The case of Rachel’s cottage is outrageous. How can the courts make it legal for someone to steal your house?
How a renter can say "you don't step a foot in my house "when they aren't paying rent and it isn't their house.
If they have a lease, then it is their home.
It is their house.
That's exactly how a tenancy agreement treats the tenant.
If you're renting a property if you're paying rent you have to be paying rent you can tell the landlord stay outside but if something is broken contract and the landlord they can come in
Just don't punish the new tenant because you had a bad tenant before
I loved when the tenant said "And even if I didn't let them in to do the repairs, all she had to do was go to the court to get a warrant to enter the property." 😮
I feel absolutely horrible for the woman who had to fight that nasty old witch for 4 years. They knew exactly what they were going to do to her when they moved in. Shame on them. There should be a publicly available list of tenants who work the system like that.
As I did. I find it crazy that nobody in authority entered the property to verify her claims.
Agreed
womp womp.
Don't buy property as investments - they're for families to buy.
@@TheTacticalHaggis There's enough for both. Not all families want to buy or are able to buy. They need rentals just as much. The owner was just a person, not a huge company and was totally abused by those people.
What happened to Rachel is absolutely unacceptable and shows how badly the laws are written in the UK. No landlord should have to deal with that!
If the tenant thinks that the property is damp, then LEAVE !
I do not agree with you at all. Apartments are so expensive these days and the landlords are getting greedier by the minute. There is just not enough affordable housing or low income housing being built.
I dont understand how squatters have so many rights. Its not their house. They dont have a lease, and the real owner wants it back. How on earth do the courts support that?
I was thinking about renting out my home but I would lose my temper way too fast. If they refused to leave and owed me money I would drag them out man or woman. I would change the locks and live in there myself. One way or another there would be trouble...lol
@@dunki-dunki-dawg You'd be in jail.
I don't understand it either. They are basically stealing your home.
@@travelgirl747 you didn't hear the new laws about squatters rights squatters don't have no more rights no more if you want private property you automatically get kicked out you didn't watch the news did you if you don't have a real lease from the property owner you're evicted immediately if you don't have permission from the property owner to be there you'll be evicted and arrested immediately from the property
I've watched this show a lot and it's terrible how squatters get away with stuff. I live in the US and my renters stopped paying rent. After month 2 I went to court and got a court order for them to leave, and for the sheriff to get my money or confiscate goods (like the brand new Lexus in the driveway!!). The sheriff made contact, served the order and gave them 48 hours. By this time they had moved out on their own. They didn't pay after 48 hours so the sheriff took the car, auctioned it off, and sent me a big fat check for everything I was owed plus interest 🙂 Total of about 3 months...
Ok, she's not paying the rent because of the damp, but she wouldn't let the builders in to fix the damp? Then it turns out she was lying about it all. What a mess.
£27,800???? Ok, that is just mental!
Why do tenants have more rights than the property owner. That's freaking ridiculous!!! What the H is wrong with the courts.
As a former landlord these stories terrify me. Mostly my tenants were super messy so I would often have a lot of clean up. Stuff left behind, so I'd have to take things to the dump, and lots of housecleaning. But no serious damage, for which I'm thankful.
They need better laws for landlords, if tenants are saying there is mold or other problems they should be.someone from high courts to inspect the house and be accountable.
In the US you still must pay your rent even if repairs are allegedly needed.
The "boyfriend" Alan is a joke. And Theresa inviting the owner into her own home? Is disgusting. That woman needs to go. They leave the house? Change the locks and act surprised when they call lol. These people are grifters. When they are finally leave the Court's should set a judgment for all fees
The entitlement the ranters is mind blowing.
The entitlement of landlords is even more mind blowing.
@@andrewsa3195it’s big difference between mom and Pop landlords versus the big corporations landlords who don’t care about anyone but money 💯
Man those scumbags who hadn't paid rent in 4 years is unbelieveable. I'm with the other commenters -- Why do the squatters have all the rights.? It makes ZERO sense.....
I’m just wondering how she got away with it for 4 years?!?! 😮 that’s insane!!!
The law should say that if you don't pay rent for 3 months, you can be forced to leave.
Put that in the contract/lease. Get out
Why should the landlord have to go to Court to gain entry for repairmen when the non paying tenant says it needs repair and that's why rent is not being paid. RIDICULOUS !
She's Irish.
They're natural born scammers.
Kelly won't survive it here in Oz. 😂
4 years ?! And some people are surprised when landlord/lady take matters in their own hands due to a completely biased system, as they’re the only ones with a financial burden at the end with thousand of £ in pure loss. I don’t excuse the fact that some of them arson or vandalize their own property to make them un habitable and cut short the non sense, risking criminal prosecution.
