I was lucky enough to meet Luis into a night bar in Lyon while he was touring with Collins in 1997 ;
The guy invite me to come to the rehearsal the next day and because I couldn’t go to the show that’s night ; they offer me to come the Sunday in the arena of Genève
Very nice people great memory !
Luis if you ever read this … Havana Cafe / Lyon
Garcia’s por todos !
Lifelong Genesis fan but first time hearing this version. Freaking fantastic!
What a drummer
Phil Collins is a fantastic arranger!!!! Unbelievable beautiful and I love the tempo of this version. This piece is so complex and outstanding rich.
Magic. Just found this on 3 November 2022!
Phil Collins was my first drummer that I aspired too. Still one of my favorites.
Omg Prog big band !!!! God Bless you Phill!!!! Nathan East !!!Sanborn!!!
I remember watching Genesis playing this live and how beautiful it was. This arrangement with Conte’ and monster band is a dream concert I wish I could have been there. The arrangement is AWESOME. So glad we have this performance to enjoy.
❤these guys all blew my mind!🤯 superb! 🎉
Who ever said "thumbs down" needs to check themselves. Thank you for an awesome post Canale ;-)
I m happy YT recommended this piece of art, PC legacy!
Genesis music is timeless. They'll still be playing it 100 years from now using
an all-android orchestra.
As a big fan of Genesis and Phil Collins, how did I not know this existed!?
This song is timeless and the big-band-dress suits it. Huge talent on stage a, not to forget David Sanborn on sax.
its funny how your love of a musician takes u from one post to another to then discover a classic like this. i mean i only came on youtube tonight to chec out nathan east and i go and discover this genesis gem
Absolutely great version jazzed up
Algoritms aren't all bad! 😛
Seen Genesis twice but first time I've seen this, real good 👍
Fan bloody tastic. Always live this by Genesis. Just goes to prove a great song is great in whatever style it's played.
This is the best thing Phil Collins ever did. Truly Brilliant!!!!!!!
All about opinion but Selling England or any Brand X for me. Having said that, whatever he did (drumming wise) is ok by me..
The drum precision timing is insane ...get well soon dear phil and thanks for your entertaining performance
that's what i was telling about! Timing out of this world..
"...Get well, soon?!?!?!" Replying from 2021. What was wrong with Phil? Why "Get Well?" (Caught COVID early, and am only now able to process what's going on in the world, over a year later. [COVID's a _bitch!_ Wear a mask!] Will Google Phil to see what's been up with him.
Incredible! I love that Nathan East always looks like he’s having the time of his life!
Bassist Nathan East has played on literally hundreds of albums by musicians of every stripe over the course of an extremely successful career that dates back to his teenage years, when he played as part of Barry White's Love Unlimited Orchestra.

Absolutely great version! Perfect example of the musical quality of Jazz Rock /Fusion music in the 70s. Ever heard of Brand X with Phil Collins? Check it out...
Even David Sanborn on Sax is in here!!! Wow.... but so sad Phil is sick, he is one of my all time best musicians (despite his solo era - joke)
juxtaposeism that was no joke It made me a fan due to his solo Phase along with many others I have just about all his songs n albums he's the greatest.
Luis Conte is a king of percussions
I think people forget that Phil's a drummer first, everyone should check out Brand X, his fusion band from the 70s their killer! I love this version of Los Endos!
I grew up listening to early Genesis, Deep Purple, Zeppelin etc, inc Brand X and I am also a drummer, and I can say that the average person doesn't have a clue that PC is not only a drummer, but one of the all time greats! He had that magic blend of technique, feel and perfect application that make for the best music. Brand X highlights his ability perfectly for me! Nuff said!
I love Brand X. Used to be a daily listen on vinyl for me!
@@paulblanshard9336 Phil had a very jazzy way to play rock; in front of the beat, behind the beat. He could even swing the beat. An amazing musician.
@@paulblanshard9336
Let's not forget Bill Bruford and his fusion group. The Feels Good to Me album is a masterpiece. Band mates Allan Holdsworth (amazing guitarist), Jeff Berlin (phenomenal bassist), and Dave Stewart (awesome on the keys) round out the mix.
I SEEN HIM WITH BRAND X AT THE TOWER THEATER.
If i was there, i could not stay in my chair and listen.. Stand up and dance audience.
Some of my favorite Bands played in Montreux. Yes, Frank Zappa, and now I see the WDR BB with Genesis music. No question left, Genesis music is so great.
6:25 is beautiful. can you feel the energy. Phil is the best.
Jesus, this is fantastic!
Michael Haller yes Nathan East
Well here's a surprise and an exciting too. A genesis composition for a different audience? Outstanding musicianship.
Thanks for posting this great performance! Phil is the Man! Nice to see Daryl Stuermer, Nathan East, and Luis Conte in there doing what they do best. I appreciate all the horn section...amazing!
