I opened for Faith for a few dates in 2017. We toured with them and I got a chance to watch her show with her husband. I was very moved by the show, how hard the band worked, the delicious catering every day and Faith’s singing. She worked hard and sang great. After one of the shows I saw her and her entourage backstage at one of those huge ice hockey arenas heading out. A large crowd had gathered around her, mostly family and friends and post show hanger-ons. I was watching from a short distance out of the fray having a post show cocktail when Faith yells out pointing in my direction “You!”. Certainly she’s not pointing at me I thought, but she was. “I saw the show before we came out, the bass sounded great! You got a great sound out of it, I loved it!”. She parted the crowd and came over to me in her smart looking track suit, smiled and shook my hand. Honestly, I couldn’t believe it . I’m so used to doing my job and laying low. Often I just head straight out to the bus, get a sandwich, get in my bunk and read a Tape-Op. The next day I saw her and Tim at catering and they both said great show again. What gracious people they were. I noticed that the entire band and crew were also so happy on that tour, felt really taken care of. Impressive in every way.
God bless you Lee for always reminding your followers that hang out with you, to be careful due to the pandemic. Also for recognizing those on the front lines. Much respect...
i remember right around the start of the pandemic, Lee's channel had something like 25K subscribers. Now, a little less than three months later, it's about to break the 100K mark. Way to go and more power to you, Lee! Thanks for all the inspiring vids you share!
Leland, my son Gabriel watches you everyday. He is 14 years old and loves all the music of the Wrecking Crew. (2 years ago, He was lucky enough to meet Hal Blaine & Denny Tedesco ). Thank you for sharing your musical stories at this difficult time. Watching you share your stories means so much to him. If you ever do go to Drum Channel, we would love to meet you in person. Thank you Al & Gabriel Velasquez.
Mr Sklar, you are my number one UA-cam channel. There is so much to learn from your music and from your humanity. I don't believe in god, but I do believe in people like you. Thank you for your videos. Please continue sharing your life with us.
Lee I've got a birthday coming up I'll be 67 thinking about being a teenager in the 60s & 70s what a time to be young we were in the middle of a revolution the music is the sound track of my life ,Thank You For Doing This ☮️
I am very proud of you for standing up for Black (ALL) Americans and fairness in life! Don't apologize for your feelings, they are real. Thanks for being here every day! This series of videos is an important part of my everyday life NOW!
Just a plumber reminds me of the joke about a master plumber who was called to fix the boiler in a cruise ship. He descends into the underbelly amidst the myriad of pipes. He walks about/looks and listens-takes a hammer and hits 1 pipe that fixed the problem. The owner is incensed to get a bill for $1000.00 for less then 1 minutes work and demands an itemized statement. The new bill read-Tapping with hammer-$1.00, Knowing where to tap-$999.00. Enjoying your postings
Love watching and hearing your walk through these memories. My cuz Jimmy Nichols was Faiths MD! What a wonderful gift you all give us mere mortals! Thanks for sharing your gift!
Cry is great as a whole, but what always gets me is the layout of the drum work. I have been playin guitar since 1975, but 2021 has been almost all bass for me. I am enjoying working on this song.
glad I found your channel. really super that you are sharing your career with us ! after April 9th 1964 lives changed. to hear how it was to be in the music industry is great . just turned 67 and have gone back to discover music of our time. after divorce started collecting vinyl albums . enjoy all the liner notes, and discovering studio musicians. played bass in garage bands in high school,so always been tuned into the bass line. fun to find out who played bass on what . discovered you, James Jamerson , Carol Kate , Rick Danko etc. with Wikipedia read about different bands personal . UA-cam can go back an see Woodstock and so many different shows I couldn't see without it .what is interesting my grandchildren know tons of the old music. fun to turn them on to different bands. with the crap that's on the radio today that totally synthetic cant blame them wanting to hear real people that have mastered their craft . good on ya ! enjoy you channel ! a great find in mint condition ( with poster !) 1972 album The Section .
Jeez, what a title !!! Up there with Tarzan;s a Swinger.... You are such a natural storyteller You say a name and i google.... Love you LS. Thanks for being a light in these crazy times..
Hi Leland! I found you in search of relief from the current state of world affairs. I am an aspiring singer, feeling more like a caged songbird at the moment. I am going to drink from the well of your stories and life knowledge. Thank you, gentle spirit!
I just discovered and subscribed to your channel thanks to a shout out from Rick Beato. I've been a big fan of your work for decades. I'm excited to dig into all these vids! Thank you for sharing with us! You're a legend in my book.
