MAC raises China travel advisory to orange over death penalty threat｜Taiwan News

Taiwan’s Mainland Affairs Council has raised its China travel advisory to orange, which urges the public against nonessential travel. The decision comes after Beijing said it would punish “diehard” supporters of Taiwan independence with punishments including the death penalty.
MAC deputy chief Liang Wen-chieh said that the new travel advisory was not a travel ban. But he noted several recent incidents in which Taiwan nationals were detained and investigated in China without a clear cause. He warned that once a citizen is accused of a crime in China, it can become difficult to return to Taiwan.