What a wonderful arrangement of a much loved Prog classic! Collins was terrific as was the great Mr. East using a 6 string bass there but Daryl Stuermer nailed it for me...what a fabulously under rated guitarist he is...superb!
Prince
Incroiable
Unbeliveabley
@@adriaanstam4953 Unbelievably - uneducated Dutch
Nathan Beast killing it as always
Brilliant.
Needs more cow bell :D No seriously, this is a joy to watch, anything with Phil Collins in it, really.
You had me at "more cow bells," but more Phil is always a treat.
Phil Collins, uno de los mejores bateristas de todos los tiempos.
Amen👑
it's wonderful
Quincy and another masters of univers !!!
absolutely incredible music. Had not PG left probably G would have never produced this timeless masterpiece. Thank god he left, thank god!!! I love the mexican trumpet twist, Los endos opens to so many variations on the theme, I never forget the first time I listened to it in 1975 WOW!! It is definitely the piece I always listen with much pleasure and it always puts me in a good mode. Thanks for broadcasting it!!!
Great version what a band of great musicians so tight phil shame he's lost it now with his ill health but how good has he been over the years 👍
Simply Amazing!!!!
Oh wow! for anyone who still thinks that Phil Collins is just a singer, check out this "big band" live recording of a classic Genesis track "Los Endos". No vocals, just the the talent of the musicians - plus, of course Phil (& Luis) stunning rhythm backing.
So many people do not realise he was a drummer first (but actually he was a child actor even before that - he played the Artful Dodger in the London west end production of "Oliver".
Really, really enjoyed this so much, the only thing that troubled me, BLOODY ADVERTS interupting the best parts at a vital moment.
Truly, very nice arrangement and played on a very high-end BB-level! Liked the percussion and drum section very much. Phil is damn good, and so is the rest of the WDR-BB!!
fantastic version
Wow. Phil. Just wow. He is Genesis
nice basslines nathan east my idol
Rare! Phil Collins Big Band: Los Endos - Nathan East - live Jazz Festival 1996.
totally awesome Phil blows the lid off with this.
Nathan East is a superb bassist.
Incredible. Phil please heal up and come back.
Yes please! Get well soon Phil. You're the best!!!
He's back!!
I love Mr. Phil Collins so much !!!
While my guitar gently weeps, as my Ipad battery gently dies, I'm listening to Los Endos. Heaven.
Love Daryl's tone in this performance
LOVE the Genesis original. But from 7.06 this really takes off. Great.
That beautiful roll at the end of the solo. Seen also made by Simon Phillips
a f....n amazing ..
Funny to see Phil's drum kit for the big band being the same as his (then) usual kit, just with resonance heads on toms and 50s style outer coating. Looks great. Georgeous horn voicing and a great new inserted latin-style part starting at 6:50. Mucially this is pure perfection, but the best "Los Endos" version is still from the 1977 Genesis tour (just my taste). Phil Collins is and always was brilliant - he is self taught! Forget his 80s stuff. He had a chance to make money and took it. I would.
Awesome arrangement, complete with the build and drama of the original.
with the Classy Drums of Phil COllins is over the top!
Phil Collins is a musical genius . end of .
Perfect!
THE BEST!!! SUPER
best drum roll ever geeez
Grande Phil, Grande Luis, Grandi tutti gli artisti per un rivisitato pezzo storico dei migliori Genesis.
Grazie
Can't seem to ever get my fill of Phil....Love, love
and Daryl Stuermer on guitar! That was cathartic. The solo's were blowin', the arrangement reminded me of some -and might be another - of the great Quincy Jones greats with some incredible intermezzi, and it almost sounded like the sweet mellotron made a return guest appearance ('round 10:30 ) . I think this became one of my favorite performances of the tune of all time and a favorite I'm addin' now. Got me hand drumming and singing the recorded line 'There's an angel standing in the sun, free to get back home!'
aboveriver wish I could study the chart, too! : )
Bent it over and just SPANKED it ! Thank you .
great line up
Magnificent
WOW WOW WOW !!!
East has recorded, performed and co-written songs with Anita Baker, Babyface, B.B. King, Eric Clapton, George Harrison, Elton John, Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Sting, Quincy Jones, Al Jarreau, Kenny Loggins, and Herbie Hancock. He co-wrote the Number one hit song “Easy Lover” for Phil Collins and Philip Bailey. He performed on the Grammy award winning Unplugged album with Eric Clapton which featured the classic song “Tears In Heaven”(1992).

this is insane :OO
Art is in the ears and eyes of the beholder and to say that one artist is better than another is just preposterous crap. While Dave Weckl is a monster on his ax he never moved me like Phi Collinsl. They each bring DIFFERENT styles for our appreciation. And man do they shine!
