scream outakes and have to say man, you play the guitar fantastically and its a real honor to share thoughts with ya. I hope during this time of loss you realize you are being thought of. Please take care.
Thank you for talking to us. Letting us sit back like we're around the campfire or dinner table to listen to a person share about a man who meant so much to all of us.
I feel my life is better for hearing these thoughts and stories... THANK YOU for sharing Pete. treasure that time you spent with this awesome man. CHEERS! =)
Thank you Pete for sharing these beautifully personal stories. Chris Cornell was a 1 of a kind singer, songwriter & musician. Saw him solo in 2013 at Uptown Theatre in Napa, Ca. What an amazing night! It was a small venue & he was so kind, funny, playful & very sharing of personal experiences with the audience. I shared that evening with my sister & it's a night we'll remember forever... Thank you Pete for sharing...

Sometimes "FUCK IT" must be declared, and this is one of those times indeed. Ben and Jerry's it is...
Same, couldn't stop watching:-)......
I just did the same thing...I had to watch the whole thing. It was pure and real.
Thank you for sharing your memories. This means a lot to so many of us.
I lost my son last year, and I can say that this was the best thing you could have done; to share your stories about him.
He should not be defined by how he died, but by how he lived. And he gave us so much.

Quite possibly the best video I have ever watched on UA-cam. Thank you for this.
+M B thank you so much. It was hard to make and good to make at the same time- therapeutic
You're an amazing friend to Chris and your honesty moves me. That was a rare display of honesty and a fitting tribute.

Certainly comforting to hear your words again.
Thanks for opening up Pete, Chris will surely be missed, what a voice...

I am sorry for your loss. I cried today when I found out I still can't believe it.

Tragic loss. Who the hell would thumbs down this?
my thoughts exactly!
I'm sure some might have been smart phone accidents or 3 year olds picking up dads phone. You never know.
Thank you for sharing the photos & memories. I really enjoyed this
beautiful.
thank you for taking the time - big heart!
Such a beautiful tribute to your friend and band mate. Thank you for helping us know him and you better. Condolences to you, his family and his fans.

Thank you for sharing these great stories. The world lost one of the most beautiful voices of all time. He will always be remembered. Greetings from Brazil.
I hope this made you feel a little better Pete, because it made me feel a little better. Such a beautiful voice.
You are wonderful! Thank You for sharing!
Thanks for sharing. He was one of my favorite singer/songwriter's of all time. My condolences
And truly, fuck the 66 people that gave this a thumbs down. A kagillion thumbs up, and a kagillion hugs to your sweet soul.
+Meg Fisher thank u Meg and I'm really happy if I could help even just a bit
Thanks Pete. He was a huge influence for me. I'm not a successful musician, but the music and vocals I write are heavily influenced by him. I'm going to miss his new music.
Thank you for sharing Pete.
Sorry for your loss. Made me choke up a little.
I hate this. :(
Thank you Pete, for sharing something that deeply personal.
Sorry for your loss and thank you so much for sharing.
Still come back to this Pete. He always seemed like a hidden person. It’s nice to hear these stories of your friendship with him. Cheers 🍻
Thanks for the stories.
Hi Pete I've watched all your video's and comment almost never on any social site ...this was very awesome and giving of yourself in bringing us closer to you and your experiences with Chris I can only say condolences to you well done and thank you
+BlackheathBand thank you!
Wow...totally speechless. Thank you so much for sharing those stories Pete. I think it's a true honor to Chris, to share how awesome of a person he really was.
Thank you for opening up your heart and sharing your stories, your grief and your love for your dear brother Chris. Respect.
I've watched this video several times since you first posted it, and I am yet again grateful for you uploading it.
Thanks for sharing your memories.
Beautiful video, I didn't want it to end. Just for a bit it seemed like nothing awful had happened and he was still with us.
Thank you for telling those great stories about him .. We all feel your pain and going to miss him very much..
Lovely to hear you share your memories Pete. ❤️
I "met" you today. I'm so glad you shared these stories.

Thank you for sharing your stories of Chris. I enjoyed them very much. He will be sorely missed.
Pete there is never a wrong or right thing to do in these circumstances, but you have to let it out. You just did that, heartfelt , honest and personal, thank you for sharing.
Thank you for sharing a little of what Chris was like off the stage. It really paints a picture. He will be missed.

Thank you for sharing Pete, my thoughts are with you, his friends and his family. Still trying to process the loss, he really was one of a kind, such a voice and from what you've said a truly beautiful soul.
Thank you, Pete. It's a special gift for Chris' fans to hear about him like this.
I watched this again today, and I watch it probably every couple weeks. Thank you, Pete.
Thank you. Meant a lot to hear those stories and experiences.
Peace.

scottrrand37 dude, so awesome. Chris was incredible. More incredible, that he helped shape fellow artists with the same humility he had.
Thanks Pete for your stories. Sorry for your loss. Chris Cornell was the LAST of the GREAT ones of my generation !!! So sad
I can't thank you enough for sharing this with us.Thank you, thank you, thank you. My best wishes to you, and my heartfelt sympathies for your pain.
A poignant, moving, eloquent and loving tribute to a creative genius and, as Pete so powerfully conveys, an amazing human being. Thanks for posting it.
So sorry for your loss PT
This is amazing, thank you for posting this up and sharing your times/stories with Chris.
Thank you so much Mr. Thorn. It is amazing to listen these beautiful stories and emotions.
I held it together until 16:30. Great video Pete, hoping to see you if you make it out to Edmonton.
Sorry for your loss Pete. We are all in shock and mourning . Loved his talent!
Thank you. As a long time lover of all of Chris's work these where some wonderful stories. Thank you so much
I'm so very sorry for your loss Pete. I feel so so sorry for his family too. Love to everyone
This is the best tribute video to Chris Cornell. Thank you really much.
All the best,
Kasper
