I bought a XFX 7900XT 310 Speedster on sale for $705. I love the card, but its fucking massive. It wouldnt fit in my case, so I had to get a PCIE4.0 extension Cable and then 3D Print a Stand for it to sit outside of the computer. It was pretty hilarious as first, but now I love it, because having the card outside of my case has lowered thermals on both my CPU and GPU. And since my PC sits behind my monitors on a desk, its not an eye sore either. TL;DR - Stize of this card is an issue, but if you can accommodate it, its a beast.
I just got mine yesterday, benches and performs as it should, but there is weird web browser lag sometimes. Scrolling and video playing when multitasking, kinda odd coming from an nvidia card. Also, It's huge. You did not emphasize that enough. You should really use the support brace that comes with it and that will make the card much longer than specified. The support brace is not so much for card flex as much as it is for motherboard flex. It's meant to keep your motherboard from taking weight stress. I had to get a new case and completely rebuild my machine (took 3 hours), but it's running so cool and quiet I'm beginning to become enamored with it. It's a great price right now and a really good deal, just know what you're going to deal with.
It's fairly interesting how much the 7900XTX cards vary in terms of overclocking potential, seeing your card only reached a bit above 2.8 GHz while other people are hitting 3 GHz with relative ease. Either that or it comes down to patience for dialing in an optimal setting. After all, lower hotspot temps are king with last-gen and current-gen RDNA cards, since those dictate the amount of boost clock you're getting. So running higher fan speeds can result in decent gains.
I have the same card he reviewed and its not quite that simple. Regardless of the Undervolting/Overclocking, I have experienced a wide array of GPU clocks from game to game. There's no rhyme or reason and I think its mainly because of the way the AMD Adrenaline software/drivers are handling the settings being fed to it. I have some games where it has no problem hitting 3,000mhz on the GPU clock with a 2,700 Mem clock. And other games, like COD MWII it will not go above 2,850Mhz. The speeds vary from game to game.
@@compaholic83 As RX 6800XT owner.. Yes.. RDNA3 is nearly the same as RDNA2 when it comes to frequency In some Games I get like 2350MHz, while in some others I can get 2500MHz But be warned.. higher frequency doesn't always translate to higher fps.. Undervolting helps with frequency.. but getting less volts because of the udervolting results in slightly lower performance Just like AMD CPUs.. reducing the volts too low might lead to higher frequency.. but at costs of slightly lower performance
Quite a few factors that come into play. Cooling is the biggest as well as your power limits and silicon lottery. I have a 6950XT that on air would max out at around 2830mhz and after the hot spot gets toasty enough frequency would be 2680s-2790s. Put a water block on it stays dialed in at 2875mhz +/- 15mhz.
I managed over 3000mhz fairly easily. 1070 mv puts me around 3050 peaks. It boosts higher and can go down to 970mv but it gets a little unstable in games so I just leave it at 1070.
So here is a funny story. I have one of the reference cards that hit 110C when mounted horizontally. However due to a fluke and basically winning the silicon lottery i have noticed that when I mount it vertically it seems to have excellent cooling. It will boost to clock speeds up to 2800mhz while staying around 80c on the junction at 60% fan speed all day. It manages this whitout an overclock or undervolting as well. So after some deliberation I have decided to not RMA the card and to live with a sideways PC instead. I understand that reselling the card as it is will be a problem, but I never do that anyway so ...🤷.
Got one of these myself and just popped on rage mode in the Adrenalin software and it also hits over 2800mhz and yeah gets close to the 400w mark as well.. Still been 100% stable like that.. but might play around with trying to under vault it a bit.. but yeah I also had their 6900xt black edition and this is a lot better..
Excellent review. Very detailed, clear, and thorough. I believe the $100 over the reference is worth it for the additional cooling and OC potential while maintaining low fans rpms. Can I ask what wattman values you used for the OC? Min/max mhz, undervolt, mem frequency, fast timings or standard? +15%? Thanks.
In Germany it is to date only 50€ over the MSRP with 1199. The Hellhound model was already 100€ below with 1050€ (thats here the MSRP of the 7900XT :D the XT OC models are alread by 960 €)

Great review, but you dont underclock to "maintain stability", you underclock to stay within the powerlimit. Because that is what in the end limits this model.
It’s not going to if you have a high res monitor. Future driver updates suppose to tweak the power usage there more. So that will likely fix it I think. It depends on power usage at desktop and that depends on refresh rate of your monitor.
Just got the XTX Merc 7900 XT and its good. However, I would expect a bit more than 160 average fps in Warzone 2 with a 7600x CPU at 1440p, or are my expectations just too high? (Couldnt find a XTX and I upgraded from 5700 XT).

