I use Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 0w 20 API SP ILSAC GF6A oil in my Corolla GR. Transfer case & Diff fluid went with redline 75w 85 and OEM for transmission fluid. I just hit 20k miles did break fluid flush as well.
I'm not sure when I'm going to do my transfer case, trans, and diff. I was hoping the dealership would cover it for me with the the Toyota care at least once but I feel like it should be done soon
THX for the vid.
One concern?!
By lifting the front end - with the change of angle - do you think that "ALL" the oil actually drained out of the pan?
I think NOT
You might want to sacrifice a 1/2 quart of new oil to displace what old oil is left in the pan.
The drain plug is on the end up the pan so if anything it helped drain more out..
@@teejaylc I had a Quick Look - the plug is at the end of the pan - but it is at the front of the vehicle. so lifting the front (as u did ) will leave more oil in the pan!!!
@@TerryManitobathe drain plug is at the rear of the pan. So jacking up the front draws the oil down and out
I'm at 400 miles coming up quick. I saw a guy with a notched hockey puck for his jack so he didn't have to be in the wheel. Thanks for this
I don't know if I would trust that.. 400, your getting there! A longer jack would be a lot better
@@teejaylc yeah I've been researching it all. Thinking of ramps for it maybe too. Do you know of a way to keep the back up camera on while you're driving? Used too in my old civic. Thanks
@@AnytimePaintingCohasn't found anything on that. Pretty impressive a civic did that. I know my audi can too 👌🏼
@@teejaylc hey hey yeah it's that time just hit the 1021 mile mark. Just went with some nice ramps.
Transfer case n diff video soon?
Still figuring that out.. Driveway is not flat and garage is packed full of stuff lol. The car has to be level on jack stands to fill both of those. Owners manual says 20k on the diff so I may wait a little
I'm surprised that the GR Corolla's don't come with a under hood insulator for that price. I bought a SE hatchback and it didn't come with one either, so I purchased it separately
Nowadays, manufacturers make cars too cheap ... smh
If i do my oil change at 621miles , when do you think we should do the next one ? at 5k miles ?
Yes, 5k should be your next one and then just proceed the same after that every 5k.
Great video. I think the only thing you forgot is waiting 10min or so after shutting the engine off to check the oil level. This is suggested in the owners manual
I knew I forgot something 🤦♂️
@@teejaylc I wonder how big of a difference it makes. Probably very small, but I’m overly cautious.
@@ThomasTwomeyprobably not much. I know I did wait. Just didn't put it in the video..
Thanks for the video!
No problem! Glad it helped 👍🏼
Nice informative video. However, don't get underneath a car with just the jack stands or ramps holding it up. Those can easily fail. Also, with this engine, because of the way the oil travels, you must allow at least 8 minutes for the oil to make its way down before checking the level to get a good reading. It is also not just any 0W-20 oil, it is a special spec oil as it says on the oil cap so make sure your oil meets that requirement. The regular oil Toyota sells does not provide the special specs on the bottle so check. The Mobile 1 oil should be fine and will provide the specs on the bottle. The Car Care Nut has a nice oil change video for this car as well.
Thank you! 👍🏼
The Toyota oil does meet the special specs, I believe. Look up starburst symbol for ILSAC GF-6A , which the Toyota oil does have on the bottle
why do you fill it to half point only? Also, did you wait about 8 minutes or so to check the oil after you started the vehicle and shut it off? This type of engine requires longer wait period for the oil to drop down in order to get an accurate reading......
Yes, I waited. I forgot to mention that in the video. I filled it with the amount that toyota specifies. As long as it's between the 2 dots it's OK 👍🏼
Yes I waited before I checked it. The vehicle was at the half from the factory and I put the exact amount they called for back in
Great video. Thanks
You are welcome!
Wouldn't you need to fill the oil filter up with oil first so that the engine doesn't run dry for a couple cycles while the oil runs through it??
It's not protocol from the manufacturer but some people do that as preference
Always do at least enough for the filter to absorb the first pour into the filter
winter tires?
Nexen winguard sport 2. They are amazing
i bought low profile drive up ramps from Harbor freight way better than Jack
I have a harbor freight close by. I'll check those out. I'm planning to go lower so didn't want to commit to any ramps if they weren't going to work in the future
Okay but who pours oil like that? Try it flat next time with the handle on the side. Thanks for the vid on something to watch
🤣🤣🤣 I know. Only reason I did it like that was so you could see it better in the video. If I did it normal I would have blocked the camera 😆
@teejaylc hell yeah bro, cheers 🍻. I understand where you're getting at no hard feelings 🤙
@@user-ub8ck3fi6sthanks bruv!!
those are big chunks of metal
It will be fine 🥸
Your poor pinch welds... i used ramps and that was more than enough.
Ramps work good too. I wanted to use a jack and stands for the sake of the video 👍🏼
@@teejaylc I use these rubber Jack stand pads that preserve the pinch welds
Its okay, the pinch welds are designed for that, that's gow you lift it on a t post lift.
@@blackGRCit's all preference but thanks for watching 👀 👌🏼✌🏼
