I so understand your complaint about the prices. It's the same for us Finns. But then, when you consider that these folk need to live on the income that they get in a few months, because there ain't nobody in for the tourism called how to survive being eaten by mosquitoes.
Tim, you are a very good "describer"!!! Of course I already knew this bc I am here in Lapland with you while in the middle of an Augusta, GA USA heat wave! I got so cold watching and listening to you that I had to put my wool shawl on😮 12:06
A few tips from a local. You can do this a little cheaper by renting an airbnb or a cheaper hotel room from the city. No need to use taxi unless you want to stay at the Santa's village very late. Public transport in Rovaniemi is not the best but during the day busses go from center to Santa's village at least once an hour and cost is about 3-5€ depending on how you pay (cash, bus app or the city bus card). The routes and timetables are online in English. The village itself is free to enter so you can enjoy the atmosphere and see Santa Claus for free if you don't want the video of your experience. Food is a bit cheaper in the city and of course there are grocery stores there.
The city is full of walking routes that you can explore for free (we have the freedom to roam law so all forrests are okay to walk in) and if you have your own skies you can ski totally free as much as you want since there are at least couple of hundred kilometers of free ski routes all over the city. Free fire places are also available pretty close to the center and free ice rinks all over if you get skates from somewhere (cheap ones are about 20€ at stores). Also free play grounds for kids are everywhere, biggest is an Angry Birds play ground very close to the center where you can also slide a small hill if there is snow.
Excursions are expensive everywhere. I have payed similar prises in Canary Isles and Turkey for trips to local farms, snorkeling or a tour to a local historical or natural site. But the northern lights and stars are free to watch if you go to a less lighted place on a clear night and look towards the North. For example somewhere around Ounasvaara hill area where there are walking routes and a free fire place on top (just don't walk on the ski routes, locals won't thank you for that). There is also an Arctic zoo (reindeers, moose, wolves, lynx, brown bears, polar bears etc.) in Ranua about 80km from the city and a public bus there and back costs about 30€ plus 22€ ticket for the zoo from an adult. There are couple of nice but not totally free museums in the city, a nice little church and a couple of cemeteries that look beautiful with all the candless in the dark around all saints day and Christmas eve and day.
Rovaniemi is a pretty normal small city in Finland with a little twist from tourism, being a univercity city, and having the air force base that caused the flight noice, so you can do many other than chrismassy things too, like swim in the river in the summer, do many indoor sports, go to movies, pubs and night clubs etc. Reindeers can sometimes be seen loitering on the streets outside the imidiate city center, so they are not just a touristy thing eather.
thanks for the tips
You are a saviour..Thanks a lot for the info ❤️
True, I was in a Guest House in Rovaniemi for 70 euro, and from there with city bus 8 for 3.70 Euro. This is OK, but Finnland is very expencive, even Sweden and Germany are cheaper. These nights for €70 in Rovaniemi were booked 5 months in advance, with no cancellation option, with shared bathroom and toilet, no breakfast. In Luleå in a first-class hotel with bathroom and toilet, with breakfast, in the center of the city and near the sea, it cost me only 65 euros. In Kiruna, similar - a single room with bathroom and toilet, with breakfast included, with the option to cancel up to 3 days before arrival, cost me 60 euros. In Germany, the prices for overnight stays in hotels are similar, and overnight stays in guesthouses can be found for as little as 35 euros. Why is Finland so expencive by less salary than Sweden and Germany? Even food in Supermarkt in Rovaniemi is much expenciver than in Sweden and Germany.
You went to actually buy water!? The tap water in Rovaniemi is actually better quality than any bottled water in the world.
oh you really!
@@WalkWithMeTim Finland's tap water is among the highest quality in the world and is completely safe to drink. You can drink tap water everywhere in the country and it has been found to be significantly cleaner than bottled water. 💧 💦
@@WalkWithMeTim Yup, it is basically same as "VOSS" (spring water from Norway that cost 20-30$ a bottle in US.)
@@Thevikingcam I actually drink VOSS water and it's not expensive it costs me $4 for the large bottle in glass so I buy five of them every week.
