What is really amazing is Sharon bouncing around on stage after singing for two and a half hours. The woman is the Energizer bunny. She has a beautiful delicate voice. You should do the duet "Somewhere" from this concert that she did with Anneke van Giersbergen (the Queen of Dutch Metal) because it is amazing.
When Status Quo invited a part orchestra to join them on an acoustic set, the band members said it scared the f*** out of them. Firstly, many songs had to be written with a different tempo. Then all music had to written down with notes. They said, that on an electric set, they play to the beat of the drummer and rhythm guitarist, but with an orchestra, if they missed a bit, the orchestra would march on regardless. Highly recommend you watch Night of the Proms, on UA-cam. Each year, rock and metal bands in London, play with a full orchestra, and almost every time the orchestra looked as bored as shite. When Status Quo played Night of the Proms, and did Rocking All Over the World and Whatever You Want, the whole orchestra (the London or National Philharmonic ?) got so totally into it, you could clearly see their immense enjoyment on their faces. They had around 100,000 in the audience, and it was one huge party. At first, the orchestra let the band play, but by the second verse it became a competition who could play the loudest. Final score: 2:0 to the orchestra !! Despite walls of amplifiers, when the brass and woodwind sections kicked in, they drowned the band ! It was so hilarious. Much respect to the orchestra. I think with Within Temptation, they have a conductor, to merge the two genres.
I was there, it was in 2008 so yeh not much camera phones and about the filming, if i remember well there were like 15 different cameras to film the concert. It was a blast!
When Status Quo added a full orchestra on occasions, they had to provide the "professional musicians that can read music (Francis Rossi's own words) with sheet music" so the brass, woodwind, drums, strings etc. knew when to come in. Here with Within Temptation, the orchestra has a conductor, and Sharon gives ques with her hand gestures, if you watch carefully. In the band Queen, the late Freddie Mercury, used to give hand signals too, to Roger Taylor and the gang when to stop playing, so that everyone stopped together and not out of sync. Usually in a conventional rock band, the members all knew the tune, it is well-rehearsed, and the drummer and bass guitar do the beat. Hope that helps.
hi ruby here , yes i have this dvd and now i want to rewatch it lol they need more love everyone only talks about nightwish but i like within temptation more 😅 some more requests jillian (id give my hear) , our solemn hour, paradise (what about us?), mother earth, deciever of fools, and many more ill prob send another request love your reactions !
I think every metal fan knows two bands for sure, Within Temptation and Nightwish those are leading the lasts decades like crazy and they are huge around the world.
I was there, great memory, went all the way with a big dress , hoop and wig, makeup the whole shaboom. It's even the other way around , not that long ago the orchestra asked the public which fusion they wanted , I don't remember what band made it, but Ayreon was second. I don't know if you know something about Night of the Proms or is this a European thing. Saw meatloaf with a great orchestra and of course mister Music is my first love, John Miles who is always there.
Nightwish in fact asks people to keep their phones in their pocket, and enjoy the show real-time. By and large people comply... The Ahoy Hall in Rotterdam has about 15000 people capacity.
How many people have to tell you to watch "Somewhere" from this band and orchestra ? It will remind you a little of the duet Floor Jansen did with Epica. (All four are Dutch singers by the way)
You should check out Apocalyptica, if you wanna see what classical instruments and metal can do. Apocalyptica is a Finnish Metalband with 3 chello's en drums. It a must see if your curious about metal and classical instruments
There is definitely a other way we (Dutch) approach promises. If someone promises something it is not only what you promise, how and the quality you bring your promises alive is very important. I think that this more a European approach. Belgiums and Germans are very strong in this as well. Furthermore, technical abilities are exploited to the maximum. The metropole orchestra is extremely capable in everything the are involved in. I have seen them in combination with Steve Vai, “exceptional in excellence!” Doesn’t care if it it your taste of music, simple extraordinary.
Please also check mother earth from the same concert or from the concert in Belgium. Btw the metropole orchestre plays all kinds of music, if you want to see more of the orchestre check the north sea jazz festival where they accompany many world famous singers and musicians
Some musicians are enthused, others get disdainful, but they all like the paycheque. In this case, the conductor approached the group with the idea, so I assume the orchestra was on board. Then the conductor usually creates a score by listening to the songs. maybe collaborating with the person who did the arranging in the group. Then the orchestra will probably have a run through of the piece, then they have a dress rehearsal the day before with the band. You basically ignore what is going on, and just concentrate on the conductor
But who pays for the orchestra? Within Temptation? Or is it a percentage of the ticket sale? I have no idea how that is arranged. By the way, I would have a hard time reading the music and keeping an eye on the conductor and still play flawlessly. Whatever instrument (I played trumpet in my youth).
The Metropole Orchestra is a Dutch orchestra founded 75 years ago, all full professional musicians. Orchestra is owned by the Dutch Brooadcasting company NPO and really world famous. They play everywhere and all genres from pop to classis and all in between. Really top class!! www.mo.nl/en/the-orchestra
Highly combustible, the stiff Dutch people get very worked up when a massive party can be held. No matter if it is music, a guy swimming for 200 km or speedskating, soccer tournament, a Formula 1 race, the Eurovision song contest, whatever. So that is also true for ochestra's. They like the performance, the atmosphere. Maybe even better than when they are playing classical music (what they also do to perfection, by the way).
Great reaction as usual! Thanks You should react to 'Enter Sandman' from a Metallica 1991 concert in Russia... 1.6 million(!!!) people in the audience. You'll have to see it to believe it 😀
Snowglobe!!! They have done an other concert in which they also have this complete performance. Audioly and visualy. The Elements concert in Antwerp. It has an five and a half minute intro so i skipped to the fifth minute: First song is Iron and it is a massive and epic start: ua-cam.com/video/KuMB2pTsZP0/v-deo.html
I was at this concert... it was great Most large sympgonic metalbands ( withintemptation, epica, nightwish e.o.) already work with a n orcestra in recording albums, so it is not uncommon for the orcestra to play with these bands.Epica performed live with the same orcestra they recorded with... Withintemptation played with this orcestra in ahoy...this concert...and some time later in antwerp.
Whitin temptation is a band how was famous world wide whiteout being in the global charts. Even in there home land (holland) it tokes a while before they got the respect they earn. Thats the same and iam shamed to say it whit floor Jansen only after her appearing in De Beste Zangers we Dutch people learnd about floor. If she didn't do that nobody in Holland know the band Nightwish. Strains isn't it. 🙈
This song was made for crowd participation! Glad you're on this WT ride. I've played in a concert band, like an orchestra but with more woodwind instruments rather than strings, (clarinets in place of violins) and there are pre-written arrangements for a great deal of music for such bands. We played with a Fleetwood Mac cover band and a Beatles cover band. Bands like WT, Epica or Nightwish often write "orchestral arrangements" for the many voices of a synthsizer (or three!) - although Tuomas and Mark Jansen, for example, prefer real orchestras! Bands pay extra to be allowed to confetti a venue - to cover the clean up costs! There is a great fan-made clip for WT's "Let Us Burn" ua-cam.com/video/5DBuIhr1Id4/v-deo.html
I think at every venue they play they get professional orchestra people to come play. Which in itself must be super difficult. Rehearsal, especially when on tour is IMO impossible. If you only play one venue for a week or something then it can work, changing the orchestra every new place you visit will be difficult.

