Great feature. I'm madly glad. It is only necessary to correctly specify the bitrate of the track and the DaVinci algorithm will do all the work for you.

I wonder how long it will take Resolve to have a command to show the grid on the edit page. I think that keeping video and audio as separate entities that I would have used markers on the audio then jumped over and cut where I wanted the cuts on the beat. Especially if using alternate clips to edit. Then markers would remain you could of course label the markers and use the edit list to jump to different labeled event is the music - especially in a music video - labeling the chorus or guitar solo etc. really helps in editing. May as well set the audio, which in a music video is usually the artist's song and doesn't change and use the beat markers for all the editing forward. Your way there seems to be quicker, but it does commit to the cut. Resolve should just have a tap method to get the BPM. Good tutorial though - easy to follow.

I use Screenflow for Mac. It’s great and easy to use. But do note that it doesn’t work 100% with macOS Ventura just yet. Thankfully, I found a workaround using my audio interface to record computer audio.
Fairlight and the whole multi tab software of Resolve has been a boon to those of us who constantly had to export to another app just to do a mix and then potentially need to change if there were content/length changes. However I will say that if you need a beat counter to help you edit to a beat you may want to consider another job. Not everything is cut to a beat... least of all the cut point itself.
@@mariotriforce I'm talking about having multiple video layers on the same track. This works only for audio, but not for video. There is a setting you have to enable called Layered Audio Editing and then Show Audio Layers shows how the audio layers overlap. I would love to have this feature for video too.
I'd use a separate track for each person, then I'd send them all to a bus once they are lined up and edited the way you like. On the bus you can apply some effects, etc.

It is similar to your earlier transition where you exploded in a burst of fire and smoke in your backyard, then appeared in your office in a similar blowup. That one and this intro I'm looking for to put in a video where, say an action hero in mask and cape sits at a desk, there is the explosion, and now the action hero is at the desk in the "Clark Kent" disguise. Can you refer me to where I can purchase that effect or preset for DR 18.1 Studio? I don't see it at Motion VFX. Or could you do a video on making it? Or add it to your shop where I can buy it? Thanks. PS. I did purchase your Project Settings Presets, thank you for them, do I need to add anything to them for use in 18.1? I wonder if MotionArray has and explosion preset- I'll look there too.
Hey Thanks! To make that kind of effect like in this video, it's just stock footage from ArtGrid.io. To make myself disappear in an explosion, I just grabbed an exploding video on a transparent background, then made a cut after I jumped, put the explosion on top, then cut to a video where I wasn't in the shot. It's pretty basic, nothing fancy. 😜
@@JasonYadlovski Okay... I've come across those transparent footages of explosions and fires (some who offer them call them overlays) and understand now how you used them. Hi J. Thanks a lot 👍👍👍 That's answered my question of 2 days ago. The Cross-fade Gaps tool is somewhat useful because it saves some time, the Fairlight Grid is actually crap. Editing video is done in the edit tab and not in the fairlight tab. So why use a beat-grid in Fairlight. It is way too inaccurate to edit in the fairlight tab. Someone editing a music video is not going to do it in the fairlight tab. Incomprehensible that BM does not export the grid to the edit tab for further use. But your tutorial again is very helpful and well explaining. By the way why doesn´t BM ad a beat detection to DR? One of my biggest wishes for DR........
I wonder if you could basically create your own beat grid in the edit page by putting a background video track on the Edit page and then manually add markers to that video track in the Fairlight page then go back to the Edit page and see the markers on the background video track. Then disable the background track and you will still see the markers on it and use them as a guide to editting video to the beat on the Edit page. I think this could be a good workaround. Think I will try it when I next boot up DR.