I never understand why people reviewing the newest fastest supercomputer-like GFX card out, are concerned about "Overclocking" it, to get maybe 2% more. It's stupid fast already.
The XFX is one great card, but I do have one big complaint. In all the advertising, and details on the website, and 99% of the videos on this card (including this one,) completely ignore the large additional length that the anti-sag bar adds to the already long card. 344mm my ass, with the absolutely needed support bar, the total length is 375+mm. This additional length causes the card to not fit in several popular cases, including the Be Quiet 500DX. I was prepared, and it just took 5-7mm to be ground off the end of the brace, but I'm certain that there are some very disappointed gamers out there who read a card length of 344mm and thought they were good.
@@r3tr064 The card fits, but if you want to use the brace it comes with, you either need to grind off 5-7mm from the pointy bit of the brace, or you can only have a single fan in the front

I did undervolt more but anything lower 1090 and i started to loose performance, the settings i got were the max fps i was able to squeeze out of it, but if i was concern about heat and energy draw it would make more sense to undervolt to your settings, which the card still performs well, but if you want max fps those were my settings
I just got this card. My hot spot hits 86c while the core 67 at full load. Mine constantly reaches 3000mhz on the clock while gaming. Those fans are loud though. Can't wait till I get my waterblock
A good method of reviewing, super informative, and enjoyable.
11:05 omg killed me 😂 love it subscribed
Great review! I just got this card. I love the sleek design really looks premium and has a solid build quality. The cooler performance is great too.
@Mr Video Game It's not loud from my experience but power consumption is high. It has gone over 500w many times.
@Mr Video Game yes it has power spikes.
@3:32 - After you mentioned it, I can't unsee it. I will print some silver color stickers and replace the stock ones.
Thank you for the laugh, needed it tonight. :)
Just got one today - everything was advertised with the aluminium style shroud, though unboxing mine it was black!
Cards got more ex's than Leonardo Di Caprio
The XFX 7900 xtx import is one of the cheapest XTX cards in UK, just bought one from Amazon for £890 including delivery.
@@compaholic83 that's also good that you can make oc profile for every game. Automatically loads the profile when you launch the game.
@@compaholic83 As RX 6800XT owner.. Yes.. RDNA3 is nearly the same as RDNA2 when it comes to frequency
In some Games I get like 2350MHz, while in some others I can get 2500MHz
But be warned.. higher frequency doesn't always translate to higher fps..
Undervolting helps with frequency.. but getting less volts because of the udervolting results in slightly lower performance
Just like AMD CPUs.. reducing the volts too low might lead to higher frequency.. but at costs of slightly lower performance
Watercool it. You are lucky to hit the Silicone Lottery.
aww luv the review now i am confused whether to buy the 4080 or this card Diammmm...good job once again