How is a landlord not able to recover the money they are owed by a tenant. There should be recourse to garnish the tenant's wages through the court or take possession of their belongings so that the money is recovered. This is absolutely ridiculous.
Only state debts can be garnished from wages.
It's not the employer's responsibility to pay the debts of people.
I rented my house to my loans agent at my Credit Union and she trashed my house and didn’t leave by the vacancy date costing me time money and health. Imagine the person in control of your mortgage effing you over. Love from Canada to Wallsend!
I'd put money on Rachel's tenants doing the same thing at their next property. They are scammers and should be in jail for fraud.
This is so sad for the landlords over there we're I live we get a 90 day notice to vacate an that's it, it amazes me how these tenants get away with it for so long it's like there given more rights than the landlords.
Wow its not like this in America if your one month behind your taken to court and if your lucky they give you thirty days to move.
The uk is as soft as putty when it comes to situations like this. Never buy to let is the only answer as far as I can see.
Not true.
Depends on the state, California has really strong tenant protection laws.
@@Atom_Atomicof course they do, after all it's California! I wouldn't expect anything else from a state that is anti business.
Love that little cottage.
The Squatters are being handled different in US Florida. Police has given the right to people to handle it.
What do you mean? Landlords can evict squatters themselves? Or you can hire some ‘muscles’ to throw them out?
@@ikkelimburg3552 Look the clips up what the police of Florida is saying about this matter. Then you know what i mean.
What that old woman can do? Nothing
In NYC the squatters locate the empty apartments available and just break in and steal them and just stay .....the City doesn't do anything
This year's challenges will undoubtedly be more difficult. Looking back, I realized that I was so focused with my portfolio that I made disastrous financial decisions for the entire preceding year. I had to pick between increasing my investments and purchasing a house. After choosing to sell my investments, I discovered that the property I had purchased required more maintenance than I had anticipated. Trying to find out how much longer I can take this is becoming increasingly difficult.
Take things easy, we've all made mistakes
Invest in companies that provide current cash flows to diversify your portfolio. I hired a planner at the end of 2022 to enhance my portfolio, and in the last ten months, I've made profits in over fifty thousand different marketplaces. Should 2023 teach us anything, it's that luck doesn't last forever. Even in times of abundance, we should put in more effort to prepare for the worst-case scenario.
Can you recommend your advisor? I could really use some assistance
Leah Foster Alderman
You'll undoubtedly find out more if you look her up online
I don't understand why anyone would want to be a landlord in the UK
The older lady I really feel for why should she have to pay compensation to them when she tried to resolve the issues but yet the tenant refused to let them in unbelievable laws need to be changed asap man it's not right.
I’m really confused for Landlord not allowed to go in the property without being invited in by the tenant, over in the UK? In America they are allowed to. They put it in the lease. It normally states that they will give 24 hour notice at least.and that you have to allow any kind of maintenance person in as well.
I would never rent outca home after watching these programs...same in USA ...
I was wondering how Claude let someone stay for 3 years without rent, so I rewound to see the beginning and saw her picture. Makes you wonder.
Living clean costs less than anything…I never left a mortgage or rent unpaid…But, Especially if I was delinquent, I’d be hyper vigilant to keep things re rentable and very clean…That’s the LEAST I could do…
I'm hoping there will be a housing crisis so I can buy cheaply when I sell a few houses in 2025. As a backup plan, I've been thinking about purchasing stocks. What advice do you have for choosing the best buying time? On the one hand, I continue to read and see trading earnings of over $500k each week. On the other side, I keep hearing that the market is out of control and experiencing a dead cat bounce. Why does this happen?
Investing in real estate and stocks might be a wise choice, particularly if you have a sound trading plan that can get you through profitable days.
You're not doing anything wrong; you simply lack the expertise necessary to make money in a bad market. In these difficult circumstances, only really skilled experts who witnessed the 2008 financial crisis can expect to generate a large wage.
Recently, I've been considering the possibility of speaking with consultants. I need guidance because I'm an adult, but I'm not sure if their services would be all that helpful.
My CFA, Desiree Ruth Hoffman, is a renowned figure in her line of work. I recommend researching her credentials further. She has many years of experience and is a valuable resource for anyone looking to navigate the financial market.
Thank you for this tip. I must say, Desiree appears to be quite knowledgeable. After coming across her online page, I thoroughly went through her resume, and I must say, it was quite impressive. I reached out to her, and I have booked a session with her.
The only people making money are the lawyers, the court, and the bailiffs.
Why does it take 4 years to get a court order evicting someone not paying and actively ruining your house in the uk?
I feel heart broken for these people.
