I have one, you can't think your way out of depression, you have to act your way out of it. People often wait to feel good or motivated before doing the things they use to enjoy, the motivation rarely comes through. Therefore we have to do those things with the goal being to get the motivation.

i learnt that sometimes letting go friendships is a really good thing. it is hard and sad, but some friendships run its course and it doesn‘t have to be someone‘s fault or because of a single event or a situation. people change, relationships change and people develop and go in different directions in life, especially in their twenties. it is often called 'losing' a friend. however, you had a great time together, made great memories and gained a lot of experience, there is nothing lost. it is difficult to wrap your head around because that person may not be in your life anymore, but they will always have been a part of your life and you as a person and that‘s something to be grateful for.

Can you talk about going going after your dreams and ambitions at an early age? I'm almost 18 and all of my friends get up late, go out late and I'm trying my best to be the best version of myself but I think this would be an interesting topic

Speak on it brother... nothing is cooler than growing old. Being young is wasted on the youth, 30 is your prime. I survived cancer twice and lost half my face to amputation.. a tumor destroyed my jaw and changed everything.. I was labeled a freak. I decided to start over, travel South America and start a youtube channel to inspire others who feel ugly and not good enough for this world.. it's all about energy and mindset.. my scars will not define me. with optimism and positive projection you can overcome any mental or physical hurdle. self love from within overpowers any physical shell! go check me out and subscribe if you want to help me grow. i want to give people a spark of change and join me on my journey!

I’m really glad that you posted this video. I’ve been watching your videos for the last 4-5 years and this came right when I needed it. I was an English teacher in China for a year and then decided that I didn’t want to spend my life being an English teacher. But with this I really discovered that I love living overseas and meeting new people and learning about their cultures. I’ve taken the last 7 months or so off to reevaluate and figure out exactly what I want out of life. I’ve always felt passionate about helping people who are less privileged than me as a white American, so I’ve decided to get into helping refugees. And I’ve since then learned that I need to continue on with my education and get a masters degree. School in America is really expensive, so I know that I want to go somewhere else to get my degree. I’ve been watching your videos and a lot of the other creators from the UK and because of that, I realized I want to go to the UK for school. And since you always are talking about Brighton, I decided to look into programs that are based from there. I discovered that the university of Sussex has like 4 different programs that I’m super interested in and am hoping I get accepted into the program to get that education I need to help people in a meaningful way. I’m really thankful for the unintentional influence you have had in my life because without your videos I wouldn’t even be aware of this potential future path for my life! Keep it up!

Good video Alfie, a lot of the things you said were things I've come to accept in the last couple years as well as I approach my late twenties. One of the most important things I've learned is the power of positive thinking. It's very easy to be cynical about everything, but I realised that this wasn't really doing anything for me other than make me a more negative person. Now I try to flip that on its head every time I'm presented with something, and I feel a lot better as a result, it's so much nicer when you can enjoy things for what they are and not twist it into why it's not good enough.

Great video alf! One thing ive learnt over the years is to not let people stop you from doing what you love. If they are judging you for something they don't like let them because your unique and they just hate because they have problems in their own life and they want to take it out on someone else.

You are my absolute favourite for advice, I really feel like you connect with your audience and understand us completely - you're so real and I really appreciate that! These were really, really helpful and a lot of them will stay with me as I keep on reminding myself to just go and get it. One more piece of advice (or more a phrase that she said) that stuck with me a lot from Ebony Day's "things I've learnt at 25" is "stop getting in your own head, lighten up a little bit and go and have a nice time. Go on." - I absolutely LOVED that! Great video Alfie, really loving your change in content lately :) x

One of my favorite quote to live by is "You can't control the wind but you can adjust your sails.". It really resonates with me. Sometimes life throws things at you and you have to adapt to them the best way possible. It's not always easy but it's always better to try :)

  • @omfgdammitSammy
    @omfgdammitSammy 5 років тому +1

    Things I've learnt :
Empathy - I always try to look at things from someone else's perspective and it's helped me learn a lot about myself and others and socialisation in general.
Always take time for yourself - sometimes I burn the candle at both ends and I have to remind myself I'm only human and need time to reflect and recharge.
Know when to take time away from social media - comparison is the thief of joy and when I'm feeling down I think social media is a massive triggger and doesn't help at all
Mental health is just as important as physical health and they should go hand in hand!

i loved this video. thank you for being such a positive influence on the lives of many many people, alfie.
i've been going through a rough time recently, but i think the more i watch this, the more i'm going to realize that opinions of others really don't matter and that i can and should be proud of myself anyways, no matter how bad of a job i might have done in the eyes of someone else.
the lesson that i've learnt is:
never strive for perfection. it really can ruin you and the most scary thing is, i never really realized that i had the mindset of a perfectionist, that i became one.
and you know, as you said, i could sit around and cry about how unfair this is. but instead i should just accept it and try to manage this the best way possible.
which is tackling that mindset and turning it into a loving and healthy one.
    thank you!

