Don't worry about giving it an extra stroke, Dave. Sometimes you need a couple of extra strokes to get the perfect nut (especially as we get older) ;)
Instablaster
Jammin' and Nut Carvin'. Gee, it all sounds so dirty. Thanks as always, Dave.
this vid really showed your workmanship, knowledge and experience.
Thanks again Dave... Love you're videos!
Really like that Nut Build Dave, that was some really nice work. Result = Perfect Nut 🥜
I think the guitar looks cool, and ya did a awesome job on the setup, an new nutt for the neck, never ceases to amaze me how much you know about instruments, well keep up the good work Buddy
Another great video from Dave...just put together a MIM Strat body and neck ('50's vintage") and had to file the nut slots since the neck was a "replacement". This video helped tremendously on setting the whole guitar up. Since this is my "first" put-together guitar, I made a few small errors but I will be playing it and not selling it...the only thing I did notice was that the neck fit too easily into the neck pocket of the body and have a tiny gap between the neck and body edge...the strings line up except "hi E" which is slightly skewed @ the heel area and think this may be due to the neck/body fitting. All holes seem to line up when installing the body/neck.........no buzzing and keeps in tune so all is not lost....
I totally love the skill ,,,,,Great Job Dave
Dave, new subscriber. Love the channel! 👍
Nice work again Dave
Keep it up
Hi Dave, I guess I'd like to request an in-depth intonation of the nation investigation?
How you use the Peterson and how you adjust the saddles what to expect can happen to you when you do it like all the little intricacies of and can you use a regular tuner like a clip-on tuner to intonate your guitar or do need a Peterson to do it right? Thank you Dave🇺🇸🇨🇦
Hi Dave- Great video as always. I am a wondering how a guitar that starts at just under $5k (Clarence "Rose Series"..$4850 plus the semi hollow body option, etc.) can come to a customer with a badly made nut. Is this something that would "go bad" over time? Or was it not made properly to begin with? In a mass production guitar, I might expect something to slip through QC but in the advertised totally hand made, one at a time tradition (and priced accordingly), it would seem this is a flaw not caught at its time of birth and just not acceptable. I hope the owner sent your bill back to Echopark for reimbursement.
Mark moser: Totally agree with your assessment.
Exactly what I was thinking!
Saddles: I have the same ones on at least one Tele. The bridge plate is Glendale, so I assume so are the saddles. Been awhile since I played it...
Isn't that the same setup as on all Telecasters?
Love the background music wish you could have that on all the time . I know You Tube will mess with ya ,Bummer.
You are the man Dave love ya keep up the awesome work
"Tune it up to bitch" Ha ha, love that.
The Chicago music exchange deal a lot in this brand “echo park” and they are all about the high end cool stuff the ones I’ve heard being played are very nice indeed.
Those X-Acto saws are great for starting nut slots!
You can purchase a set like that from Arkansas Music Works thru eBay for $16.39. The nice locking swivel saddles can be found in eBay for $29.95. Both types are shipped free at those prices.
More firewood is that what you heat your home with? All them fenders? Like all your vids Dave!!!!!
The "Halo of Flies"- first fret action test...
Man, sorry you deal with that, brother. I worked with an old toolmaker who had the same problems in the winter. I know it gets painful.
ya Dave, that is a Telecaster-type Compensated bridge saddle, corrected for angle of the dangle. Getting to be pretty common, even China has a cheap copy for around $20.
joe barden bridge. much thicker than a standard fender and 2 screws added at the front helps eliminate microphonics from the bridge pickup (also note the pinky cutaway on the side of the bridge plate). the E A saddle is stainless steel and was added as a "Brad Paisley" mod. made popular when he told an interviewer that was a big part of his sound. the reason (most likely) the middle pickup was too low, the owner was trying to get the "Quack like a Strat" in between positions with the 5 way.really nice guitar!
Nice work Dave. I have a stupid question.. the neck rest/holder is it always same hight or is it 2 different ones.. one for electric and acoustic? what should the height be for acoustic?
Great video Dave.
I like sanding the bottom of the nut to get the heighth correct. Especially on a Gibson.