In Germany the hellound 7900xtx was 100€ below MSRP of the AMD model. The XFX is roughly 50€ more then the 1049€ MSRP with 1199€
now to make sure it fits.
@MrvideogameBrit is as noisy as every gpu on max rpm, it is powerhungry so better limit FPS for better wattage
Ended up picking this baby up for 979 plus tax from Amazon super excited
Excellent review. Very detailed, clear, and thorough. I believe the $100 over the reference is worth it for the additional cooling and OC potential while maintaining low fans rpms. Can I ask what wattman values you used for the OC? Min/max mhz, undervolt, mem frequency, fast timings or standard? +15%? Thanks.
In Germany it is to date only 50€ over the MSRP with 1199. The Hellhound model was already 100€ below with 1050€ (thats here the MSRP of the 7900XT :D the XT OC models are alread by 960 €)
Has anyone else been having issues with the drivers?
When I try to boot I get green and white screen tearing before it reaches the OS (win 10)
If I try to enter bios (650m motor wifi (MSI)
It does not respond and stays permantly glitched until powered off.
Tested old GC works fine with w/&w/out AMD Ard.
NO drivers & this issuse does not happen with bios; both AMD Adr. (Latest 2) cause the bios issuse satated above
11:00 - Awesome stuff :)
Just picked this card up from Amazon for $1049.00. Was at $1276.00 for a bit but was waiting for it to drop. For the $1050 price, IMO, it is hard to beat for performance and the costs for everything else right now. Will be putting AlphaCool water block on this once they release it. I'm upgrading from a Vega 64 and gamming at 3840x1600 on a 38"ultra wide.
To those who just saw this I went back to Amazon and the price jumped back up to $1279 right after I bought it. It is shipped by Amazon so lets see if I get it, LOL!
Got it for $1000. It was used like new so my guess is someone bought it and returned it right after. I have full warranty still and it works perfect
nice. i got it for 1300 $ but thats because in europe we have 21% VAT on everything but still its the best price on the market at the moment. will pair nicely with 7900x
@Mr Video Game my XFX card is perfect. i dont think gpu is making a big difference on my electric bill. go for it and dont worry. i can only speak for XFX card. not reference version
@Mr Video Game A little noisy, and the electricity bill will go up if you keep your PC on as the idle is a bit high. other than that this card put nvidia to shame
Will you be doing a review on Nitro +?
great review. if AMD does a good job with their FSR3 release next year, this would be a great upgrade from my 4070 TI. Frame generation on that card has been super dissapointing.
Just picked it up on sale for $944
i just changed out my thermal pads with 15W/ m.k pads and a 13 W/ m.k PTM7950 pad for the GPU core and my Hotspot sits at 45c on idle and the card can play all my games now and the fan does not vamp up on certain graphic demanding areas anymore. Quality pads make a differnece
I wanted the 4080 but ended up with an 7900 XTX. It was a $300 difference
is 7900 XTX on par with RTX 4090 on 1080p or not ?
It's not easy to find the RTX 4080 at 1200 either. Most models are 1300 USD or more.
I don't have a rtx 4080, but the local computer stores in the Bay got a lot in stock for 1250. MSI gpu
They're in stock at best buy.
Not sure if I understood correctly, but was it stated in the video the anti-sag isn't really needed?
I keep mine at 2800-2980 with adjusting adrenaline software. I’ve not undervolted much but it def beats that base clock all the time
I just this card and a 4080 and I cant wait to try both of them. Im upgrading 2 gtx 980s, so this should be a huge upgrade for gaming.
This was my first choice. Sadly, my order was cancelled due to an error and high demand, so I got a 4080 and I'm not regretting.
Can't go wrong either way. Yea it's expensive, but it's a step up from the 3070.
I own a 3070 right now as well. What's your CPU? And how big of a performance (Fps) increase have you seen?
How quiet is it ? Particularly for 1440p. ( my gigabyte3060ti sounds like a jet engine )
@@Rayne113 don't bother and don't get caught in the hype, these cards are brutally overpriced and not worth it from a 3070