Hey Jay, thanks for the video! Would you say when editing to the beat, the grid is easier/better to use than transients? I watched another video of yours on editing to the beat in DVR18 3 months back, and I know the grid is new, so wanted your opinion on which is better/easier.
I love your content, but when I attempt to replicate what you are doing, I keep on getting an error message "Invalid Selection - unable to create crossfade."
Didn't work for me on Resolve 18.1; tempo didn't change; clicked "set tempo grid start" and they were off. Had to use transition detection but there are too many transitions. Was hoping the "markers" would be less doing it this way but I can't get it to work; they don't align with the beat.
Wouldn't it be "Better" if Davinci or we could put markers on the audio clip to the beat after DR makes the grid and then just use that in the time line instead of cutting the clips like you did in Fairlight? I use an app called BeatmarkX in Final Cut Pro that gives you an xml with the audio with markers to the beat so you can just edit to those markers..? Is it possible to do it this way instead of you way? Can you just add markers on the audio and then when back on the timeline will the audio/Music clip have those markers? Thanks seems tidious to cut the clips in Fairlight instead of the timeline...
You can add markers to the audio, but I don't think it's automated just yet here in Resolve. Hopefully they add that feature here soon. But if that was automated, it would make life easier.
Jason, u r awesome! I really like and enjoy your videos! Just a quick question: My video clips have audio linked and if I move the beginning or the and of my clips in Fairlight just a bit so it hits the beat, it seems I can't move video and the linked audio together. My music is on another track. Cuts are possible, because I would just have to select video and the linked audio clip, but my timeline is already in a finished "rough" edit and I just wanna make most of the clips hit the beat.

Neither "Set Tempo Grid" or the manual "Tempo" provides a fitting grid to use as a reference, even though knowing the BPM of the tracks. Seems not really working for me, but guess I might be doing something wrong... Still easier to just enlarge the view of the wave lines in the EDIT section and use them as a reference.

That crossfade selection gives me this error when I try to use it: "Insufficient handles unable to create crossfade(s)." And I've tried increasing the handles but then get this: "Invalid selection. Unable to create crossfade(s)." 😖
You must not have created enough of a handle, to test it try increasing the handles on both clips far more than you need. Then it should work. If either clip is at the beginning (or end), then it won't be able to extend any further to create the crossfade and you'll get that error message.

Do you want to add a blank track? Right click near the track names and choose add track. Or do you want to add a gap between clips? Just select the clips after the clip w/ Alt. + Y and then click, hold and drag to move all the clips. If you're trying to do something else, can you explain it more? Thanks!
Hi my brother... I upgraded to Davinchi 18. And in davinchi 17, my Izotope Rx8 plugin use to work there. But now in Davinchi Resolve 18, it's not being installed. Even when I go to preferences and add the VST plugin, it's saying that it will update when I close and reopen davinchi, but when I do so, it's not working. Please Help
@@JasonYadlovski Yes my brother, they have changed the settings. Now you no longer can edit the audio in Resolve, you have to bounce it into RX8 and then after you're finished, you bounce it back. But you should really try it my brother, its does an extremely good job with background noise etc. And also, it's more content for you to upload.
Hopefully the fix the issues so you can use it in Resolve again. Seems strange that it wouldn’t work. I’d love to give Izotope a try one day. I hear it’s the best there is. 😜

Hi! Paste attributes, do the following. Select your clip do you want a copy from, use CTRL + C (CMD +C in Mac), then select the clip you want to paste attributes on, the use ALT + V (Option + V in Mac), then you can select whichever attributes you want a Paste onto that particular clip. I hope this helps.
Im unable toget any of these to work lol Cross fade fails every time... Theres no BPM label.. II make my I/O right click the range and yeah completely dif window guess back to audacity the onky functionlap autio tooll..
Is there really no way to pre input and output your clips and let davinci put them automatically on the markers? It is possible in Adobe.. so why not in Davinci? .😒

