Shouldn't a movie or a book leave you wanting more? Star Wars left audiences wanting more, we got Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. We got more with Harry Potter and The Lord of the Rings.
Movie was great. I think some flashbacks into the past with Elodie's family dynamic amidst her fighting to survive would have given more context to the characters.
I really wanted to hear her talking to the dragon more often! I think it would have helped keep the plot engaging. The main thing that pulled me out of the story were some really unrealistic moments - like the fire/lava getting super close to her without causing burns or the number of crazy falls that she walks away from (while dudes in armor get broken by similar ones).
Same. Also, there are so many other plot holes, girls that didn't survive had time to map the cave and leave instructions on the wall, the dragon k*lls all the previous girls, but spears Floria, Elodia uses her HANDS to tear a royal, sturdy dress apart, while she has access to a knife, she burns the whole castle and the servants and courtiers for no reason, she runs around with a huge hole in her ribs, the burn on her chest magically transfers on the other side, the stepmother manages to ride and recover miraculously from being stabbed in the stomach, when they embark the ship their hair looks perfectly coiffed and their dresses immaculate, the ship's captain waits until they sail away from the shore to ask for directions, the dragon flies very slowly by the ship to give them a chance to keep up, also WHY would a dragon leave their home to flu away to a poor country, where they only afford to feed the people, and don't have enough to keep the dragon fed???
I think the film wasn’t bad off course it’s Millie everywhere as she is the lead. I absolutely loved the dragons voice and she had some heavy hitters in here and I feel with just another half an hour to really sit and open this story it could have been really good. I must say the sounds score by Hans Zimmer definitely gave it a grandiose feel.
I did enjoy it too, but the countless holes in the plot made it frustrating to watch. It feels like they disrespect the viewers, thinking we won't be intelligent enough to notice
- It had so much potential, could've went on par with The Hobbit movies. The CGI was okay, the score was good, its just the story felt generic and there was too much drag on Elodie being in the caves trying to escape, like 70% of the movie. - The dragon action sequence was the only exciting thing that had to offer, but there was no character development whatsoever. - My problem is that Elodie felt from that bridge but no broken parts, she was cut and burned with no food or water for couple days at least somehow she magically survives, and then when the moment came to face the dragon, she turned 180 and acquired skills to be a dragon slayer in short amount of time, and the intelligence to do so. - I had nothing against the dragon, but to me its behavior felt more like a human than a real dragon in some parts. - All in all, i think this narrative felt like a direct opposite of what The Snow White were trying to do. Until, the glorious quote "She's not gonna be saved by the prince" becoming apparent, If you know, you know. 😂😅
I definitely agree, beautifully made, but plenty of plot holes. If someone like myself (not a film buff) can spot them, how could the scenarist/ director/ producers miss them???
@@AlissaSss23 well unfortunately, nowadays its all about remakes and live-actions of recognized IPs to pull audiences and keeping them excited only to bore them with mediocre scripts. Plus the woke narratives and political activism Hollywood stuff is just adding more insult to the injury. Its been rough for the past couple of years to enjoy any movie for me, and the industry is not going in the right direction, some say its too late to fix, but i think there's still hope, just need to fire everybody and start from scratch lol. 😅
Rambo did it better. He’s surviving in the woods then cut to what people were going through trying to find him. You get his back story of what he went through to make him so skilled. She just shows up, heroic. She’s scared but not terrified. So there’s nothing to overcome.
I liked this movie. It’s PG. I don’t think adults are meant to be the primary audience. This film was something I would’ve really enjoyed at a Saturday matinee back when I was a 12 year old girl.
I had to pause the movie halfway in…. to Google the cast! I KNEW that I’d heard THAT VOICE before! The recognizable gravelly husky voice of Chrisjen Avasarela in The Expanse. I tell you, if I didn’t love the Avasarela character soooo much, I would’ve plunged nails into my ears every time she spoke! 🤣 All in all, what a talent Shohreh Aghdashloo is! Utterly spectacular, and boy oh boy, she can deliver outrageous lines, and hilarious at the same time. She’s not an actress that you’ll ever forget! There she was, hiding inside a CGI Dragon character…and she still shines through!