Lee, I want to thank you, Over the Past 6 weeks (Since my wife and I discovered you) during this lockdown, My wife and I look forward everyday to your videos. You are an inspiration for myself as a musician (Just a 40 year local Cover band hack with a family) I've seen you on TV and videos through the years, Never knew your name or much about you, Now I am learning what a national treasure/Legend in the business you are, not only musically, But as a human. My wife loves you. And I love you too! Keep it up. You just have a calm demeanor about you, and seem like such a caring man.Again, Thank you for our daily Leland Video. We look forward everyday to see what you have to say or play, LOVE your dogs and Yard, We have similar interests. Stay safe and YOU take Care also!
I seriously love hearing about these players and writers that are so almost mythical to me, living where I live. This is so very lovely and humanising.
I'm acquainted with Americana artist Mary Gauthier, and was helping her load her car after a gig, which was a brand new Lexus, which I remarked on. "This is the car Jimmy Buffett bought me," Mary said, and explained that Buffett recording her song "Wheel Within the Wheel" brought her enough songwriting royalty money to upgrade her ride.
Just ask a health care worker if it’s a hoax! But you are right, can only talk about it so many time and then move on, this is about music and your wonderful working life. PS I saw you live so many times last century (doesn’t that sound strange!) with Phil and band down here in Australia. I went to all his Sydney shows and always down the front. You smiled at me one night and acknowledged my return for yet another show which is now a life long very happy memory of mine. It was a very warm moment and said so much about you as both a musician and human.
Mr. Leland Sklar thank you for sharing your thoughts, feelings and experiences each day. I have come to the place where I look forward to your You-Tube video clips everyday. I so admire your talent, body of work and remarkable career as a bass player. 50+ years! Wow! You are one of those talented and fortunate souls who has been able to work in an occupation that allows you to be in your joy while bringing such great joy to others as well. Keep on rocking Leland Sklar and again, thank you! :-)
"Cry" is on a long list of "songs that I wish I had written". It's one of the greatest power ballads in the last 40 years, in my humble opinion. The vocal performance on this track in unbelievable...supported by a dream rhythm section...thanks for sharing Leland.
Great comeback Leland. Much light after the dark of yesterday. Those people are still out there. We must be vigilant. A great bunch of anecdotes and told with obvious passion. With your fine beard, are you the Emperor of Country? Ha,ha!! Keep doing it Mr S. Boy does it mean so much to us out here in the ether. A UK fan and his fiancee, Karen. Much love and an awful lot of respect.
Thanks Leland. I love your work. Thanks for the inside. Marty Grebb was a dear friend of mine and has a wonderful autobiography which is currently unpublished. It’s a joy to hear you tell the stories, share your fantastic playing and even your gear. What a blast! Thank you so much.
Me too. He’s irreplaceable. He has 3 or 4 albums of unreleased material and his unpublished book. I hope it all sees the light of day and benefits his daughters down the road. People, myself included, are loving your stories, playing and sharing. You are a great dose of love of music, incredible virtuosity, history and fun. Thank you. It means a lot.
Great stories! At somebody else's expense, but only for a minute, with relief and delight soon to follow. I'm pleased to have found this site and I consider you a friend but never mind. And your musical insights are always right on time.
Thanks Leland for sharing your stories and the beautiful music you were a part of, loved the Faith Hill song. Just had to retire because of covid a year early but playing music at home is making the time much brighter. Thank you for being such an inspiration for playing.
I love Faith Hill...she's the whole package! They play "Breathe" in the overhead music at work, and I'm singing along behind my mask! Thank you for this video, Leland...for the concern for all of us, for the smiles with your tales of music history, and most of all, for the wonderful variety in the music you've participated in and share with us here. 🧡
I love what you said about our actions as individuals. I’ve been shouting that from the rooftops. We must stop putting people into categories and demonizing them based on the actions of the individuals within that group. It’s only going to perpetuate misunderstandings.
I look forward to these visits from you each day, I'm sure you've made a lot of new friends. Cry is such a fantastic song, I love the original version by the writer Angie Aparo but Faith just does such a killer vocal, maybe her best.
I first noticed Larry Londin on Steve Perrys' Street Talk album. He was a huge part of the sound of those recordings I thought. It always brightens up my day once I see your video posting for the day. Take care and have a great day.