I'm sorry but Resolve will NOT analyze your BPM. At 6:23 you can see it's not the good BPM, it's drifting. You have to In & Out a part with a known number of bars, with the In and the Out on the beat itself. Then click on "set tempo grid BPM" as you did, and with 1-2-3-4-1-2-3-4 you have to put Nr of bars = 2 because you're in 4/4. Then you're all set 🙂
Sorry (Not going back) but Premiere Pro has this all beat to HELL with their Animate to Sequence that does all this with a few taps of the 'M' key and selecting your Video /Stills & then Select Animate sequence. All Done. E,Z,P,Z. OH did I mention All for $500/ year. DaVinci FREE forever. GTTD bro
Yeah, this is pretty basic but it is encouraging that BMD appears to be going back and covering the basics. There is still way to go IMO, but this is good progress.

There are several great features that are audio only which they desperately need to add for video too. Layered Video Editing is my top one.

If I had 8 people saying the same thing and I wanted to make a combined chorus, would I be using pretty much the same techniques?

Can you add markers to the audio track and then see those on the edit page?
Yes, use the M key to add a marker at the playhead. It will add it to the timeline if you have NO clips selected.
You need to make sure you have enough media to accommodate handles or it won't work.

You’re welcome! The grid might be a little bit easier, but really either way can work.

It might be because you have Clips that have nothing to crossfade with below the clip you’re trying to Crossfade. Just click OK that should work.

On the crossfade gape I get an error saying "Insufficient Handles Unable to create crossfade(s)"
Try shortening the clips by a few frames, then it should drop on there.

The crossfade audio over gap doesn't work. Says its unable to do so. :(

Hi my brother... I upgraded to Davinchi 18.
And in davinchi 17, my Izotope Rx8 plugin use to work there.
But now in Davinchi Resolve 18, it's not being installed.
Even when I go to preferences and add the VST plugin, it's saying that it will update when I close and reopen davinchi, but when I do so, it's not working.
Please Help
Hi! I've never used RX8, but it should work. I don't know why it wouldn't work in 18. 🤔
@@JasonYadlovski Yes my brother, they have changed the settings.
Now you no longer can edit the audio in Resolve, you have to bounce it into RX8 and then after you're finished, you bounce it back.
But you should really try it my brother, its does an extremely good job with background noise etc.
And also, it's more content for you to upload.
Hopefully the fix the issues so you can use it in Resolve again. Seems strange that it wouldn’t work.
I’d love to give Izotope a try one day. I hear it’s the best there is. 😜

sir how can i copy text attributes and paste it on to the other text , firstly when i do it with power bin i cant able to paste attributes on to my other text , secondly when i covert other text into comp clip i cant able to change my text , same thing with text pop up and text shake plz tell how can i fix it
Hi! Paste attributes, do the following. Select your clip do you want a copy from, use CTRL + C (CMD +C in Mac), then select the clip you want to paste attributes on, the use ALT + V (Option + V in Mac), then you can select whichever attributes you want a Paste onto that particular clip. I hope this helps.

Is there really no way to pre input and output your clips and let davinci put them automatically on the markers? It is possible in Adobe.. so why not in Davinci? .😒
They just didn't add the feature yet. I'm sure the feature will be added in time. 😜

I'm sorry but Resolve will NOT analyze your BPM. At 6:23 you can see it's not the good BPM, it's drifting.
You have to In & Out a part with a known number of bars, with the In and the Out on the beat itself. Then click on "set tempo grid BPM" as you did, and with 1-2-3-4-1-2-3-4 you have to put Nr of bars = 2 because you're in 4/4. Then you're all set 🙂

Sorry (Not going back) but Premiere Pro has this all beat to HELL with their Animate to Sequence that does all this with a few taps of the 'M' key and selecting your Video /Stills & then Select Animate sequence. All Done. E,Z,P,Z. OH did I mention All for $500/ year. DaVinci FREE forever. GTTD bro

Yeah, this is pretty basic but it is encouraging that BMD appears to be going back and covering the basics. There is still way to go IMO, but this is good progress.
