I wonder if this design was originally planned for RDNA 4, but after AMD said they wouldnt do high end they've brought it to these models? Its a shame but these models are so cool. I love XFX
Amd may say they won’t make a high end gpu but I think they will. I could be wrong but In my mind they would be foolish to not make a flagship. Intels new battlemage will have a flagship, nvidia will have their 5090, AMD will have a flagship.
Magnets have always been a core part of Motors in general, so it's surprising but also concerning that we haven't seen something like this sooner; Unless it HAS been done before and there were problems that XFX is hoping won't come up! I am hopeful that this will change the cooling scene for the better. But I am also skeptical considering the key feature of how Magnets and Copper have been at the core of Power Generation and Motors since it's inception!
This has been done before IIRC, but that card is gorgeous. Glad XFX changed their style I was getting tired of the same thing they've had for 3 generations now.
At the beginning I thought that was only the fan to be removed, and I was asking myself "why contacts at the base?" - then I realized the whole fan/motor assembly is removed. Well XfX did the same thing some time ago, altough the system wasn't magnetic but mechanical.
I watched all the reviews on the new XTX here's a TL;DR: Pros; -Magnetic fans means it's easy to take them out to clean or replace them. Pretty smart and should be the way things are going forward with premium cards. -PTM 7950 means hotspot temps and delta should be in check, no need to worry about pumpout issues. -Decent price compared to Sapphire. Cons; -Fans are rather loud and inefficient. -Dissapointing cooing performance considering the large vapor-chamber. The Sapphire Nitro version runs cooler while being smaller. Conclusion: This card is worth a buy if you're looking for an XTX. While the cooling performance isn't the best, it's also more than enough, and the card will last.
I wouldn’t agree that the fans are loud. Not sure on how others tested but ours were where I’d expect them to be and no louder than the rest of your system. An AMD reference card would be much louder.

the 7900xtx black oc edition from xfx is amongst the best due to bios switch for higher wattage, in addition you can use certain mobo's like the asrock one if you want to go crazy and do a 500watt xtx build. So I think xfx has been a decent choice typically for awhile, but the silicon lottery will always exist.
This should honestly be adopted for standalone fans as well. It's often impractical to detach the fan frame from case or CPU cooler to clean it thorougly. Some attempts have been made by Enermax in the past, but their version actually removed the rotor out of bearing, which means breaking seal, needing to lubricate and potentially introducing contaminants.
Have you been hands on with recency of the magnetic air cards and their “standard” SKUs?. I love the idea and I’m wondering if I could swap the shroud/fans from my xfx non-magnetic card and just put on the magnetic shroud. Any idea if it’s the exact same card/cooler as their other versions or have they made a brand new cooler size/shape that a simple shroud swap wouldn’t work? These cards with the magnetic fans seem Power limited, my 7900XTX XFX Merc 310 does 390watts and hits higher clock speeds and gets higher FPS than what your showing (80-100 FPS at 4k with full RT).