Derek is gorgeous! What a smile🥰
I thought the same!!!
Why if i have a car and someone breaks into the car and starts living it it it would be grande theif and the person would go to jail but they do the same to a house and they all the sudden have more rights than the owner wth
My landlord went through this six year ago at the duplex next to us. Those tenants were drug taking deadbeats. Before they left, they broke everything in the duplex, including windows and sliding glass door. It cost him about 15,000 dollars to repair and replace things. They, too said that they stopped paying rent because, according to them, he never fixed anything. He happens to be the best and kindest land lord I've ever had.
The only time I rented my house, the renters decided to stop paying rent after a couple of months. I immediately got online, printed out all the pertinent paperwork and notices, served them via certified mail and posting on the house and took them to court. They showed up, the judge told them that they had to leave by a certain date, they did. Then I got messages from them crying that they had an eviction on their record and nobody was renting to them anymore and they were living in their car, and how come they had an eviction on their records when they left when the judge told them to? I explained to them that the moment the court was involved, that was an eviction lawsuit. Had they voluntarily moved when they were served all the notices of pay or move out, before I had to get the court involved, they could have avoided the eviction. Hopefully they learned a lesson
There should be a column in all the leading UK newspapers that puts up pictures and details of rogue tenants and landlords. There needs to be a long blacklist on a website as well. It is sickening to see bad tenants and landlords all the time. Bad tenants should be homeless and bad landlords should be forced to sell their property.
Or a naming & shaming website of bad tenants, slum landlords and horrible letting agents!
Oh my that cottage is absolutely adorable!!!!
The old me would drag the tenant by her hair out of my property and I would take my grown son for the boyfriend!!
Best show ever!
Leaving for OZ , terrific !!
We don't want her in OZ
There needs to be a database with these bad tenants!
Been saying that in the US for years
If there was a law where wages could be garnished to force payment it would help enormously.
Wow, in the US most states allow for eviction for nonpayment of rent in less than 30 days start to finish. No state would allow six months with no rent and definitely not four years.
How many times do they have to go to court. Living conditions must not be too bad if they have been living there all those years. Landlords should be able to kick them out sooner.
The fact that she saying its just a lil bit of mold when the place was full of mold os crazy ..ugh
Im a renter. I pay my rent and all bills. I look after the property. I asked for some peace from loud music, now i am a terrible tenant who has incurred the wrath of the neighbours, the property management and the landlord. There is no justice.
Don't buy your story. More to it.🤔🦘
move...
@@aussiemouth747It doesn't matter where you live these days !! IT'S a Dog Pound Australia
laws are bullsht
I had a top floor apartment with leaks in the ceiling/roof. I contacted the landlord and a landlord-tenants union. The landlord did give me 2 free months. Otherwise I would have paid my rent to the union, who would hold it in Escrow. There is no option to just stop paying (unless the landlord agrees).
I watched this episode a few years ago. I thought about the woman with the cottage weekly. I hope she was able to move on.
Gawd England sending their trash to Australia again lol
Landlords have rights, as well. Depends on how you word your lease. The lease should specifically spell out the landlord's right to enter the property (of course, after 1st informing the tenant), whether to address maintenance issues such as repairs, pest control, inspect for building code violations, necessity due to insurance inspection, needs to show property to prospective buyers, etc. In my jurisdiction, a formal, written lease is not a requirement - many landlords prefer a month-to-month verbal lease (which can end at any time, based on landlords discretion - the reason can be nothing more than "Lapse of Time", meaning you need to regain control/possession of the property for any number of reasons. Get the tenant to agree to sign a copy of your "Rules & Regulations". Verbal leases can also prove to be much more straight forward in Court. You made it clear to the tenant, that if rent has not been received by the 10th day following the due date, eviction proceedings will be initiated, and this is based on a signed agreement with them, period!
Claude, not fair what you had to put up with. Hope you managed to fix your teeth.❤
i think the property owners should put a clause in the rental contact, that if they tear up the property when living there or do not pay on time they should have to pay for all damages, and pay a fine for damages rendered when living there.
The UK is a joke. Home owners have zero rights. In Australia they would be out the house within a month. What a joke
It seems like people get in more trouble stealing a car than they do stealing someone's property. The property is much more valuable than a car. It's hard to understand!
Shame on your justice system, judges should be made to pay the rent owed
See, I'm awful. The 1st one would have pushed me to see if the smoke would make them leave the property. Then I would be locked up, but she would not have my house to live in.
I let a condo once. Never again and my experience was much better than theirs.
Strange laws.
If they can't get in to fix things I would say that repairs fall back on the renter. Pay up or get out.
