- IndiGo's inaugural flight of the ATR72-600 was captured by our team at Delhi Airport. Here is a glimpse of the event. :)

To all the people who are blaming Indigo for the "water wastage" :D :D Please do one thing, go on UA-cam search box, and search for "______ water cannon" and just fill in the blank with ANY airline that you can think of, be it Indian or from somewhere else. Don't blame indigo for this. Its a tradition and happens all over the world. There is no harm done here, those fire trucks spray more water than this in their weekly/monthly drills.

Water is a precious thing. So don't waste this. Other airlines do this so I will do the same thing, this is not fair. So be careful and do think what will be happened after 10-15 years.

Jo meetha pani hum log peete hai woh earth pe limited hai jo tere samajh me nahi ayegi. Agar woh pani unlimited hai toh scientists log hum e kyu barbar satark kar rahe hai ki pani waste mat karo.
It always amazes me as to how pilots are able to align the front wheel perfectly on the yellow line
this is achieved with the help of Ground control team

@@AshishSingh-iq7sh Seriously? Duh, do you really think those pilots just sit up there and switch on the AP? AP ofc doesnt work on ground, and when it does in the air, the pilots have to bare similar responsibilities and workload had the AP not being there, it is just that the AP controls the aerodynamic control surfaces for you so you dont need to be hands on all the time on the yoke or sidestick. Instructions still need to be put in the MCP(Boeing) or FCU(Airbus) and in the FMC computer. Hope you understood and will start respecting pilots for there knowledge and skills more ☺️

The ATRs are the main workhorses of almost every airline now, both Indian and foreign. Very versatile and durable machine!
I was anaware that Indigo has these type of aircrafts also !! This low cost carrier has bright future in INDIA .
At present many ATR-72 flights operating on mid haul routes of 400 to 1000 kms. in india. Very good 80 seater planes.

The ATR is sluggish and slow. The Bombardier Q400 is a much more responsive aircraft. More comfortable as well.
Not really. The -600 is way more comfortable than any Q400 and burns much less fuel. That's why airlines get rid of their Q400s.
ATR is also Beautiful.
I've been on a Q400 from SpiceJet and ATR from Indigo.
The Q400 felt way noisy and gave a big headache. ATR was very smooth and more silent.
I love both but Q400 landings are hard most of the time

Agreed that they wasted water but it's one kind of fire fighter training to check whether the system is working or Not if the plane complete long voyages it is saluted by water.

Why water wastage???
Please , mind that the water used there is not for drinking purposes .Only for using during emergencies in the airport, these days emergencies are really rare in Airports, it is not wrong when used only once!

The water salute is a convention all around the world to 1) celebrate the opening of a new route, 2) welcome a new plane or say farewell to another (like in Concorde and 3) the fire trucks performing the water salute can test out their equipment and ensure nothing fails so that when a plane crashes, the equipment doesn't fail on them.

A good number of comments here have pointed to the wastage of water for a ritual which typically have no real value. I will write to the airline honchos in India to discontinue practices that waste resources. As an alternative, they can donate tankers of water to drought-prone areas in India which will win them a lot of goodwill.
