As it's not really set up yet I would tend towards sorting out what you want from it.. do you want a place to sit and ponder? Do you want to grow tomatoes chillies pepper and things in tbe winter? Can you take tools or do you want to store things on plot? If so a polytunnel can be way to go and you may want a shed .. even just a 6'x4' would do. How to access the plot? If it's a rectangle a central path up middle and beds either side just mounded?. then you can change layout easily. If you want longer horizontal beds then why not create a grass or woodchip path next to your neighbour rather than flimsy green netting? Then you can access either side with wheelbarrow etc. Those ibc tanks are for water but don't seem set high so not that easy for cans?? Also there's doesn't seem to be any way to top them up?? Do you not have a tap or dip tank system then? If not then definitely get a shed and use both sides to run gutters to fill butts or ibc's.. on ebay about £60. Water in most places is a vital resource. You may want to think about a seating area with some shade.. it looks v exposed.. real sunburn in summer ..be good to visit some other local sites for ideas if your diatrict has a few ....good luck!
Lots to think about indeed. I have been making lots of notes and will be planning on to best use the space, but also to use it in a way that it can change if needed. Thanks for the input 👍
IBC tanks that haven’t had terrible chemicals in them are all the rage for water storage. One gardener even grows vining stuff on the outside. That also keeps the water a bit cooler. Intermediate Bulk Containers. Here in Canada we can buy used ones or new ones. Rarely, someone has one to give away, but it is worth checking marketplace sites, if you can. 👍❤️🇨🇦
Allotments are such an English thing and it’s great wish they had more of them here in Canada 🇨🇦. I’m very lucky in that we have our own large garden but I’m sure lots of people would benefit from them. Those are water containers and a lot of people raise them off the ground and put a tap on them. Check out Malcolm Kingswell he uses them. Have a great week doing well 🐝 safe ❄️🎄🧑🎄 ps what is your first name 😂😂
It’s great to see your allotment. I’ve had mine for 12 months and like you I wanted to get growing straight away. I cleared beds and covered them with cardboard. I’m pleased with how it worked. I just started one bed at a time and I was lucky because the structure of the plot was there. It just needed uncovering. The white IBC tanks are great for storing water. I haven’t got one but at the moment I just manage with water barrels. I collect water off gutters but also just have some uncovered through the plot. I’m planning for next year but I still have things growing to harvest. Have fun.
Hi Ali! A new site to subscribe to. Yay. Thank you, Mark. Look forward to seeing the plot develop. Like Ali, my sizeable back yard is my garden patch. There is an allotment site for the village but most people who garden have their own backyard gardens. Nakusp, BC, Canada.

Just subscribed. Looking forward to seeing further updates 😊
Thanks. Plenty more updates coming. Lots of planning and prepping for Spring.
Enjoyed your plot tour. Have subscribed to your channel.
Thanks Wendy. It’s a nice little allotment site
I'm also on a small site, there's only 13 plots on my site. I'm lucky if I see anyone else!. You've done well so far! Just subscribed
I saw a couple of people over the summer, but then come September time I was the only one on the site. It felt like it was just me doing it all.
@@GrowingWithPlot21 I know that feeling all too well, I've been on my site nearly 15 years!

My name is Mark. I’ve not actually introduced myself yet. I’ll have to do that in another video 😀

Enjoy the tour
Thank you for the tour. Very inspiring. So different from allotmens i Denmark.
Thanks for watching. What are the main differences?
@@GrowingWithPlot21 Danish allotments are most often surrounded by hedges and it is very common to have buildings for accommodation.
We can have some borders between the plots, but no buildings for accommodation.