Great stuff , Dave
I love your videos but I think myself and many others would love to hear you play the instruments in all they're different tonal positions maybe upstairs with your big amp!!! PLEAS dave...
I learned a lot his by watching this video. Interesting and very cool.
Did a nut on one of my teles today, I use 800 grit sand paper to open the slots a bit for easier filing. Tweekin', yea lots of tweekin'! I do prefer the pre slotted nut, nice time saver.
Great job davey
Tilted tele saddles have been around a long time, my old Nash has them.
This bridge plate is also cut away on the treble side for better right hand access. Looks like the back of the saddle is cut away mostly as well,. It has no influence on the magnetic field.
The Newfie speed and sport sander does the business.
Dave, I once had a Tele that had compensated bridges. A tech set it up for me and I was surprised he got the intonation. I asked him how and he said he he worked on the nut a bit to get it right as it was the only way due to the compensated bridge
Hi Jim .Surely, filing the nut for intonation would only correct an open (unfretted ) string . If the string is then fretted at, say, the 3rd fret the octave 15th fret would be flat or sharp .
Hey Dave what do you like to use for nut material? Bone ,synthetic ?
Joe Barden compensated Tele bridge; others, too. Dave, thanks for your 'nut' tech'y, I appreciate it. I don't watch TV, either.. Guess, we're 'ol school. Cheers, Mike from BC
DAVE, U ROCK!!!!!! 'U' Toronto Tonto!
You can buy compensated saddles like that. I think Wilkinson are the primary guys for them. But I got much cheaper ones on eBay for my Thinline, and no, I can't get the EA pair to intonate either. Thinking about going back to the original saddle for those as that used to be the only pair that was close with the original straight saddles!😀
Hi Dave,,,quick question for you,,,,what's the best contact cleaner for pots?,I live in the GTA so I should be able to get whatever you think is best. Thanks for all the great vids.
Deoxit Fader F-5.
Thank you very much Dave,,,always helpful,,which is rare these days.My fave vid was one about Ricky basses,,lol,,I bought a 76 when I was a kid and had the same problems you had,,,friggin bridge.Ended up going back to Fenders.Om e agin thanks very much.
Never heard of this brand before . Pretty strange you're doing a Tele video cuz I'm itchin' to buy one . "For the love of Rock & Roll !" Thanx , PEACE
holy christ those guitars are expensive
So interesting.
I'm surprised you haven't seen that type of saddle setup before, I feel like I've seen it a ton of times
Daves Sweet the xtra.. For You anytime
hi Dave ,I have the same problem with my tele, its got similar saddles and you get one right the other is slightly out !!!!!
Nice Tele. It's is an Echopark Clarence Rose Series. Not much change from $5k!
a lot of Tele bridges have those staggered compensated saddle, Gotoh, Vintique, Joe Barden.
Stu Mac
yep they have them too
Great stuff mate, now it's my turn to replace a nut on a fender strat, I ordered a set of pickup keys things what is the skinny one for?
Have seen guys mix match saddles due to tonal differences between steel and brass. To each their own on that
what do ya think about Chilliwhack Dave?
To heal skin splits, use a heavy hand cream (not lotion) containing urea or hydroxy-urea. Walmart carries several.
When my hands get real bad I'll put a bunch of hand cream on and sleep with socks on my hands. Helps.
Ive acually seen peeps bend the screws to achieve the same thing on old fenders to intonate the strings.
Dave, love the Snowbird's T-shirt! Best demo team on the planet especially considering the vintage jets they fly.
God, I luv' R n' R!
What band is that Dave they sound great?
What size is the pick up height allen head wrench Dave?
I thought that was Gus have not heard in many years. Just ordered a copy on vinyl!!! Thanks Dave for playing buddy!
How come you started skipping some of the fixes Dave? You discovered that the E and A strings were sharp then just skipped over how you adjust em to make it right. I don't need showing as i have done it a thousand times myself but i am sure plenty of folks out there would appreciate it.
Echo park, far away in time; Echo park.... what was that '80's or' pop tune?
