    For beginners, consider using water shoes or a good tight pair of toe shoes / barefoot shoes would help to avoid injury of your foot on the foils. At the skill level of Dimitri you don’t need to worry about it but more novice foilers it’s a good idea. Also, some of the places you foil it can be really helpful to avoid injuries to your feet on rocks, possibly broken glass or mussels. Here in Ontario our small lakes now often have zebra mussels which are very sharp, I got a nasty slice on one foot this summer from them that still feels not quite right 3 months later.

    I got a little F One pocket rocket kite foil board with an axis1150, my dock start board. Don't know how many liters but not many. Is it still possible, something I can learn with? I know water starting from windsurfing and kite surfing many years but have not tested this board with the wing. Your video made me want to try it. :)

      Hello Bjorn. If you never Wing before I suggest you start with step 1 by getting a big board that has lots of volume. And then yes you can use your board and you Axis 1150 foil but you will need lots of wind to get on it. Check the video on HOW TO GET ON A WING BOARD. @@epickites Thats great to hear. I´m winging alright. Started last summer doing my tacks and jibes. But when windy and on my 4m wing my big board feels way clumsy and carrying all my kite gear and wing gear, I simply don't want to buy another small board so when I saw this I got intrigued to go straight for the little pocket rocket.

    Hello, question, for optimal water start, how much smaller should the volume be than the weight of the rider? In other words, at 70kg, is a board of 55L already OK, or is less volume even better?

    • @epickites
      @epickites  4 місяці тому

      If you are a beginner and you are around 85 kg then you will need a big board around 115 liters to 120 ltrs. But again don't spend too much money on this board because you will only use it in order to learn how to wing and then you won't have any use for it. So buy something cheap and used. Then your all around board should be around 80 to 65 liters. But this board will be more to use from 9 to 20 knots max. Then you will need to get a 2nd board which will be around 45 to 50 liters and this will be the board you will be using in 15 to 30 knots. The windier it is the easier it is to start on a short board. Me personally I am 75 kg and I have 37 liters for when it is blowing 20 to 40 knots, 55 liters for when it is blowing 14 to 28 knots and 75 liters when it is blowing 8 to 17 knots. It is way easy to water start when it's windy because all you do is put your feet on the board, lay on your back lift the sail so the wind catches and pulls you up. But this is easy to do with small boards because they sink easier. I hope this answers your question.

    Cool stuff but could be a real wing killer while learning:) Sadly no great winds here around Berlin to practice that regularly.

    I did a couple of first waterstart using my 60lt, 5m beeing a bit overpowered, i sm 70kg. My first attempt was after i srall surfing and both of my feet were still in footstraps.
    As ex windsurfer and wear a floating impact west, it was not that difficultés. I am going to do it more often, as it is even easier and faster than bugstart If your feet are already in straps after falling

    Hi what size sand paper you recomend for the foil tips?

    • @epickites
      @epickites  2 роки тому

      If you have a new foil then use 800 to 1000. But if your foil is scratched already then use 400 and then 800 and to finish 1000.

    I haven’t made a serious effort at winging yet, but I’ve been wondering if this was possible.

      Have you tried Kiteboarding? If so...then the adrenaline of Winging is way less then Kiteboarding but once you get on a wave with your wing and put your sail aside you feel you are Aladdin on a magic carpet. It is hard to explain the feeling. But again Winging is very easy to learn and not dangerous at all like Kiteboarding. But the adrenaline you get in Kiteboarding is unbelievable compare to winging.

    Excellent video and explanations. What do you think is the minimum wind strength required for a 75kg rider and a 4m wing?

    • @epickites
      @epickites  2 роки тому +2

      I am 75 kg also and I can waterstart (windsurfing style) in (16 to 20 mph) using my 4m wing and 35 liter board. But if the wind is (18 to 22 mph) it's even easier. Yesterday for example it was blowing (12 to 18 mph) so I took my 5.5 WAVE wing and my 60 liter board because I knew the wind was dying and I did not want to be stuck out in the waves. I was able to waterstart windsurfing style half of the time by getting up on the gusts. But the problem I had was that my board had too much volume compare to my 45 liter and 35 liter boards. So it was hard to sink it totally while getting up from being pulled by the wing. The more your board sink the easier it is to get pulled on your board. But then your board will be 4 feet +++ under water and you will need wind in order to bring the board out of the water. That is why the more wind you have the easier it will be to do the WATERSTART WINDSURFING STYLE. But again use a short board (25 to 45 liters).👍

    Dimitri, you should try using a twin-tips board with a wing, it's radical, but you need at least 30 knots. Good video though.
