Jason is such a class act! Thanks for having him on. Great show guys!
Aussie represent!
Onya Jase, bloody good episode.
Thanks Dave and Marc, too!
Everytime we get a great guest like this who is another amp expert make me want to try Mr. Egnater's amp building class so bad! Great show as always guys
Even though I’m a player and not a tech, I love this stuff and makes me want to start building things. I’ve watched a lot of Jason’s DIY vids & enjoyed this one….
More nerd talk episodes !🤘🏼
Oh look, another engaging and interesting amp designer/builder who seems like a nice guy...as opposed to one that plays video games during the whole interview (probably to avoid being asked about criminally under valued filter caps and dangerous safety concerns in their overpriced amps)! We need More of these guys like Jason!
Who u talkin about? Ty
@@joehervey84 I'm curious too.

My god, I just modded my plexi thanks to Jason's videos, and it sounds insane. I never thought I'd get a tone like this without having to spend thousands of dollars.I have modded amps ( origin i used to have) before thanks to his channel. I love how he breaks things down that even complete noobs can understand. One day I'm gonna buy a headfirst amp just to say thanks for the knowledge and inspiration to mod that his channel has given me
Great episode! Loved the discussion guys! I have built 6 amps now using Jason’s PCB’s and it has been awesome. A steep learning curve but I’m so glad I put in the effort to try and learn this stuff. Jason has been very generous with his knowledge and the FB group is a great community of helpful guys. Great to see him on the show. Nice of you guys to have him on. So nice to see the camaraderie between amp builders and knowledge being passed on!
The best talk ever! This is what I love!!!!!
Interesting about the wall voltage, UK wall voltage is often around 246v and most US suppliers send amps here wired up for 230v
Mark, please tell me you are having Eddie Lenz on at some point to talk about amp mods and his designs! The guy truly deserves it.
Yes we will! Give us time thanks!
Yeah he's a good one.
@@tone-talk Yes!!! Thanks!
Yes please his amps RIP!
I just discovered this guy and his amps on UA-cam !
That's very cool you had him on !
Reading an amp schematic in YT live. It can't get any geekier than this. Amazing!
Man, Dave running through the Laney AOR circuit is amazing. Im half-way through modding on mine.
What a great show, you guys geek out all you want! Thanks!
Good show guys! It was cool! Marc you're room full of super chat gear is growing big from the first shows you guys did. Jason does awesome work!
Way behind on posting; however. Jason's Origin 20-Watt Mods are absolutely epic. Check out his UA-cam channel and hear for yourselves.
Greatest show of all time
Great episode again guys, please continue to educate and entertain us!
NOT boring at all. Love these episodes.
I'm guilty of spending too much time with a soldering iron in my hands instead of a guitar.
The AOR stuff was great. Wonder who designed that? Would be a cool person to get on the show.
It's cool how Dave never rags on anybody else's shit. Like with the Peavey he said, basically, "For as much of a piece of shit as it looks like it is it sure is bullet proof." LOL
I've been to the Bletchley Marshall factory. The parts come in bins, there are a load of ladies (none of whom play guitar) that populate the boards. They have wave soldering machines. The nicer headboxes are tolexed on site there. They're play tested by a guy that doesn't play guitar. Fun tour, the best part was chatting to their in house service manager to be honest because no one else seemed to be an actual guitarist (production floor manager was just learning when I went)
🤣🤣🤣
Zoiks.
Even though that seems bad, I still think their amps are built well and are pretty reliable. Testing by guitarists would definitely be better though 😅
Great show! The headfirst amps sound amazing.
Great show! Sometimes I don't know exactly what they hell they are talking about, but if I listen enough I'll figure it out and it will sink in!!! 🤣 I have a Runt that Dave modded to be more like a DS mini! He put the tight switch and the deep knob on it! Was lucky enough to catch him early in the pandemic when he was mainly working from home and he suggested the Runt chassis, giving me all features of the Runt but tone like DS.
In regards to the Mig 50 talks. There was a Sovtek Tube Midget head which is what i think the original commenter meant but either way thanks for the info about my Mig 50. So rare to hear people talk about those amazing amps! Great show fellas!
Thank you all for this episode. I really enjoyed it.
That was great! Love the geek stuff.
Great show, great guest! Thank you
Never ending fountain of solid information. Cheers!