Oh, the connections... Love? You show it in every post and we feel it! Hope? I don't think you've given up. You don't know how! Faith? Wait for it. Something wonderful is coming. Everyone have faith!!! :)
You'd make a perfect judge for a "Bass Playing With The Stars" spinoff! Hehe. Great talk, and an inspiring song to play. I use to cover this in a bar band when it was new, and I was young. And like you, I dig a well written power ballad so much. It was always a healthy challenge for our lead singer, and it was nice to see those small dance floors full of tipsy couples waltzing. Another absolute favorite (3/4 or 6/8) of mine is Sheryl Crow"s "Run Baby Run." So spacey and roomy and groovy. As for worrying so much about the problems in the world, remember that this unfortunate moment in history has forced EVERYONE to take a hard look at their lives. Now, most of us see the latest events through our screens, be it real/fake news, or Skyping/Zooming(?) with a relative. I can honestly say I've made more video calls than phone calls... My point is, hearing you speak almost the same words as myself, or my favorite online gamer, about standing together to better our future, makes me feel connected. We are all here to tall you that we know how you feel, and we got your back! \m/ o.O \m/
The Name for this Pop Country is 'New Country'or is was... I got into Country in the early 90s.. Loved that Period of Country... CMT was a Free Sat Channel here in the UK..(not anymore) I played Bass in a Country Band for a few Years covering tracks by Such artists like - The Mavericks, Allan Jackson, Pam Tillis, The Eagles and others.. Country Music here in the UK has Grown and have a few Country Radio Digital Streams.. Enjoy your Videos, stay safe and keep them going..
Nice to hear this and now know its Vinnie, makes sense. Vinnie's left foot on hi hat on Watermelon in Easter Hay will always be one of the most tasty playing ever too me, and from a guy with limitless chops, it demonstrates a great musician. Thanks Lee
What a great story. Musicians can be an onry bunch. I'd love to have seen his face. lol Faith is one of my favorite country artist and also Reba. Take care and be safe.
My favourite Faith Hill song. I played it endlessly when my ex and I broke up. Sadly, this song means a lot to me, but it's a great song, nonetheless! Thank-you @Leland Sklar. Shout out to Vinnie, as well! Take care, and be well everyone! :)
@@davidthomas9960 Reverse-prejudice has never proven to be an effective antidote to prejudice, and hate has never been particularly good at eliminating hate. Gotta work on your technique, bro.
Lee,let me call you Lee cause I feel somehow close to you .I appreciate your videos for a number of reasons but sometimes it gets to another level. You guys have D.Trump on the throne right now and,I tell you, you bring a dose of normality to the screen that I really appreciate very much.I’m not going to start a political “thing” but what I see happening in the USA these days makes me sick to my stomach. And then there’s you, talking about your experiences with amazing musicians the likes of which I will never even come across and I think...this is the USA that I used to know, where musicians could go about their gigs and people could have live music and students could learn music to become great musicians. With all respect and meaning well you are like a dinosaur, from another time, when things were better. So,thank God that you are there and I hope to see a lot of your videos after the pandemic is over...pass your knowledge to other people, inspire us all with your stories, make young people want to pursue a musical career. In my book you have definitely a place together with the good people of this earth.
Hi Lee, thank you so much for these presentations! I really have gotten so much joy out of hearing the playing and anecdotes and stories. Please keep droppings names! I heard the comment you made in a previous session about not wanting to write a book. I’m so down with that but these sessions are such a beautiful living document. It’s not hyperbole to say that all posterity will appreciate this digital record. Everything that you and your colleagues in L.A. and Nashville have accomplished is truly remarkable and all of us who only experienced the finished product of your efforts via radio etc... love to hear about the behind the scenes, human ( sometimes goofy ) process that produced the work. Keep on spreading the love and joy. Keep on keepin’ on. Much love and peace my friend, Pete
I am hooked on this channel. Great stuff, and so relaxing to tune in at the end of the day. And as I write that, I hear "Still a plumber at the end of the day" 🤗

I was so glad to hear that song again. It has been a few years and I forgot how good it sounds.
It is no hoax. Just my opinion. Yesterday was necessary. Faith Hill. What a treasure.
Thanks Lee for sharing these memories with us.
My God...when the first chorus hit, it was like a tidal wave of this gorgeous vocal that just engulfs you! What a standout singer Faith is. Wow!

@@davidthomas9960 Reverse-prejudice has never proven to be an effective antidote to prejudice, and hate has never been particularly good at eliminating hate. Gotta work on your technique, bro.
Mark Hammer I don’t give a shit, ACAB.
