  • Today I’m going to take you back to basic: RESOLUTION. Nowadays, basic MRI is easily forgotten due to automatically function which is integrated inside the software. Nevertheless, with a strong basic ground of MRI knowledge, nothing can stop you.

    This is a great refresher and helps me understand Siemens better, as used I am using Philips where we change the voxel sizes rather than matrix

    Another great video of course, I think there should be a weekly video like this covering the basics. It's a great refresher for older techs, and for new techs who are having a hard time getting their head around parameter balancing.

      I have been doing apps for about 5 months and automatically doing it for 20 years is very different than trying to teach it!! They want answers as to 'why' and these videos have given me a better way to explain it.

    Hey Bac, Thanks for your practical clip. I totally agree with you how some radiologist always try to request highest base resolution without really looking at the actual quality of images. I also use the interpolation option sometimes, but if you can make a video explaining what it does, that would be appreciated. Thank you.

    Yes it is informative and hope you'll upload more videos. My senior tech used to say that it doesn't matter what technique you are using as long as you'll come up with a diagnostic image. And this video proves it true 👍🏻

    Lovely Video!. I can see you video editing is getting better too.
    I always tend or at least try as much as possible to have a square aqs, gives sharper images but as you said its opinions and there is no right and wrong.

      Thank you. It’s great to see if you can adapt whatever I present here on my channel. In the end of the day Mri is mri. Being able to look across all vendors will strengthen your knowledge as well. Also easier to adapt newer things in the future.

    Good vid...my 2¢ is that interpolation is better with a square voxel and it’s good when you’re patient can hold still but otherwise it can also exaggerate motion.

    Wow that is a great tutorial for resolution and voxels. The Siemens videos on Pep connect are very long, boring and do not go into as much detail to explain the 'why' in a way that most people can understand.

    I noticed that when you mage changes by doing "copy image position" Time 2:48 seconds the phase direction has changed automatically from H > F to A > P. then you changed back to H > F. my queston is why the machine made this change?. Thank you so much . also if you can do video about the use of phase and frequency direction that's would be nice.thank you

      Correct. Because the image you copy to have this phase encoding direction. So it just follow that direction. It’s bad but it’s like that for the software. So be careful to take a final look before applying.

    Do you use 100% phase res for most scans now since it gives the best quality? It's interesting how the original sequences from Siemens often set at 70-80% right?
    How about slice res for 3D scans? Do you normally change it much?

      Yes 2D tse i always stay at 100%. Square as possible. For 3d scans it depends on sequence and area of interest.

    Hi Bac, I'm new to mri. The way you explained resolution was very informative. Does this apply to whatever part of the body you are scanning ?

      Yes this apply to every sequences. Resolution is fundamental when it comes to optimising a sequence. So this is very basic and don’t worry If you don’t understand MRI basic the first time you read. Just keep going and eventually you will understand a bit by bit which makes the fully puzzle complete one day. MRI is ongoing learning. Never stop learning. Just ask anyone who worked many years with MRI. Always something new to learn. I wish you all the best and keep going. Don’t give up. ☺️