More episodes like this pls! Love hearing the players as much as the builders/designers/techs. A guest suggestion: Lyle from Psionic.
Great video! Was awesome to see an Aussie guest on the show.
Have you guys ever had experience with MI Amplification from Sydney, Australia?their Iron Duke is a cool take on the hot rodded Marshall.
This geeky stuff is great I love it 👍👍thank you
This was a great show, loved the part where you went through the Lainey circuit.
This is awsome knowledge thanks Jason for setting this up
Thx, guys. I just play guitar, didn't understand most of it, but it was a great background for me to have a self-indulging noodle. Keep 'em comin'!
Would you ever speak to Lyle, the guy who runs Psionic Audio? He has lately produced some of the greatest guitar amp tech videos anywhere on the internet in my opinion. Would make a really geeky episode
kbkman, your wish has been granted.
I'm here!! Would like 2 see Jim Root on as a guest. Ty
Great Episode
Dave and Mark should start the tone talk band! Producing dark symphonies straight from the realms of hell!
Marc! Get a Bare Knuckle Irish Tour set for your strat! Got a bridge and middle pickup for my Fender EOB strat (has a sustainer in the neck). The tone is fantastic. Play thru a Vox AC30 and a solid state Fender. I would also get BKP's caps and pots :)
This show is the reason Al Gore invented UA-cam !!!
Fantastic show
I have an Alta 100w Headfirst amp and a BE Deluxe. Both killer, but the Alta is used more!
Marc! Your screen is flipped! JK! You have some killer lefties in your collection. Love your show!
Thanks Greg! Lol 😂
Hey guy's! I love the show. It's really been a real eye opener for me. I do have one question though. Where can I find a collection of schematics for the various types of tone stacks? I'm really interested in learning how various companies perform their basic eq sections.
The Laney AOL-series was an amazing amp for the time, but some reason (to keep selling models when customers would get sick of them?), they would "retard" the amps as common with many amp manufacturers imo. In Series I, yes, looks like the 1st gain stage cathode capacitor IS 47uF and 22nF coupler! WAY too much bass going thru. In Series II, they dropped the 47uF to 2.2uF (still quite larger), but INCREASED the coupler to 100n!! As Dave said, you want to lower the bass passing thru, so cathode should be .47uF or .68uF or 1uF. The coupler should be 2.2nF or 3.3nF or 4.7nF.
Thanks for the help!
1:42:00 Marshall built the YJM head with his drive pedal in the circuit.
Did Randall Smith patent the Tubescreamer schematic since they used it in the Triple Crown?
Not sure
I have committed a blasphemy! I have purchased a solid state amp. Got a Quilter Superblock UK, but it is for my backup gigging amp, incase my tube amp that I am using cuts out. It actually is very usable, but I do prefer my tube amps.
Just curious, have you stopped releasing the podcast versions? They’re great for punishing my family on long car rides 😀
No I’ll release them tonight thanks for the reminder! Been a busy month
@@tone-talk No worries, understand completely. Thanks for all you do!
This episode keeps randomly stopping on me randomly to buffer, anybody else getting this problem?
I don’t see that happening. Perhaps shut down and try again?
same here

Dave needs to make videos like Jason. Educate people, share his knowledge to help others.
He should also apologize to Jason for making fun of his business and circuits boards in
An earlier episode of tone talk. Yeah Dave I heard that and remember it. I bet I don’t
Get a little red heart for this comment.
You don’t know what goes on behind the scenes. Don’t assume you do. Dave and Jason are cool, otherwise Jason wouldn’t have come on. Don’t try to make drama where there isn’t. Thanks
@@tone-talk Thats nice if thats the case. But as viewers we have no way of knowing that unless Dave also apologized or told us that up on video. You should have made sure that happened on camera as a good host. I am mot trying to cause drama, just pointing out whats looks to be an unresolved issue that maybe Jason was not even aware of. The situation should have been handled better but I doubt you will agree.
@@buzzedalldrink9131you do have a way of knowing. Jason is on the show. That’s all you need to know. Thanks for watching
@@buzzedalldrink9131 Dave has been helping me behind the scenes. He's a genuine, down to earth guy who has gone out of his way to give me a leg up. I couldn't be more grateful.
To quote Jordan Peterson “ clean your own bedroom before you tell others how they should clean theirs”. Not your place to suggest what they should or shouldn’t be doing
It was a delay from one or 2 open mic’s…