Echo Beach - Martha and the Muffins
Thanks, dude - my memories of T.O. are fading. Sucks!
Dave, U crack me up!
Itchycoo Park? 1966?
Echopark are great guitars! I love these nut vids. I’m about to attempt my first filing. Wish me luck 🤪
Rock n Rolling to GUS.... I think 🤔 GUS Love Of rock and roll??
To Gooch or not to gooch, that is the question. Echo Beach: Martha and the Muffins
Did you edit the title or did I read it wrong the first time?
Intonation for the stringulation - possible idea
Wonder if it left the factory like that. Those are fairly pricey guitars to be unplayable out of the box.
white paisley?
I talked to PAUL SLAGLE just now and he confirmed that
Echo Park Guitars moved to Detroit Michigan
Paul was asked to go but chose not to I wouldn't go…
I grew up in tough tough tough tough neighborhood as a teen
I'll take Mount Angelus 90042 in the Highland Park area of Los Angeles thank you
CARLOS GUITARLOS
GuitarlosCarlos Hi Carlos, Do you know why they moved? Is it because California is becoming too expensive to live here?
I don’t think I’ve ever seen a Nashville tele in a thinline.
4000 dllars for a sharp cornered tele with a gumby headstock. I love qotSa not for 4000.
That's a Purdy un.
"Intonation Satiation?" Or perhaps "Intonation in Moderation?"
I need a new nut.
Think I'll go down to the gas station and pump Ethel.
Super Dave.
ECHO PARK GUITARS IS JUST NORTH WEST OF DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES IN ECHO PARK... THIS GUITAR WAS MOST LIKELY SHOT BY PAUL SLAGLE (LOOK HIM UP) HIS WORK IS THE VERY BEST ~ CARLOS GUITARLOS 90042
Anyone else here who’s watched Carlos on Norman’s videos??
I have watched Carlos on Norms channel, he is quie the fixture on the channel. Even when Carlos doesnt comment on Norms site it gets noticed.
I"ve watched him on NRG and I think Guitar of the Day's Mark Agnesi watches Dave because the other day he called a trem bar a " wigulator". sure sounded like Dave to me.
#ALLCAPSFORCARLOS
You're the man Carlos!
Those guitars are great. The saddle material is a Billy Gibbons thing
How tall are you?
original Tele's saddle config
One would think they would put a guitar that expensive through a plek machine.
Dave, Trevor Wilkinson's Fret-King guitars do compensated bridge saddles for Teles.
I seem to remember "True Temperament" claiming to produce perfect intonation. Maybe I read it wrong...
The probability of the gooch is adversely proportional to the height of the beer
Intonation to cure constipation.
WILKINSONS MAKE THE SADDLES Dave !
Definitely a beautiful guitar, but one ugly ass looking headstock fwiw.
Intonation - Conflagration
Jeez - $3500 for a bolt on neck component guitar.
Their catalog reminds me of a restaurant that serves a cheeseburger for $35, and tries to make it sound trendy by calling it something else.
watch out for yt police they may be knocking on your door.LOL
$4,000 is the cheapest I see any from that maker...sheesh
I'm seeing $2999 @ Denver Guitar Exchange
VERY expensive guitars
Mildly edgy nut joke
Why did it take me until 23 minutes in to see that there is a middle pickup?
Reply below with every word you can think of that rhymes with intonation. :)
A used yoga mat? Is that like a used pair of panties? LOL
There is no perfect intonation however there is a good reason why you never see a clasical guitar that has to have an adjustable bridge saddle. So classical players do not care so much about intonation as rockers right?
Nylon strings are different more like
When you are talking about a solid string the steel an nylon apart from the different material properties are similar in that the sizes that are made are in steps of one thousanths of an inch. The difference that matters is that for steel strings the core size can vary at the steps of one thousanths of an inch. With nylon you can vary the core size or the tension to a much finer degree thus having more control of the tension which achieves the desired pitch at the desired scale length which helps in getting good intonation. This explains why you have to adjust the bridge saddle for steel string instruments but clasic guitars do not have any adjustable bridge saddles.
