They did this number because Chris deserves a Tony many times over. He was fantastic in the role and to think he's 6'2 and did this all on his knees is nothing short of incredible. He deserved the recognition.
You can ask the Farquad in my theatre group. What basically happens is that you move your knees really quickly back and forth as if you're walking, and it may look a little silly but it's what makes Farquad, well, Farquad. And trust me, you WILL need knee pads. I'm not a Duloc Dancer but I can't stand being on my knees for more than 10 minutes.
DarkwingsDesending Trust me, it's incredibly difficult but you get used to it. I played Farquaad in my theatre's performance and with the right knee pads and amount of ibuprofen it's fun.
+Ronan Halstead I saw the UK tour version too, he didn't seem to be that tall? At the curtain call he came out on his feet and not on his knees, he seemed quite small even standing.
Broadway lover 123 That and the kneepads are actually very cool. They have almost have hyrdaulics in them as well. It'll wear him out fast but they take care of his knees quite well. :)
They most likely r bc they also don't want his knees smashing on the floor imagine him getting onto the stage and immediately hearing *BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM* as he is singing ya know
@@toxicmegacolon69 At the end of Wicked, I think Elfaba‘s final singing line is “is ever gonna bring! Me! DOOOOOWWWWNNNN!” So they parodied that with the end of Farquad’s song. 😅
@@bruce2760 yeah they did. The “ahhhaaaaa” bit at the end is a direct copy of the wicked musical where the witch does the exact same “ahhhhaaaa” at the end :)
if you think about it all the dancers are really small, like the one he dances with is like the same size, but he is on his knees and she is standing normally
I'm both an actor and a techie for mics and sound board. It's upsetting as an actor when one person's Mic is louder during a chorus number, and as a techie there is a simple solution. Hit the button to turn off the Mic and then turn it on before she speaks, or turn it down. Whatever floats your boat.
Oh hell no. My legs would be dead if I had to dance around like that even if I had knee pads on and with the time of exercising. Respect to the actors who can pull off this role
Oh my Lord I have amazing respect for Mr. Christoper Sieber what a great sport he has to be on his knees the whole show. It's sad Shrek The Musical only lasted a year I'd loved to have seen it on Broadway, tears.
epicmaddie I know that was hilarious. Having my uncle Tim play first trumpet and in charge of the orchestra for Wicked in Chicago. I was blessed to go backstage and meet the actress who played Elphiba. So yes of course I can appropriate the reference.
Little rando fact: My old highschool english teacher is a huuuuuuge theatre person and is the reason I went into theatre for college. He's the first highschool director to have gotten the rights to perform this musical!
I have a few things to say about this. 1. That "wicked" ending was awesome! (Play on words...) 2. I can never look at Shrek the same way again... I started to feel light headed...
Imagine being super excited to perform in Broadway, your dream ever since you were a child and then finding out you play Lord Farquad in shrek the musical 😂
This performance at The Tony’s alone should have won Chris a Tony. Good lord not only did he sing the crap out of that song, he did while dancing around on his knees.
I'm so mad the sound people messed up during this performance. Minus that, it was phenomenal! It really showcased how good the ensemble members are, which I think is important. This probably wasn't the best song to do, but they've already done the other obvious ones on other shows. But hey, they rocked it and that's all that matters!
I like this and Chris is brilliant, but I love "Who'd I be". I think that it gives the show something much more real and deep to the story book characters and leaves the audience with something they can relate to. I did this show last September and it truly was such a fun and uplifting show. An absolute must see!
Shrek The Musical was so great :). I think you have had to seen Wicked to get the last joke when he sings "and no one's going to bring me down" and then sings like Elphaba does in wicked :). Thanks for posting this.
Luke Falciani "Nothing's gonna bring me down! AAAAAAAAH!" sounds like thr end of "Defying Gravity". In the Nextflix version of the show, a green light even shines on Lord Farquaad, somewhat confirming the reference.
i had a workshop with one of the actors in the musical and Lord Farquad actually is only on his knees for about 6 minutes overall in the whole performance, usually he's just normal height. it's all in the costume that makes him look smaller.
LOVE the Wicked reference! For some reason, when I saw the show the first time in London (Kimberley from Girls Aloud was Fiona) we didn't have it. Then I saw it a 2nd time (Carley Stenson was now Fiona) and it was there! I wish it had been in the show from the get go, it's brilliant!

"Short". I see what you did there
Katy Lynn Patterson nothing SHORT! ha
So glad that didn't go unnoticed.
short.haha!
Truly wonderful!
I get so used to him being that short, when he stands up to run back to the castle in so uncomfortable
This whole thing is so violently uncomfortable I feel like it's a fever dream
at the end of the musical he gets on his feet to dance to the last song, I was scared
Who ever came up with this man being on his knees to perform is genius!
+MBCrusin He came up with it himself and immediately regretted it lol
The leg/arm width ratio is cringy
+Ciara.Chaya It was like that in the movie.
Bo Dewsnap who ever said King George the III was short.
Bo Dewsnap excuuuuuuussssee me?!?!?!?!?!
Wow, I'm shocked he did that all on his knees. That's amazing! I mean he was moving quite quickly at some times.
