Hi I'm the owner, I'd like to thank Dave for the great work, the Joe Barden really gives it a nicer tone to my ears possibly due to the brass saddles. I'm using this as a jazz guitar but the twang gives it that tele vibe when you dial that specific tone. This guitar has all American components, the reason it has MX in the serial number is because around 1997 the new mexico plant opened and the USA fender paint plant got shut down for not following EPA rules. This led to them shipping the bodies to the new plant in mexico to be painted hence MX/ made in USA combination on the headstock. These were known as the California series and they ran from 1997-1999. Thanks!
I had one just like it, did not say California Series but because of the reasons you listed above it was the same. Neck was a little on the thin side but a great quality tele.
Aren't they great ? Teles take me back to when I was a kid playing hookey from school and heading for the city to where the big music stores were, Harry Landis, Nicholson's Palings and drooling over the guitars locked behind glass doors. The one that stuck in my mind was the Pink Paisley Telecaster. Now I'm an old man and had many Teles the well worn path has led me to G&L Leo's last Telecaster design. The Commemorative Edition #17 of 350 doesn't sound like a Telecaster but it feels like one and if I want, the Magnetic Field Design pups can easily be tweaked to sound like one but I won't do that. I've got a couple of Mick Brierley custom made pups that will fit nicely into a Fender Telecaster body when it arrives. I can't stay away from them.
i've been using the Joe Barden on my partscaster for about 5 yrs now. it did an awesome job of taking the ice pick through the brain out of the bridge pickup. i love it.
dont know if you mentioned but the 2 1/16th string spacing of joe barden is what you need to have correct bridge upgrade to squire tele
besides the introduction of new words ("crudulation") and phrases ("the friggin' truss rod wrench lottery") what I love about this gentlemen is that his internal monologue is 90% of what goes through MY head when I work on guitars. Dave's "Psychic" World is "fun stuff"!
"Gentleman"? LOL! Obviously, you don't have a clue what a REAL man or TRUE gentleman is or the fact that he does NOT spew vulgarity/profanity etc.
The grain pattern of that headstock, is beautiful.
Well Done. Nice looking Telemacaster
And the Jeopardy theme song begins while Dave searches for tools. :-)
Let's give a good shout out to -- Dave & Joe Barden , thanks to both them , now I am gettin a tele love that big gauge tone. Keep the good videos coming always watch
Thinking on putting one of these on my 65 tele but I don’t want to drill those two added holes in the front
That sounds and look much better, good job Dave !
Another Tele gets some love ! Hope all is well Dave . PEACE
Holy Schnikes! That vacuum through my headphones! Thanks Dave! 😳🤘🎸
“It appears to be somewhat of a virgin hole!” Best channel on UA-cam by far
Great "round the slot" tip for winding the plain strings, Dave ! \m/
Gotta say i love me some Fender guitars and basses. i see that tele with the black one-ply pickguard and i just want to play some music on it. But don't be crapping on Mexican Fenders. i've got a cheapo Indonesian Squier Jaguar bass that is better than its $250 price tag. Move up a level to those lower Fender models and you get a damn fine piece of gear for the price. Back when i started playing i bought a Univox Precision for $150 in 1984 money. That was a canoe paddle for real.
I clicked that little bell because this is the first video notification ive gotten in a while and i love your videos. Damn youtube.
albert collins was also the master of the telecaster :D
As were Danny Gatton and Roy Buchanan
I especially like Roys rendition of Misty...

Fender makes and installs an updated ashtray bridge on thier professional series teles. Its about 80 dollars and its better than a Callahan and less expensive. I mention it because it has the screws in the corners like that one however it has the compensated saddles like a Callahan.
Why not just put them on to begin with?
Good question...
I kinda want to ship my tele shaped object to you just to hear the smack you'll talk about it. Love your videos.
Out with the old and in with Gooched!
A little Beatles Day Tripper for the test at the end. Very nice.
Phillip McKnight just showcased a Tele upgrade. He installed a better Tele control plate from Rock Rabbit Parts that would make the Tele in this video complete. It keeps the volume and switch from being to close to each other. It's a slight change but a genius one.
Wow 11’s!!!
you don’t see folks using those much anymore
This is my tele,I'm a jazz student and going through complex chord changes on light strings make me unintentionally bend the strings. My archtop had 12s but I found them a little too heavy since I have a light touch.
I would use 11-48s all day long, but I'm a bass player primarily, so there's that.
Yousef I great guitar you've got there. Im an 11-50 or 52 on my Tele for drop C and B ahaha.
My apologies Dave, I didn't mean to be an ass about the drill thing and can see what you're saying works.
Cheers! 🍻
I have the same six saddle ashtray bridge.
intonation's a bitch on the vintage saddles. it would drive me 🍌 BANANAS!
As just a viewer of pretty much all of your stuff for years, I am surprised (perhaps alarmed is a better word) that I can now tell just from the video that when you insert a 12-thou feeler gauge, it is either too high or too low. And yes, I can even see the "not gonna mess with that" stuff.
You're a bad influence! (Just kidding, and I still enjoy these romps through guitar repair and alignment.)
The Canadian Greek luthier Davius once said. "Make sure your trussrodidus maximus isn't gootched"! LoL 😆
Awesome tele nice bridge
I have a cheaper Tele bridge with regular saddles. I couldn't decide wether to go with compensated saddles or 6 individual saddles(not the offset ones). Seems like intonation is gonna be a breeze! Maybe I'll try some new compensated saddles! They retain the classic look! I like that.👍😎🎸🎶
Vacuuming! I love you brother
although I've been meaning to try the compensated saddles...
