- This is the first video of several we produced with these two master drummers. The studio is Jimmy Branly's recording studio in California.
Some of the main things to look in Luis' playing are the rumba patterns he experiments with as well as his solo ideas on both conga and timbal. As far as Jimmy, there are many drum set ideas that he uses to accompany what it sounds like an authentic rhythm but that he modifies and gives it a more modern feel.
We sincerely hope you enjoy.

no puedo creer el sabor que tiene jimmy branly, a pesar de ser estadounidense tiene mucho sabor latino.
Es cubano.
Eso responde todo jajaja, gracias por el dato no lo sabia
I don't know much about drumming in general let alone latin drumming.. I couldn't pick up the timing for this lol.. what time signature?
it's 4/4, but heavily syncopated (as all latin drumming).
+J Elemani it's not unusual not to be able to find the downbeat or the time signature in this kind of music. Same thing happens to African Music. Our advice is to listen to more Afro-Cuban music so your ear gets more used to it and eventually you will understand more about the music and it's heavy syncopation. Thanks for watching and for the comment. GB
That's why god created guiro players :) This is in 3:2 rumba clave.
If it helps, the kit player (the great Jimmy Branly) starts playing a footbell that consistently marks the time at 1:10. He also marks a few downbeats with the bell starting at 0:22.
The constant 3:2 clave that Jimmy lays down gives a feeling of odd time, but it is in 4/4. Lots of polyrhytms give it the broken feel. Wonderful playing by both artists.
Jimmy is "Timbero"
Jimmy is everything.
Is Jimmy a Meinl artist as well?
I own the Luis Conte congas and they sound exactly how they do on this recording. Nice natural tones. Theyre pro drums for the midrange price!
cubiches! que vola?
PUT ALEX ACUÑA with Jimmy! THAT’D BE A WORLDWIND...
Drumming at it's best and don't ask rock drummers to even try this they will look foolish brother that's pure African licks from the Island.
de pinga¡¡¡¡¡¡
Claro que si!
as a metal head listening to this is like "what ummh im out of here"
open your ear/ mind
I'm a "metal head" and I love Latin percussion !!
Go beyond the harmonic minor.