Yes Somewhere! "Most beautiful duet ever":-)
My all time favorite band! Always has been, always will be! Since 1999
T love your reaction man amazing
What a show. And Sharon has a angel like voice and a smile matching. I have seen them in Antwerp. Fu.... amazing.
Within Temptation is magical. And the Metropole Orchestra is one of the best orchestras in the world. They are used to play also modern music.
Saw them live here in Argentina twice...they are awesome. ..Sharon is marvelous....
ICE queen is their classic song to end the shows..💕

the cross song from this concert was fab.
When the Ice Queen is coming, it has to snow, don't you agree? Hence the confetti ❤🤍💙 Great reaction, man.
Another great concert where the singer was sick during recording. You can hear it in the performance but she still gives a great show.
love it both song and reaction but abt that confetti ( dixie chicks actually made it snow in a concert hall during the song cold day in july)
It's an honour for the Metropole orchestra to play with Within Temtation
Wow baby face 😊
Another amazing band
Thank you
❤️
I've been to a Within Temptation concert and in November I'm going to a Nightwish concert. I can not wait !
I was there, great memory, went all the way with a big dress , hoop and wig, makeup the whole shaboom. The "Elements" live show is amazing. The whole show is up on YT - so do not miss it!!
thats how it works :P ... the band write the music ... gives it to the orchestra and they live happily after
Love WT my neighbor Ruud (the one with the hair) is playing 🎸 😊🤘🏼

That arena probably held about 10,000 people. I think it was the Ahoy arena in Rotterdam, but experts may correct me
Please also check mother earth from the same concert or from the concert in Belgium. Btw the metropole orchestre plays all kinds of music, if you want to see more of the orchestre check the north sea jazz festival where they accompany many world famous singers and musicians
Yes Ahoy, capacity 16k :-)

I’ve seen them with Tori Amos in Amsterdam, so they play with a wide variety of genres.
im still salty for not going to this one 13 years later

Seen'em 3 times in Spain: twice in Madrid, another one in Gernika. Not so bombastic as this one, but fine, clean, enjoyable sound.