Tim that was the most exciting video I have ever seen, you covered everything I wanted to see (especially by my fire) wonderful. A Big THANK YOU, and I sincerely hope you win an award, for giving us such details, and prices. 💖😘
Wow that's kind of you to say Emma, I'm glad you enjoyed it
Oh my goodness 😂 I’ve just spotted me at 22:53 with my camera in the background’ I remember seeing you at that hut because I said to dean oh there’s a guy talking to the camera there! Dammit wish I knew I would of said hi! This looks like you had an amazing trip ❤ I wonder if your on any of my footage I’ll be looking out for you now hehe 😂❤
Oh wow how did u find this video?
@@WalkWithMeTim it popped up on my recommended! But we’ve watched a bunch of your vlogs before and found you months ago by your pontins video 🤍🥹 hope your having a lovely Christmas season! Loving the Christmas content! Xxxx
Just stunning Tim. Everything is so beautiful.Thank you for showing me this amazing place.👏🏻💕
You are welcome Melissa
We visited this place a couple years ago while travelling to the North Cape in Norway, very commercialized indeed but meeting Santa there was a truly magical experience. We speak Dutch and were very surprised that Santa could speak Dutch as well. That felt like true Christmas magic! We were there in summer though, but I'd love to visit during winter time as well, it's looks so beautiful. Unfortunately I don't like the cold 😅
You know he ain't really Santa right? 🙈🤣

Superb premiere Tim almost like a mini live. What an an beautiful place this is. I never realised Lapland was like this. Anybody with children would absolutely love a trip here, unforgettable 🎄🎄⛄️⛄️
Apart I would never get a signal on the back of huskies
everything looks so calm and peaceful, a bucket list for many including me.
Just visited the Santa village today. It looked so different today walking around in a tshirt in 25 degrees compared to - 14... Also it was a lot quieter, had only 2 groups ahead in the queue to meet santa. A great experience!
Wait so santa is there in the summer!!
@@WalkWithMeTim Yeah he's does the meet and greets everyday. You'd think the big guy would get a break after his shift on Christmas eve!
When I lived in Alaska (32 miles from the Arctic Circle in Fairbanks) it was -60F. (-51C.) quite often, but once it hits -20F. It doesn't really feel any colder when it goes even lower. Lots of Northern lights too! I suspect you would like it!
I live there now and have for the past 20 years. It’s funny to see how the gift shops sell a lot of the same stuff! 😂 At least they don’t charge you to see Santa at the Santa Claus House though.
Thanks for the video Tim. I always love how honest and transparent you are about everything (especially pricing). Please don’t change Tim, you do some amazing reviews and videos.
I'll try not to lol
Awwww I am so in love with the Huskies Tim they are adorable bless them. So precious. And I love Finland. Thank you Tim for taking us there with you. ⛄️❄️☃️❄️
you are welcome

Okay, I really love your videos, but when you freaked out over the dogs, I loved YOU. It’s so sweet to see a grown man freak out over puppies. ❤ I think it’s strange when people don’t love animals. Tim, you won my heart in this video. 😊
Thank you so much!!
Looking forward to this only 5 days till we go!
Hi everyone I'll catch up later, got granddaughter for sleep over busy tea time
31:50 I think the ones that are not occupied are kept cold to save on electricity bills and heated when they're booked. that's why the cold ones get snow on the roof and once they heat up it melts away
Precisely.
Equanimity-calmness and composure, especially in a difficult situation. Spot on!
Beautiful place can’t believe we will be there Wednesday we can’t wait ❤ thanks for sharing
Great video, informative, well put together and lots of good content. You’ve inspired us to look for our next trip 🙏
Great to hear!
A lovely video, thank You. As far as water comes, you can drink from tap anywhere in the apartment, even in the shower if you like. There is no need for bottled water unless you want to carry it around.
Great tip!
There was actually a media scandal here in the early 90s. They tested the tap water here against all big brands of bottled spring water. The tap water here was found to be much better quality than any bottled brand. If I remember correctly, it was Evian that was most peeved by this news. I know a wealthy gentleman who moved here from Switzerland. He bought a nice house, but it wasn't connected to the water mains - he only had a well in the garden (with pump to takje water inside). He felt unsure about this, so he sent a sample of the water to a top Swiss research facility for testing. As soon as they received the sample, they called him to ask where he got the water from, as they have never seen such good quality water - TRUE STORY! :)
Tim, for a second, near Santa, you looked entierly like a little boy, as if not knowing what to say to be correct, admitted by the big man, somehow. Is like for a second, like a shade, a second the child within you came on surface. Lovely. God bless you and your lovely family. From Romania.