Ever since the pandemic people have found it hard to pay rents specially those whose landlord raised the rent during the pandemic. Sometimes there is a valid reason for people mot paying rent, but that don't mean they should not try talking with the landlord and coming to some sort of agreement or seek financial help.
How can you have to pay compo when you can’t get into your property to fix the issue? Make it make sense!
I believe most of those properties were in bad shape before those tenants moved in and the landlords want to blame the tenants for the condition of the apartments.
Whaat? Tenants should only have privacy and not allow the owner in as long as their rental payments are up to date!
In U.S. sqautters rights are the result of a 262 yr old law called The Homestead Act of 1862
Wow this is crazy she only had 3month lease UK courts are wild to let her stay I wouldn't rent my house to anyone seeing how they do things in UK 😮
But if the tenant is in rent arrears, and the landlord never sees the money, don’t it at least go on the tenants credit?? If so, the tenant don’t really get away with anything do they?? And how can they leave the property in such a deplorable condition? Do they have to pay a security deposit before they move in?
I have never seen any tenants like this, england seems to be the worst country for this
Kelly is a disgrace
I wonder how many of theses landlords who are owed money actually see the money. I bet the vast majority never see a dime. It's terrible what these deadbeat tenants get away with.
HOW TF is someone able to live in someone property for 4 YEARS, rent free???? AND then, have to pay the fu**ing tenant compensation for damp conditions. Even tho they wont let workers in to repair!!! Then the police make a gardener leave. In America, well, in most cities in Michigan, idk if all states do it the same. if the lawn gets too long, the city sends a crew, then they bill the homeowner. England needs to get it together. If the property is in such disrepair, WHY does she want to live there. She could be telling the truth about everything, but i wouldnt
believe her, because she's been there for years not paying, and claiming its because the damage.
It’s beyond me why landlords wait for these people to get so far behind in rent 😡
A builder, a nursing practitioner, an elderly lady… these are not the people with thousands to throw at attorneys or court procedures. No big shot landlords with ten or more properties
once a tenant is a month or worse two behinfd eviction should be automatic with a lot less stuffing around than these cumberson and tenant favouring laws cotton wooling them ,,,so unfair on landlords ,,,you get behind and dont do the decent and right thing its off you go .
I feel sorry for some tenant but just paying nothing is mean and selfish and terribly unfair.
Why did it take 3 years? Why can't she just evict them?
Some people live like pigs.
How can that sitting room with a gas hot water system be legal?
Why is court hearing " Costly "? Is this the key?
Because lawyers aren’t free for landlords, only tenants.
Call the equivalent of the Hells Angels in that country.
How do 'renters' have then right to remain in homes when they don't pay rent? Madness!🤔🤷♀️🦘
Lady if she left the cottage. Change the licks
It's a little bit easier to get them out in the States.
Can't the lady in the cottage be charged with perjury for submitting specious photographs?
Claudes a working man, with a family and is owed that kind of money?????? A grifter. Disgusting
Why can't they just reform the laws around the whole issue. Tennent's should have a record of other Landlords they have used which is accessible to Landlords and rent arrears should have a capped amount so if they refuse to pay they can be evicted with a policeman present. Damages to any property should have an attachment of earning or benefits. You could even have an attachment for rent arrears if they refuse to leave and won't pay. Why does it have to be so difficult.
i know this is an old show but is the laws are still like that now. then UK needs to wake up and improve the housing laws cause that not right.
Break the locke
No way would I rent one of my homes out! Do you all not do six months too one year signed contacts? I wouldn’t go pass a six months that way the owner can go in and look around and they aren’t taking care of the place they have 30 days too get out. Smoking wouldn’t be aloud either, you should always do a five year back ground check and work history. You don’t know these people and how they live their life and if you can’t get one on someone well they don’t move in. It just wouldn’t be worth the headache there is others ways too make a second income people don’t get better they seem too be getting worse all over the world. You don’t get away with that kind of stuff in America you go too court one time and most of the time the courts will be with the owner but still wouldn’t be worth it no way especially after watching these. It blows my mind.
That guy should send that txt to Australian immigration.
That old woman is not right in the head!
What does it mean " a lot of damp."
It didn't work out with her daughter, So, she decided not to move out 😶🌫️MB
Should sell apartment (flat) the hassle of renting have you forgotten your last 4 years!😮😧 Better screen, screen new tenants!!
I believe the pendulum will swing back again and landlords/owners will have their rights back.
Why not be smart bring in 10 rappers and have a party just have loud music and tell them they can stay for a couple of days the people will move asap just be careful who you choose
I really hope she chases Rachel
Free rent, that is nice.
If this is Britain I can see why. Ya too lengthy on evictions. USA 30 days we move ya out PERIOD