I really liked that video, Alfie. It was so inspirational and just what I needed. One thing I've learned is something my dad told me in 3rd grade "Winners don't do different things, they do things differently." I hope this helps you and anyone else reading this. This is kind of random, but I was rewatching your Sims 4 series with Zoe and I think it would be cool if you could go back and continue it. Thanks! xoxo

I really loved watching this. Been going through a hard time, or so I thought it was, but this really was an eye-opener. Very inspiring, such positive vibes, thank you Alfie. I think your phrase “you’re in control of your own happiness” is one of those sentences that are “easy to say, hard to actually do/apply in real life”. But the truth is, that’s how we always thought of this sentence. That’s how we always perceived it. In reality, it really is not that hard once you think of it. One must realize that THEY are in control of THEIR own lives. They are the ones who can in a matter of seconds make a life changing decision.

I started to write a book about a year ago now and loved the idea and how far I had come but at one point I just locked up and just stopped writing for a while. Well... The a while is now, as I said, a year.
You talking about having a goal motivated me sooo much because I really really want to finish my book because I still think that it is a good idea and I love my characters.
So thank you Alfie for those motivating words that will hopefully help me get back on track and not wonder around like a lost chicken. Loved the video so much and love everything you do

This is a great video. The things you are talking about are so so true and so damn important! It’s so easy to wander through life just “getting by” and never feeling content, hoping one day ‘it’ will fall into your lap. The only way you can get what you desire is by putting the consistent effort and the determination in! Set a goal, break down the steps from where you are now to where you want to be, and take it day by day. Life is so short every moment counts! We got this! 🤟

I will try to rewatch this video whenever I need to remind myself of these things. I struggle with constant anxiety with friends, relationships, dental school, life, everything. This is so important to understand. THANK YOU. I am going to try to implement this in my life as much as possible.

One thing my dad has taught me is to take life "day by day". its very simple and obvious as well, but sometimes I think we forget when we get wrapped up in future notions and get anxious or think too heavy on what will happen? what could happen? what if''s? but if you remember to just live in the present moment and do exactly what you need to TODAY, everything will work out. My dad has also said there is always another day, always another sun coming up after a dark night. so even if you all have had a horrible day, don't stress, because you have the capacity and ability to make tomorrow AMAZING. Hope this helped some of you!

I really appreciate this video. Im going through a lot of changes in my life right now and am feeling a bit lost and this video has given me a bit of direction. These are all lessons I've been telling myself i need to learn and focus on and the fact that you voiced them and made a video about it is exactly what i needed to hear. Thank you, i love these self-reflective advice type videos, id love to hear more advice from you on different topics.

something i've learnt is that you can do anything you set your mind to. believe in yourself and work hard towards the things that make you happy :)
also know that you are beautiful as you are and it is important to be yourself!! x
you are strong even when you don't necessarily feel like you are 🌸

Thank you for sharing these 8 things with us. You are a huge inspiration for me, because you are so caring, open, honest and true to yourself! Whenever you talk about things that are important to you it seems to me that you genuinely have thought about them. I feel like you don't say things just because you think you should. Sometimes I think this had become rare on social media, so I admire you for that.
As you asked us in the end of the video, I want to share something I realized over the past year. Life is like a roller-coaster. There are moments where you feel like everything is getting better and better. Life is going upwards and you can't imagine that it could get worse at some point. Unfortunately it will. Now I experienced it over the last year. There was a time where I felt like everything was perfect and even getting better. At some point I reached the peak and it went down, like a roller-coaster. My life got stressfull and I was just tired and stuff. Then I started thinking of the time before that. That was when I realized that the analogy of the roller-coaster is true. You go up and up and then there is the peak. Now you start going down, but it is okay. Because you know that can't go down forever. There will be a moment where it changes again. You also learn to embrace the good times more. The bad times help you do that.
So yeah, I hope this makes sense. English is not my mother tongue, so I find it hard to explain stuff like this in English.
To anyone having a bad time: I know that it is bad and it sucks. But believe me, it will get better. I promise you, after rain there will be sunshine. You will find your sunshine.

ITS SO IRONIC that his mic dies just after he says about ‘not seeing everything as fair when things go wrong’ I love that 🙈❤️ such a coincidence!

I think you talk a lot of sense. I was diagnosed in 2016 with Fibromyalgia and M.E. Our lives completely changed. We needed councelling, but now I look at the world with my eyes wide open appreciating the small things i was blind to. I started a you tube channel to help others in a similar position to me and it gave me a purpose again. Positivity all the way! 😉

This is why i love watching you and Zoe because you are both down to earth. Nowadays youtubers might just make trendy videos to make money to just buy a car or clothing or whatever.. but you and Zoe you work in your own office you do a lot of things behind the camera .. and also you both do some chatty videos where we all learn new things .. i mena you dont do just trendy videos and the money you make from it you give it to charity or some other stuff! It is so motivating! And also cant wait when you two get married and have kids 😊❤ love you both have a nice day!