Whenever Christmas is around the corner, I always have a habit watching your christmassy videos each year. How festive and joyful! Thanks Tim!
Wow, thank you!
Just re watched this vlog, i never get tired of watching your vlogs, always love seeing the snow and Christmas trees, lovely 😍
Absolutely amazing video Tim, so thorough. I’m glad you are so transparent with the pricing of things, it’s helpful if someone is planning a trip there. Keep up the good work!
Thanks Jessica, means alot
Your editing and production techniques are coming along miles - great video, fella 👌🏼
Lol thanks
How fun! That balcony is what I'd call a front porch! LOL Looks so cute and cozy! I have been watching the live cam of Santa's Village for a year or two now and it was nice to see the whole thing! Love your adventure! I dislike cold, but I am tempted to visit!
Happy holidays!
It's not so cold once you get into one of the snow suits that you can rent.
Wow, just Wow. Amazing. Thanks for filming this. xx
I'm looking forward to this and probably watch it at home on my smart TV. I've been to Lapland before.😻 Good Friday afternoon from Ayshire Scotland

Thank you so much 😁
Thank you for sharing the beautiful Lapland ❤so expensive so it’s only a a dream.. amazing video x
Thanks for looking thru the gift shop and read out the price. I like buying souvenirs 😊
Wow- what an interesting place. Would love to go there . Although it’s so commercial- have always wanted to do the husky ride, a wilderness trip and experience the northern lights.
You should!
Are the dogs treated well?
It was a very good blog today of your chili out walks around lapland Santa's holiday Village to see santa cruz tim
Hi Tim. I loved seeing the huskies and the reindeer also the northern lights. Just for those experiences I thinks it is worth the trip.
As a family was looking to go to Lapland over the years, after seeing this glad we never did, too expensive and commercial.
May I remind you that Lapland is twice the size of Ireland. There's plenty of other options than this particular commercialized resort filled only by foreign tourists.
My tip: Inari. A small little village/town with 1,500 residents and a real taste of indigenous Sami culture. Plenty of accommodations, good restaurants, Sami cultural sites and actual people living there. Also the best place/area for spotting northern lights.
Lapland is not same as Santa's Village. Santa's village a business. Lapland is huge area with amazing nature.
You can also stay in Rovaniemi for cheaper accommodation and just do day trip(s) to the Village.
@@jackwatsonepic626 The place is packed from December to February. Also July and August gets lot of visitors. Other times it's like you see in video. People visiting, but not too crowded.
You can visit Santa for free. We visit with my family every year. If you want photo/video, that cost 50 euro. And that is not per person. For whole group it's 50 euro.
To be honest it's not really that expensive if you don't stay in the village in December. And anyways it's a once a lifetime experience.
A very good Friday morning to you all from Wellington Somerset
and to you david
Can't wait.
Living my dream through Tim❤️
😁
Sorry got there late but it was worth it. Thankyou.
Shame the man wouldn't exchange with you on the Husky ride.
1:40 love the sound of crushed snow and ice under foot ✨☘️
The sound of winter - my favourite season
10 seconds in and… I’d recommed a scarf and a hat :D
Looking into this for next year! Thank you for showing us around! Have a lovely Christmas :)
Thank you! You too! it will me an amazing experience
Nice to see the place where i have born . Not very long from this village. Merry christmas to everyone ❤️
Hey Sunna, bet u had a great childhood here
@@WalkWithMeTim yes i had, and i allways thinking what would i give christmas presents because giving is soo wonderful thing to do ❤️
Really enjoyed this blog Tim. Was lovely to see Lapland. Definitely something you would need to save for of course. 😂 xx
Thanks for this video. I love watching the live cams from this part of the world and of Levi the ski resort. It’s fascinating to me being from Australia. I’ve heard before that it’s very expensive there. However, you’d probably only go there once, so what is the point of going and not doing the activities etc. might as well stay home and open the freezer door….lol. Love the husky tour you did and the northern lights. The people of Finland seem very friendly and polite. It would definitely be on my bucket list.
