And the only reason people like me didn’t like 3 was because it literally ran away from what the series was built on and abandoned the storyline that BUILT THE SAINTS. I’ll never understand that shit…

The Saints Row reboot was FREE last month, and it still didn't make me wanna get it.
Which is a shame, because I loved SR2 and played SR3 to 100% several times. Hearing Volition closed up and Saints Row effectively died lowkey hit me a little bit.
Saints Row 2 felt a little more chaotic than 3 just fucking around in free mode. I don’t think I’d say The Third elevated EVERY good aspect of the first 2 games.
Saints Row 1 and 2 felt more gangster than the rest of the games but I still enjoyed SR3 and SR4 but I agree Saints Row deserved better
I dont care how much hate I get. I liked Saints Row more than GTA. I've never cared for story driven games with a set character because I feel like im just playing a interactive movie. I only ever played GTA 4 and got bored with it very quickly, but I have such fond memories of Saints Row 2. In middle school my friend would come over almost every weekend and we each created characters and would switch off every few hours. We played the whole game together and it made for some wonderful memories. We did the same thing with Borderlands co op on the 360. Listening to the radio station in SR2 got me into 80s new wave. Whether or not it was a great game it created memories for me that will last forever. GTA never did that.

When skyrim showed up I screamed bc you don't know how many times i've angrily played it waiting for a new game just bc skyrim is the best option rn. It was my obsession that is now turning bored after 5 plays. A glitch glitched me so bad i had to stop and try all over again
solid video man and ill be real, your video has helped me see the older SR games in a different light, i was pretty young when i played them for the first time so i didnt appreciate alot of the features in them and now i lowkey wanna go back and play... also you admitted you admitted you liked british people and im not letting you live that down

For me the thing that's the biggest strength of Saints Row vs GTA, is that while the GTA games can have good stories and characters, they're each pretty standalone, unless you got DLC you knew that 1 game was likely the last time you'd see that set of characters, so they had to be pretty meaty stories which GTA V accomplished, but Saints Row is great int hat despite playing the same custom character each game the Boss asctually managed to have some kind of development and personality, going from a mute dude who did what he was told in SR 1, to SR 2 where they became a leader in their own right but was kind of violant and psychotic and often angry (You would eb if you woke up from a danm coma and found all you loved nearly gone). To SR 3 where they mellowed out from all the celebrity status they had, enough that they were willing to let Viola join the Saints and let Mat Miller live despite these 2 being leaders or hgh ranking members of the Syndicate, Boss also took into the Saints basically anyoen useful or who wanted to join, but still had a vengeful drive for those who wronged the Saints like Philipe and Killbane. SR 4 had the Boss mature a bit more by becomign President, and this time take revenge on Zinyak for Earth's destruction. Saints Row as a series also makes it so rewarding storywise to binge ALL of the OG games, as SR 4 has so many references too the past games that anyoen picking it up for ther first game or who maybe started with SR 3 but not 1 or 2 wouldn't get the references or recognize the past characters. Plus the gameplay overall in all of them is just so fun.

I've never been a fan of Saints Row, but I've always hated the "GTA clone" narrative every open world game gets. From Crackdown to Saints Row to Sleeping Dogs, everyone always describes these games as "imagine GTA but [insert setting or protagonist role]." The latter is the most painful bc Sleeping Dogs is one of my favorite games of all time. I feel like the constant comparisons to GTA, combined with the fact that GTA was slated to release the year after Sleeping Dogs release, contributed to us never getting a sequel or the cancellation of the online mode they were working on.

I really want someone to buy Saints Row IP and bring back the original saints and make it a openworld RPG, really dialling up the creativity of having different character builds with many different endings and play styles. Basically Skyrim meets GTA type game would be amazing. Modern day Cyberpunk without the bugs and third person gameplay akin to Just Cause mayhem.
With turf wars, would go hard.

Reusing assets is not a problem at all. I don’t understand why it makes people angry and how devs are expected to make a completely fresh landscape every time. You have to reuse assets to an extent for game franchises to keep their identity. I look at it as an extension, for example we play Fallout 3 getting used to it then we get Fallout New Vegas, we are already familiar with it what is the problem? If every game in the same franchise had brand new assets it would make the games feel like they have nothing to do with each other.
All of these games are so much better for sharing DNA aka assets;
F1+2, F3+NV, F4+76, SR1+2, SRtT+4+GOoH, Borderlands 1+2+3, GTA III+VC+LCS+VCS+SA, GTA IV+V.

19:32 I don't really care about the animations or other irrelevant things being reused but it is disappointing that 4 lazily copy pasted the map from 3 because there were very few new areas to explore (contrasting a lot with how 2 used the map from 1 but added a ton of new content)
I don't think it's fair to say they lazily copy and pasted the map. They expanded on it, as well as added and changed lots of areas. I see where you're coming from but I think they did more than that.
God I loved saints row sm as a kid no one else knew what it was bc they all played gta and I feel like saints row rlly built my humor and style.

I like the OG series of Saints Row. My friend showed me the game and I liked it alot. But after seeing that trash ass reboot it sucked
dont wanna be that person but i didnt like battle field😅😅but I did love all the old saints row games never ever played/bought the new one.
The series lost me after Saints Row 3; which itself was a sloppy, loosely-constructed, mess of cringe dialogue, forgettable characters, godawful pacing, absurd gimmicks, and try-hard sequences... but at least it _does_ contain a certain amount of fun. SR4 and beyond was just too much of a departure from what got me into 'The Row' in the first place. Data clusters? Alien invasions? Super powers? FFS, what happened? Then comes the "Reboot" where our criminal motivation stems from an afternoon luncheon with some hipster roommates about paying rent and student loans. RIP Saints Row.

*whoever buys the rights to Saints Row needs to immediately contact the production crews from SR2 and AOM and begin work on a Saints Row game that's a loose remake of 1 and 2. rebuild modern day Stillwater. add new missions and side activities. add characters (preferably Jezebel from GOH and Daisy from AOM). add a dating show FOR THE LOVE OF GAT where female contestants travel the world and participate in death games for a date with gat. just give us the ONE SAINTS ROW GAME we all want and end the franchise.*

sr3 had it's success because of sr2. That's not disingenuous it's facts, that game sucked! Replacing the food and drug weel with throwables that you literally could've kept on the main weapon weel. No day and night cycles, city was dead and boring.. so many things bout that game was trash.. Zemos was annoying as hell, the story was shit sr3 was the begining of the end of the franchise.
Sr3 was bad but when the reboot came it made sr3 and sr4 look better but my biggest problem with saints row is it got repetitive every game after sr2 was always restarting you always had to restart the gang for some reason when I feel like after sr2 sr3 should have been focused on finding dex since we already found and killed Julius in sr2