Can you post the overclock/ undervolt in writing. I have the same card and im having a hard time to adjust it. Thanks i just subscribed.
Which bios was this tested with? The quiet, or the higher performance bios setting? It has a dual bios, with slight different power allowances, and difference fan slopes.
So far happy with mine, got it for $920 plus a free copy of Starfield. It was this or a 4070Ti for $800, so I think this is a way better deal.
I just ordered mine today and getting a free copy of Starfield too. Mine doesn't come in til Thursday though. Looking forward to upgrading from a 6950xt
Same here man. I’m between the 4070tu tuf gaming one, or this card…. Which one is better ? Based on price I’m assuming the 7900xtx. I was looking at the 4080’s as well but they are like 300 more… but out of what I’m willing to spend
I like the brace it came with for extra support
Got this card on sale for 1045. Pairing it with 7600x 1000w psu. Msi tomahawk atx b650. I play 4k only. It's going to kick noob vag. I do wish it was black white instead of black silver/greyish. But still love the look. I'm doing black white blue (grey) build. I have other grey aesthetic so it actually perfect. going to oc this bad boy to around 2750 +
This card is almost exactly the same size as my XFX Merc 319 6900XT. I didn't even have to adjust my bracket. Plug and play, except I had to add a power cable.
i have that, and i have an issue with the hotspot, while playing bg3 or starshiptroopers extermination, it reaches 110"c, even when i change the thermal paste and thermal pads, an artic mx6, and am using a dvi cable 2.1
Anyone remember XFX Thick boi (Thick 3 from 2019) ? I hoped they bring that back
At least they gave us a Thick backplate this time Lol
Just ordered this card for $969, which is on the lower end of pricing for 7900 XTX's. Looking forward to trying it out, after I relocate my CPU radiator from the front of my case to the top. LOL
I just ordered one, $960 as of today (11.16.23). That puts this model in the lower half of the 7900XTX pricing right now. Can't wait to get it, I'm upgrading from a 6800XT, the part that's a severe bottleneck for me in the main game I play. This will be my first XFX card since my Crossfire 7770's back in the day.
It is $940 today lol, lmk how it goes. I am thinking about buying it.
@@swaybul I should get it today, so we'll see.
I ordered it yesterday at $940. Currently have the same version of the 6800XT but building a new system with this. Really disappointed it didn't go back to $900 or lower this week, but $940 with Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora isn't bad.
The best XTX cards are usually dummy thicc. I have a XTX Nitro+ and it's massive. It's _just_ under a 4090 in terms of size.
Sorry if this has been answered before but can you remove the black cover to paint it? It looks like based on the video that its relatively easy
Just ordered this card at £939 which is much more of what it should cost as of august 2023 Cheers
This card is huge but it fits in my corsair 2000D perfectly.
thx for your job, god bless you
Guys ı have a question to who have Xfx merc 7900xtx black.
What is max gpu temp on full load?
Great review, but you dont underclock to "maintain stability", you underclock to stay within the powerlimit. Because that is what in the end limits this model.
I have this card and cannot get the fans to zero stop. The AMD software does not do it. Anyone know how to do this?
It’s not going to if you have a high res monitor. Future driver updates suppose to tweak the power usage there more. So that will likely fix it I think. It depends on power usage at desktop and that depends on refresh rate of your monitor.
@@NetworkNinja84 I see. Thanks. I'm running a 4k 144hz monitor
11:03 Did no one notice this? LMAO
Just got the XTX Merc 7900 XT and its good. However, I would expect a bit more than 160 average fps in Warzone 2 with a 7600x CPU at 1440p, or are my expectations just too high? (Couldnt find a XTX and I upgraded from 5700 XT).
I have the XFX Merc 7900 XTX and at 1440P with lowest settings, FSR 1.0 set to quality. COD MWII benchmarks 290-295fps with the highs peaking around 360fps with a AMD 5950X.
The center of those fans would look good with a hypnosis spiral sticker
Just bought one
Now AMD/Retailers just needs to lower the Price :)
1500€+ is far from a Deal.
For 1100€ Retail Price I'll take it. And even that is far from a good Price imo.
Or I pay 799€ Retail for a XT. That would be an acceptable Deal for me too.
Thanks for the Review. It's a great Card with a fair 100€$ Price over MSRP. Good Job, XFX :)
What vertical gpu mount was used in the case at 2:00?
I wss looking at this one and i have a 850w psu will that be enough? The websitr said its yhe minimum so i eoud think it is
Does anyone know how to turn off the "XFX" light on the card? Really annoying if the PC is running over night for a project.
I can run Starfield ultra max everything borderless fullscreen FSR 2.1, VRR, Vsync on a 45" LG ultrawide OLED 80+ fps, seamless looks like a movie. I love this card
how much is your power draws ?

what switch is the full power mode ? left or right ?
So which model should I buy the pulse or the xfx?
i heard the pulse is not that great in terms of cooling and users been facing crashing issues while gaming.😆
So it doesn't fit 500dx pure for sure??
@@r3tr064 The card fits, but if you want to use the brace it comes with, you either need to grind off 5-7mm from the pointy bit of the brace, or you can only have a single fan in the front
How is this card basically matching the 4090 in everything shown?
please review the msi 7900 xtx trio classic.. a lot of people are waiting for the review

How many dB during gaming please ?

Does it have fuses on power lines like sapphire or msi cards?
What's everyones thoughts on GPU longevity when maxing out the power delivery during overclocking? The Sapphire Nitro 7900XTX can pump 480W into the RDNA3 card whilst still maintaining reasonable temperatures. Any chance that this could have a detrimental effect on the cards function over 4-5years?