Reindeer hides are pretty common here in northern scandinavia, and has been for a very long time. It's a byproduct of slaughtering them, and the price is actually reasonable. Better than throwing away parts of animal you could use.
Yes it makes sense to me to use all parts of the animal and not waste. Eat the meat and use the hide (and the other parts for other things).
Finland is not in Scandinavia.
@@ladyelainefairchild3546 Pretty much the entire reindeer is used for different applications/products.
@@peterculley7896 It is in Scandanvia lol
@@daisygirlmochi768 no it isn’t, wanna bet? Lol You should check your facts before posting your ignorance! 😝
My husband would flip at the chance to see all those huskies, such a gorgeous trip overall. Thanks for the video!
Thanks Jennifer
As a Brit who's lived in Finland past 10 years, Tbh the pricing for those who live in Finland isn't unexpected because the living wage is better in Finland than England. You are paying for homemade crafts and real handknitted scarfs and hats etc, better quality. From the way most christmas themed parks etc are in world Lapland is the only place you get authentic and decent experience. Tbh they could charge alot more and get away with it. But overall experience it is worth it.
As a foreigner only visiting ofcourse you will notice the price difference, But knowing what Finland is like they only really think of themselves so tbh be thankful they don't care about foreigners so much or they'd just charge you more lol
yes its very expensive
Where are you based?
Gosh really interesting, never knew there was so much to see and do at Lapland. The cabins that you stay in look amazing and you get to meet the man himself. Thanks for sharing Tim.
Thanks for watching pam
didn't you know, those elves are carpenters by trade ! :)
It looks super pretty at night. My inner child wants to see Father Christmas now!! lol Seeing the Northern lights is on my bucket list!!
I think we all have that in us no mater how old we are
enjoyed love to go there thank you for showing
Love your channel Tim! You have opened my eyes to loads of things I didn’t even think of trying.
Got me feeling all Christmasy before I go out to my partner's Christmas do and seeing my friend from uni for a Christmas meet up tomorrow 🥰
Great video work of Santa Claus village - Rovaniemi. Been there many times during winter! 👍
Very cool!
Simply stunning, thank you
Thanks joy
Looks so good and comfy and very cosy would love to stay in the snow looks so picturesque and would love to see the northern lights does sound a bit expensive but I would be a once and a lifetime chance so this could be on my bucket list thank you for sharing 😊
We went to Santa's village in summer a few years ago. Especially went into Finland from Sweden when we toured Norway, Sweden and Denmark for 3 months in our motorhome. Absolutely loved it. We went to Elf school and had picture with Santa but managed to take our own picture. Sent loads of Christmas cards from post office which were all posted in time for Christmas all over the world. We parked in the main area for 2 days, for free and had midnight sun. Best experience ever. I think probably better than in winter, but it does look as if it has changed a lot but ot for the better. Thanks for showing it in winter.
you are welcome
Grand job Tim. I shared these two videos with my Finnish friend and she enjoyed them. We don’t get much snow here in Queensland! 🎄🎄🎄
Thanks Dianne
Hyvää joulua suomalaiselle ystävällesi. That's "Merry Christmas to your finnish friend". And to you too, of course. Christmas wishes from Helsinki ✨
Thankyou for sharing.
Lovely atmosphere in the "holiday camp" but I just know if I paid a hundred Euro for a half-day trip and was then told to "wait" and muster and relax and snack-up and dress up, I'd be fuming.
yes was annoyed
Amazing I wish I’d of been there looks so magical xx
I think that Casper will be demanding to go in a couple of years!
WOW I'm a 65 year old child again... ty for sharing Tim🎉🎉
One of my favourite ever videos, gives me the good feels when life is crap 🤣
:-)
Stunning video,Tim. Lapland looks so beautiful. But the costs! Thanks for honestly highlighting how pricey it all is. I'd love to go to see the country and the Northern Lights, not so much for Santa these days.😊👍 Btw the way, I'm glad you offered your hand, initially, to Santa. I hate that elbow bump thing.
yes I thought he would be ok with that now but I guess with how many people he must see
Epic!!! Absolutely gorgeous!
