Unicorn Overlord Switch Review

- I have a soft spot for both Strategy and RPGs and absolutely adore games like the Fire Emblem series. But what if there was a game that somehow went even more in-depth to provide a real-time strategy / RPG experience while telling a story of war, treachery, and most important of all... hope? Unicorn Overlord is the latest offering from Vanillaware, a developer with a solid pedigree in crafting deep worlds with well-thought-out gameplay, and admittedly, is the first game I have played from them. What's It Like? Check your battle maps, select your units, and march forward as we review Unicorn Overlord for Nintendo Switch.

nice review, I'm gonna start this game once I finish playing The Diofield Chronicles another great RTS on the Switch..
I haven't played The Diofield Chronicles, what's it like?
@@whatsitlikeau RTS pause/play combat, its hard to explain ahaha it has a demo on the Switch try it maybe you will like it..
This game is phenomenal!! Vanillaware never misses!!
Yeah it's incredible. Highest score I've ever awarded.
I wana buy it, but I have purchase paralysis on getting it for switch or ps5
Can't go wrong either way.
@kevinbrown5370 I get it 100% If it helps I don't accept paid promotions as it's a conflict of interest, and I always disclose if I get a review copy when I say the score. I hope you enjoy the demo and the game as much as I did!
Agreed. This will be a beloved classic for decades. Its a shame they don't make more SRPGs of this quality.
It's my first game like this and I'm addicted. Can't wait to get my reviews out and play it some mors
@@whatsitlikeau If you don't mind retro graphics, Ogre Battle March of the Black Queen (the game this one is a spiritual successor too) is very good as well. Because few as they are, these games always leaving you wanting more when you finish them.
Graphics dont mean much to me as I'm a bit old school myself and absolutely loved playing the re-release of Golden Sun. I'll see if I can track down Ogre Battle. What platforms is it on?
@@whatsitlikeau SNES and PS1 had a remaster, but people seem to prefer the OG one.
Thanks for that. I'll add it to the list. I'm loving all these recommendations!
I actually purchased Unicorn Overlord (on Switch) instead of Dragon's Dogma 2. 4 (now 5) hours melted away tonight! It's such a captivating game! 10/10 Unicorns 🦄
It's such a great game. Very well written, interesting mechanics, and it's not bogged down with exposition. Glad you're enjoying it!
Just played it for 20 hours or so. I can't remember the last time I had this much fun with an RTS game. Vanillaware has wholly nailed this game (once again)
I didn't know what to expect going in and I was blown away!
Honestly with its portability the switch version a big w
Yeah I love portability even at the cost of compromises. Thankfully the Switch version looks and runs great
Definitely check out 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim when you can from them. A phenomenal visual novel/Strategy RPG game from them.
I certainly will now. I don't know what I've been missing!
Loving it so far
I found it didn't wear thin my entire time playing it
@@whatsitlikeau i only just now did the main mission for my first encounter with the big bad. but ive ran around and did pretty much everything i could until that point. was running around in lv 12 areas as a lv6 lmao really having fun
I really loved how some battles were grand with multiple towns, and some were quick with a frantic time limit. Very well done game!
@@whatsitlikeau I accidentally found the final battle last night the battlefield is HUGE
It does seem interesting but honestly with the Elden Ring DLC just around the corner, $60 is a steep price tag. I'll wait for it to go on sale before purchasing.
Its definitely the most expensive game I've ever purchased that's not a collectors edition, But honestly it's easily the best game I've reviewed on Switch. That being said Elden Ring was something else!
I can recruit every character? Can I recruit the good guy Gaston who was protecting his fief by rationing food early on?
Ah nope sorry. I meant to say you can recruit every *recruitable* character in game. Thanks for pointing that out, I'll edit the review on the website.
GREAT GAME 💯👍
Hands down, the best game I've reviewed in my time.
I'm feeling like the fact they paid EVERY gaming channel to praise this game is a red flag, tbh.
I never got the cheque I suppose? There's a free 5 hour demo if you want to try it yourself but I can assure you I paid full retail for my copy from EB Games. I think it's just a great game in this case.
Goty caliber
How about trying the demo and doing this amazing thing called 'forming your own opinion'
I do get some people being cautious though it is a fantastic game.
@whatsitlikeau Fairplay, it's just really weird being so apprehensive about something you can try for 5+ hours...steam doesn't even give you that long to do a refund. 😅
localization ruined this game.
How so?
I'm also keen to know. It seems very well written when I played it?