This movie was geat! Started as a fairy tale and used some horror elements to create cinematic fun we only know from back in the 80s! Great film and so much better than 90% of all the other crappy movies right now.
This guy clearly missed the point on his head. Meghan Markel not allowed to bring anyone but her biological mother to her own wedding. Her father who loving raised her not allowed to walk her down the isle or attend the ceremony only to have the dragon breath prince Charles take over those duties
Fir me it was the composition of the shots using heavy greenscreen. The lack of proper blending made them stand out too much in the shot. Logic was dubious at best andbit really diddnt need the whole oh looks shes going back kn segment.
Great review, well articulated that the story was very thin and these amazing actors underutilized, leaving me wishing for more. The cruelty and violence was tough but hey msybe not my genre. MBB did a great job literally carrying this whole film by herself.
I could ascertain from the get-go that this movie would be a lightweight corny storyline. That said, IMO, it moved along quickly, and none of the worst scenes lasted too long. I was thoroughly shocked by The Prince! Throwing his new wife into an abyss where the vengeful dragon lived! Yikes. All in all, the corny ending was satisfying! Loved it. Happily ever after, except for dumb old Dad. RIP. 😉
I was bored out of my mind. You have actors like Angela Bassett, Robin Wright, Ray Winstone, Shohreh Aghdashloo and they are barely utilized to the fullest of their acting capabilities. What an embarrassment!! I felt, at times, that Millie Bobby Brown was overacting. Like some child actors do sometimes. There was no real and tangible story. I would have liked to see more back story from the princess's side. Like what would have pushed her father to do this deal and how seriously it would have impacted their hometown. There could have been more confrontation between the son and the mother about this 'ancestral' practice. I don't know, anything more than this. Like I said, a bore.
Chris, just finished Furies, the TV show and ended up liking it. It took a while to get going as it took way too much time in world building (IMHO) but once the plot got going, I couldn't stop watching it. It's definitely silly at times, maybe campy, but has decent character development and an actual character arc. I enjoyed it. For me, it was well worth seeing, but I was also suffering from a bad sinus infection so that could have been a factor as well as the show distracted me so I could at least not think of how sick I was feeling :)
Sad. What a wasted opportunity. I've been so hyped for The Three Body Problem, with all the American-produced garbage coming out on Netflix recently, I'm scared now!
How about watching it instead of listening to someone else's opinion. Maybe you might enjoy it, He is entitled to his opinion, However you shouldn't take it as gospel. For all you know some of the movies you like might be on the same level as Damsel.
Watch it and give it a try, there is only negative reviews of this movie... Mainly from men who hated seeing a woman either crying or fighting too much or both. Also they hate it cause it has forced diversity. There are also people that wanted more from this movie.
@@lopezcarmencecilia Honestly I felt the movie was a fine movie. Got right to the point even unlike some movies that tend to draw out things to the point of absurdity.
This movie was great! I love a good Dragon movie. My favorites are Reign of Fire, Dragon Slayer, Age of Dragons, and now Damsel. The world building is spectacular. Angel Bassett, Robin Wright, and Shohreh Aghdashloo crushed it...go Queens! Mille B.B. handled the heart stopping action. I will be watching this several times.
The movie got a lot of unnecessary hate. While the plot had a few holes, the acting was at least good. Everyone is letting mob mentality get the better of them and are too quick to jump on board the anti-woke train to hate this movie. I think it was an entertaining movie, certainly better than anything Disney has put out lately.
I didn't agree in the end when she saves the dragon and the dragon becomes her friend now in the end but let's not forget the dragon killed her father. I would have ran a sword through that dragon's head in the end.
I kinda liked The Princess (2022) with Joey King - The story was meh but Joey was amazing in it - There is one another korean female centric action movie The Villainess (2017) - its brilliant , good story , good action ....

I agree with you on this one. I didn't love it, but I didn't hate it. I found it entertaining, but I was definitely left wanting more.
I thought it was a fun 80's action movie throwback and Shohreh Aghdashloo was awesome. Kind of like Dragonslayer combined with Diehard.
This feels like a soft sequel to Dragonslayer.

So if they die after being thrown does it count before the dragon kills her?

I’m so sick of girl boss movies. I have been for years now, I’m convinced Netflix doesn’t know how to write any other type of female characters.