That is cool .
Great Vid Tim really enjoyed it very Christmassy
Brilliant video Tim! Thanks for sharing with us ❤
Thanks fir watching Gem
Brilliant vlog Tim. You are doing an excellent job with the detail.❤️❤️❤️
Thanks Lesley
Expensive places those tourist things. Like going to London or something. But kids gonna go bananas.
Hello Tim,what a awesome video,to see it live with people walking around the village, there are active things to do and restaurants to eat.
Thanks Steven
Brilliant video Tim, what a great place to go and visit!
It really is!
HI Tim that was an excellent video and thank you so much for taking us on a tour around the park, taking us to meet Santa and showing us the Holiday Park. That place looks so amazing and I realy injoyed the video so very much.
Happy holidays!
It looks like you've really got to be wrapped up with temperatures like there is there. I think, by the looks of it, the entire place is impressive, and Christmas at its ultimate. Glad you caught the Northern Lights. A very good video, and many thanks for the showing. PS . . . a little bit on the expensive side.
A very interesting and informative video. Thanks Tim for sharing.
Thanks
I had the immense good fortune last year to see, rather faintly, the Northern Lights from South Devon, U.K. This only happens very occasionally but it was incredibly beautifull. It was not huge swathes of bright colour, although some colour did show against the darkness of the sky but what I mostly saw was incredible patterns of lines, networks & moving rays of light. Quite subtle & delicate but beautiful patterns.
Where abouts in Devon Sarah? I'm Plymouth side. Gutted I missed that 🙂
@@Mardi-Shorts-DevonGirlUK To the East of Totnes.
I was in lapland for work earlier this year and I visited the village. Expensive I know but you have missed a little trick.
There is a truck stop shell garage across the road, the food there is alot cheaper, great pizzas as well. You will see snowmobiles around the ace as well
I did mention that lol
@@WalkWithMeTim sorry mate I missed it 😆
Just found your videos today, awesome content
Appreciate it!
Great video of a unique location. Inevitable that such a place has become commercialised with prices to match.
On my bucket list now. Thank you.
Really enjoyed this , Lapland looks amazing but seems a little underwhelming to justify the high costs .
Would you go back ?
In a heartbeat but not here I would go further north to levi
@@WalkWithMeTim Levi is even more expensive lol
Loved the video but my only criticism is you go about how expensive it is. It is Lapland with high tourism so bound to be expensive, if people did their research they should know this. Secondly the lack of snow you keep mentioning, this is because it’s mid nov. I’ve been to Levi every year for the past 10 years
but people need to know to get here from the uk is so expensive and that you need even more when u get here
But it’s a beautiful place with fantastic people.. keep up the good work 😊
Watching this beautiful video with view of snow covered garden here in Birmingham 😍 thank you so much for showing us the Lapland ❤
I know is been a very festive dec thus far

Love this comment I agree with it 😊
Brilliant video Tim. You really took us on the journey with you. We have always wanted to go and see the Northern Lights, maybe one day if we win lotto!!!. Debbie & Patrick in New Zealand
I know Debbie it's so wrong it's so expensive.. surly you can see the southern lights closer lol
It's an interesting experience in Santa holiday park in Lapland. Merry Christmas!!!
Great video Tim. I really enjoyed seeing everything you did. It looks such a pretty place.

Great vlog. Come to Scotland, Northern lights regularly seen in February 🏴. Just too commercial for me, great for the kids.
❤wow simply beautiful place
Maybe I've been in Cambridge too long but €99 for a 3 hour trip seems pretty reasonable to me! I'm going to look at booking here for 2024 I think
Great Video Tim, you explain everything so well, and I would definitely recommend your video for anyone thinking of going 😀👍
Thanks Stephen
You wonder about selling reindeer hide and burgers as children will think it's Rudolph! The cafe only has 2 candles outside, should be 4😁. Looked a lovely place to visit, you definitely need a few days there to appreciate it all.
Shaun the Sheep? Peppa Pig? There are plenty of these.
