    I don't think you realize you repeated the directions for the Row 19 repeat. Chaining 5 and skipping 2 V stitches was repeated twice so naturally I thought that was the pattern. Until you finished row 20 and clearly that's not what you meant. I went back 3 times just to see how I messed it up and, yup, same instructions repeated twice. Not a big deal, it's an easy fix but when you struggle with written patterns and videos are easier to understand, it's a bit frustrating. Otherwise, great video and I love how it's turned out so far!

      Thanks for making a comment on that. I too do not read written patterns well and depend on the video. I can't wait to make this shawl for a friend of mine.

      Yes! Thank U!! It should be chaining 5, skipping 2stiches 3x chainging 3 skipping 1stiches, chainging 5, NEXT 3x chainging 3… it make a differend

    Chainless double is a very handy skill. It is so much neater and gives a nicer edge. I use this whenever possible. Love this shawl ❤️

      This is years old but I just had to comment. I've just enconutered the chainless double for the very first time (I'm not a complete beginner but not super experienced yet either) and either I'm doing it wrong or the look is just not for me. It looks incredibly wonky every row I've tried it in and it's almost impossible to tell where I should crochet into when I come back to the end of the row.

    • @JonnaMartinezCrochet
      @JonnaMartinezCrochet  2 місяці тому +1

      @sashimster3243 when you make a chain-less double crochet you need to be sure it wraps tightly. Then pull the new yarn neatly through.
      When you come back to it. Look closely to the side of the stitch. It has two loops that form at the top/side of the stitch. Those are what you’ll work into.
      These take practice and if you don’t want to use them you definitely don’t need them.
      If the chain 3 is too long and this is too “wonky” you can also just chain 2.
      Thank you for watching!

    I am so beyond thrilled somebody besides me finally uses the standing dc as a beginning instead of ch 3! I’ve tight that standing dc to people for a few years now because it just looks so much better and cleaner! I’m really happy to see this! 😊🧶💗

      More coming out too.

    IN ROW 19! if you hit pause you’ll see a note on the video that says that she realized afterward that she repeated herself by accident or perhaps missed it while editing. I guess it’s difficult to make the correction now in the video itself without having to reload it. But at least she does acknowledge the mistake. Yes, I too did it as it was in the video. I think I should have 5 shawls by now, because of all my own mistakes. But I’ve decided to make a second shawl, it will be much easier now that I’m familiar with the pattern.

    Thank you Jonna. The shawl turned out very beautiful. I used Caron Latte Cakes pink melon for my daughter-in-law and she loves it. I did have a bit of difficulties with the one row where there was a video glitch and I thought I was to chain 5 two times in a row. But once I figured out the problem all went smoothly. Thank you very much... I will make this again!

    Just bought the paid pattern from your etsy shop. Omg I had no idea there was a UA-cam video on how to make this. The written pattern and pictures are stunning. And this is video is amazing. Thank you so much for making such a great pattern tutorial. It goes at a pace perfect for learning and going along with the video. I've made other projects by following other UA-cam video's and I end up pausing and having to rewind several times to keep up or understand. You have completely relieved my worry of not being able to create this shawl. I'm so excited to begin making this 😊

    I do think this is absolutely beautiful and very easy to follow!!! You are very good teacher and go slowly for those who are beginners and newbies. I'm an expert crocheter myself and can follow most any pattern without tutorials or scripted and can figure them out. But, what I'm asking, I would like to make this pattern into an Afghan. I could figure this out eventually, but would you by chance have something like this in a tutorial or scripted? That would be nice. I do have a couple of designs in mind if you want I will be glad to share with you. I am going to make the shawl though, I love it. And, thank you for taking your time to share and do video tutorials for everyone.

      @@JonnaMartinezCrochet You're very welcome. I'm just now going through my email and saw your email even came back to your UA-cam page, and I found what I was looking for yeah! I could not remember for the life of me about that double crochet tip that you're using in this tutorial, and I was searching all UA-cam I could think of and couldn't find it until after I read my email. I came to your page here and saw it again. I like that idea and going to apply it to see what it looks like on thread crochet. Looking forward to seeing that Afghan pattern.

    I’m kind of confused at the end of row 12. Where are you getting the chain 1 space to begin row 13? I ended row 12 with three HDC in the last space. Where are you getting the chain 1 space for the V stitch? Did I forget something at the end of the row? Please help.I’m making this for a friend.

    the pattern is very nice, and it makes a change to have a tutorial that goes straight to work with no fussing, but it would be nice if you had shown how to finish the row as not everyone would know you need to finish it as you started it. I almost missed adding a chain 1 double crochet to the end of the row when doing the first set of half doubles.

    I’m liking this so much more that the ‘standard’ virus shawl! I have a question - Row 12 begins with a HDC and CH1 (3 CH). Does it end the same way? Or does it end with the 3 HDC in the last CH1 space?

    I don't know where I went wrong. I'm short 2 v stiches for row 19 So the ch5 spaces aren't right. How many v stiches should I have in row 18?

    • @JonnaMartinezCrochet
      @JonnaMartinezCrochet  4 роки тому

      Hello!
      Here are the V st counts:
      13: 32st
      14: 36st
      15: 40st
      16: 44st
      17: 48st
      18: 52st
      Double check and make sure at the end of each row you are chaining 1 and dc into the last st. Then at the beginning of each row you are dc ch 1, v stitch into the previous ch 1. Otherwise you will be short. Thank you for choosing my pattern and watching the tutorial!

      @@JonnaMartinezCrochet now I'm at the point where I just repeated them again and my ch 5 doesn't fall right again. Is there a way I can cheat it because this is an awful lot to take apart? My last four rows are 94,98,102,106 so I thought it seemed right since they were increasing by four but I guess its not

    What is the difference between this shawl and the Grandma's German shawl? I was curious as they look similar and I am fairly new to crochet. Can't wait to start one of them as soon as I know what the differences are lol.

    • @JonnaMartinezCrochet
      @JonnaMartinezCrochet  5 років тому +1

      This one uses the virus stitch, hdc block stitch, and the V stitch.
      The other uses only the virus stitch and the double crochet block stitch.
      Have fun with either shawl! Thank you for watching and commenting!

    • @amynortum6982
      @amynortum6982 5 років тому

      I love the look of the German shawl but have not heard of the hdc block stitch or the V stitch, so would that one be beginner friendly? Thank you for taking the time to explain the difference between the two.

    • @JonnaMartinezCrochet
      @JonnaMartinezCrochet  3 роки тому

      Hdc block stitch is 3 hdc into one space. And a V stitch is dc, chain 1, dc into one space.
      So I would say they are very basic and you get used to them quickly.
      The best thing to do is try it for yourself. We are all so different when it comes to leaning. You won’t know until you try. 😊

    • @JonnaMartinezCrochet
      @JonnaMartinezCrochet  4 роки тому +1

      6 is the correct number of rows. You want to go back and count your stitches. row 13: 32st, row 14. 36sts etc. each row will grow by 4 stitches. Thank you for watching. I hope this helps.

      For the German shells you want to change color on the loopy valley row. And go for 4 rows.