EXACTLY!!
I never saw the comment someone must have made comparing Dave Weckl and Collins but there is a definite elitist attitude among certain drum geeks that says if you play in a famous band you can't possible be on the same level as someone who sticks in the jazz realm and plays music that say doesn't have vocals/lyrics, etc...The original tempo of Los Endos btw when Collins was much younger would challenge any drummer from any genre and more importantly Phil has always played the drums as a musician with a very musical ear; doesn't mean he doesn't have chops because he most certainly does and when the music calls for it they are on full display.
luis.phil great too
Phil Collins is for me! Is one of the best that crosses that primal line. When I was in that crazy time of holabaloo and the new rock english invasion .Yeh on tv in my parents house. My dad looked at me. And smilled. He new where I was headed. Oh yeh that devil music. 👏👍👹😱😎🖖
Great!!❤️
Music in its highest form!
I picked up on the inspiration for the Drum Solo when they reunited in 2007. Always cool how you can pick up on subtleties.
Espectacular !!
Sencillamente, MARAVILLOSO!!!
Nice reinterpretation of Los Endos.
Phil collins ❤❤❤💘💘💘❤❤❤👊👊👊👊
Genesis music is timeless. SURE ! As Pink Floyd, Yes or Kraftwerk musics wich will be played for years in the future ... I hope !
I'm Higg, Higg Abb. I'm from another star system currently on vacation on planet earth (Minudbb we call it) and I can tell you: all music is timeless. These days on earth you can really appreciate that.
thanks for the post
05:39 nice seeing Chester Thompson on the saxo
Phil Collins and Chester Thompson are the greatest drummers in the world period.
+MorbidManMusic absolutely. Love both and Phil (IMHO) doesn't get the credit he deserves, at least as the very inventive and "at ease" drummer he is/was. My wild guess is that the finest drummers in the world now come from a gospel music background. Many of these guys are unknown to the "general" public, but they have insane skills and versatility. Just random examples: Larnell Lewis (Snarky Puppy), Steve Williams (his Benny Greb tribute outdoes the original), Chris Coleman, Tony Royster Jr......., Tons of the great "known" drummers now are heavily inspired by these guys. And of course I'd place Gavin and Vinnie at least somewhere at the top.
and phil and bruford
There are a few more... John Weathers, Bill Bruford are two more excellent musicians
You have to mention Neil Peart too.
...a well-known, best kept secret for generations.
Grandioso !
And the gods wept. Mercy. Collins is surly the greatest all round musician and Drummer ever.
Marky Marx He couldn't swing if you tied him to the end of a rope
Marky Marx I saw him with Genesis in the 70's on the Trick of The Tail tour - last stop on the show was Seattle.
He did this thing with the tambourine- he'd toss it WAY up into the lights. Then catch it right on a punch. Do it again but kick it on an accent... catch it when it came down right on 1 to shake it as he sang.
He could sing his ass off as well. Unreal.
Well, he came up studying and copying Buddy Rich. Neal Peart himself states that Phil epitomizes putting jazz values into prog drumming (Rhythm 2011), an article in which Peart pays tribute to Phil’s technique and ability to make any time signature swing and feel RIGHT. So - sorry, dude - your emotional hang-up doesn’t cut it as criticism. Besides, he’s played jazz parts on lots of non-jazz session work, and has a list of session jobs longer than anyone short of Steve Gadd. Fail.
+john whipp - and you, John? it don't a thing if all you do is sting!
+Mark Darnell - John - it don't MEAN a thing... and you really MEAN!
Tony Banks parts sound just as great with horns,
nathan great bass and singer composer easylover
1981 and 1982 for me on this song.....but most songs live were powerful and confident at that time
amazing to see how phil collins has improved in his style over the years since 'another day in paradise' times! he used to play with those drumsticks with no 'tips' on them (?), and straight ballad stuff
I think it would be hard to play along with Phil Collins, considering he's a left-handed drummer. Kudos to Chester Thompson, for keeping up with him all these years.
Feels weird seeing Phil use three rack toms instead of 4 like he usually does.
well done!!!
ESTÁ EM TODOS OS GÊNEROS!!!!!!!!!!!!
CLASSE AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Colossale version : quelle énergie ! brillantissime
génial!
Un grande.Muy buena la version del tema de Genesis.
Phil was in genesis but think he would have loved to be in weather report
Yeah he has referred to his work on Los Endos and Wot Gorilla? as his "weather reporting" :)
That's why he was in brand x
This is good stuff! Quincy's 87 th birthday is coming up March 14...What a resume he has...D. Sanborn is no slacker either...Phiil? ...What can you say about such a world class drummer...He sat on the bar for prog drummers...Along with the other greats...I believe his best work is with Brand X...Unorthodox Behavior is killer!
great
