If you were curious to know, the bird in the koi pond at the temple is a Grey Heron, Ardea cinerea. It's very closely related to the Great Blue Herons you see in the USA, the only real difference is the color of the flanks, I believe. I slowed down the video and I could see a lot of contrast between the flight feathers and the rest of the wing, the only other possible large heron like that would be a Purple Heron which wouldn't have the strong contrast.
In Japanese it would be アオサギ or Aosagi :)

The name of the pastry you sampled that looked like a pita pocket is actually called a Dorayaki which is typically stuffed with azuki or red bean paste but the one you tried had added cream and strawberry which looked delicious! Fun fact: Dorayaki was also the reason why Doraemon was called Doraemon (he loved the stuff)

Believe me, especially on morning Shinkansen, a few Japanese businessmen uncles are really tripping about minuscule noise. Couple of times I had to eat my breakfast breads on the bullet train, which are wrapped individually in plastic of course, this businessman sitting in front of me got up and turned around and gave me a look. I just ignored him.

Mikey, I'm pretty sure you won't be the last not to realise that Fukusaya castella cake has a layer of paper underneath it only when you put it in your mouth (I know I did that the first time too). Still one of the most amazing cakes I've ever eaten. I tried a couple of other brands but they paled in comparison. Fukusaya have been making them the same way since the 17th Century, so I think they've got it perfected.