"I'm just some schmow who's made every mistake known to man." Amen, brother. So have I and I keep beating myself up about it, even though I know it's not healthy and counterproductive. :)
what would you do for electronics?
I read the description and thought "What the hell is Joe Biden doing with Fender?" Forgive me for not having enough caffiene in the system LOL
Please Release Me , Serenade LOFL 😆
I do like how the old bridge has individual saddles for each string but... what was Fender smoking when they decided to make it an ashtray shape?
thelongslowgoodbye A cigarette??
How would I go about installing a string through bridge on a shitty tele that has a top loading bridge. Love the guitar but the bridge grinds me feckin gears
@@DavesWorldofFunStuff I need to find an Irish equivalent of Dave's World of Fun stuff then because there is no way a dope like me can drill the holes in the right place. Would any guitar tech do that? Because id pay someone to do if it stopped the bridge wrecking my head.
Englebert!
Cool telecaster what year?
Did you know? If you run a bait shop for 20 years ; Your a master-baiter!? 🎵🎸
I hate the "where is my flashlight?" game irl.
Just go get a headlamp and you got both hands free.
@@onpsxmember I own one. it's not always conducive to the situation. and who wants the permanent indent in the forehead?
@@onpsxmember Or simply dip your knob in plutonium.
chuck thomas Jep, that's a problem. I just use it when I really need both hands or looking for imperfections. Just another option besides loupe combos or visors like Erlewine is using. You go to it when you need it. I also like it behind the stage when I can at least use the red light when there can't be any bright light source.
do you ever buy guitars and fix them to sell them?
parts is parts
Dave
Next time you see a virgin hole, could you take a picture? I'm sure many of us have never, ever seen one.
Thank you
Wow. I'm pretty sure I saw one back in high school, but not since.
Is that the Vintage or American bridge?
whats the song you play at 11:15?
Day Tripper....The Beatles
Thank You!
Seriously?
@@kemptonklutz Isn't that required learning?? Right after Satisfaction and Smoke On The Water?
How about Danny Gatton or Roy Buchanan?
Or Bill Kirchen.
The King of Dieselbilly. :-)
👍🏻👍🏻 Danny & Roy! 👍🏻👍🏻
Danny and Roy! Two absolute Tele Monsters!!!
Two true masters
Made in USA on headstock but its MIM?
It also says "California" model, so that clearly makes it Mexican. Or would have done, sometime in the distant past. Not.
All Fenders in the USA are shipped to Mexico for paint the ones made in Mexico stay there the others sent back to California and put together by American Mexicans
Iv gota G&L n had the same saddles n didnt like em at all, put a callaham bridge w/steel 3barrel saddles,, now were talkin.
Callahan saddles suckest. They use tiny height adjustment screws that thin out the tone. You can have them.
Im open to tryin things, are there saddles that uv tried n plan to stay with? May b better than what iv got who knows.
I don't think you can beat the old Fender 3-barrel brass for tone. They sound thick and meaty compared to almost anything else. People make too big a deal out of intonation. I mean, think about it; everyone from Roy Buchanan to Danny Gatton and Jerry Donahue used them with no problems. So do I. And acoustic guitars usually just have a single saddle. People stay in tune just fine with them.
Roy B. hmm good point. Ill try em. Thx
👍💯💙
You can have that crappy Joe Barton bridge those are even worse than the individual saddles you’re pulling off that guitar
what is wrong with Joe Barton bridge?
Picks it up by the headstock to look down the neck...Genius.
Dave's World of Fun Stuff: Play a note then pick up the guitar by its headstock, perhaps you should take a physics class.
Why would you say that the intonation needed adjustment and then just skip filming it? I thought the whole remit of your videos was showing people how to do things.
Dave has said MANY times, that's not the purpose of his vids.
(He's also shown intonation adjustments about a quarter--million times.)
M. P. I’m wracking my brains but.......i just don’t remember asking your opinion. Its a fucking guitar fettling channel. Thats what he does every bloody video. 🤦🏻♂️
Fun? Fun is overrated :)
11's on a Tele. I can't watch the rest. Fuck that
Virgin h***? Dave?
Well this has been demonitized ...
Please release me?!!? Dave, this is a family channel.
‘That’s spectacular for now’?...the jokes just write themselves...
too easy
There is now way in hell i would swap out the 6 saddle bridge for that one!!!
Then you, obviously, know very little about guitar hardware.
@@paulfrombrooklyn5409 I know more than you think!
Yeah, Why swap that out? Senseless.
+George Lackey Because it's a poorly designed piece of shit?
10:46 the compensated design works well.
With more or less elegance some guys have been filing their own saddles to fine-tune since Tele-immemorial.
Three barrels will never flip on you no matter how hard you hit it and string tension over the saddles is divided at one string per height screw rather then two screws. A very slight matter for sure, here's what I found:
Between a filed Tele three barrel, a G&L six barrel and a partscaster six barrel, I like the bridges in that same order. The last one loads further off centre than the G&L and constantly flipped the high E over. The G&L never flips and feels somehow smoother than the solid snap I like in the three barrel. Not changing that G&L though, it's got it's own wonderful mojo going on.
Six or three, both good for me!
Painfully boring. Awful attitude.
And first.
Second
Is that a another Chinese RIP off guitar. Chender Guitar
