Best of luck with the onion challenge. Elaine 🌱🧅🧅🧅
Many thanks.
get well soon Mark, onions are coming along nicely 🤕👍
They’re not looking too bad!
Hey, i haven’t sown mine yet 😮 today hopefully
There’s still plenty of time 👍
@ 😊
Your onions are looking good. I hope you feel better soon😊
Thanks. They’re doing alright for now. Let’s hope they flourish.
Hi Mark Great update mate. Hope your feeling better soon. 👍👍👍👍👍🧅🧅🧅🧅🧅
Thanks. I’m on the mend, but not 100% there yet.
Oh yikes crunchy snow. Get well soon Mark 😢. Don’t overwater I am always doing that 🤦♀️. Stay safe keep warm, Ali 🌧️🥶🇨🇦
No risk of over watering, as I couldn’t leave my bed for 5 days lol 🤣🤣 I’ve ventured to other parts of the house the past 2 days, so getting there. The ground is frozen and icy now!!
Oh no! Hope you feel better soon ❤❤
Getting there. Was floored in bed for a few days, but seem to be over the worst of it. Only silver lining, was I didn’t have to venture out of house in the freezing weather.
Nice update, best of luck mate
Let’s hope they do well
Great update Mark, it’s good to know you are going to get a fan on them, I feel it’s quite important in order to keep them sturdy. Hope you feel better soon.
Never used a fan for seedlings before, but that’s what you all seem to be doing 👍
@@GrowingWithPlot21 i think its just that a light breeze can help strengthen the seedlings for when they are put outside. Or if they are beiong grown inside a grow box on heat mats it helps circulate fresh air. This is my first time with giants so learning as i go and from friends who do grow giant onions and leeks
Yes, light breeze indeed. Gonna give it a try and see. My onions from seed all died last year, so I’m doing better than last time lol
Good luck on getting your seeds started. New friend here. Showing you support. I am in the challenge too. Fingers crossed I get some onions. Happy gardening 😊
Hopefully we’ll all do well. Welcome to the challenge 👍
Best of luck mate, new sub here 👍
Welcome 👍
@GrowingWithPlot21 cheers mate 👍
Oh awesome I’m going to do some of the ones you sent me today or tomorrow 👍👍. Have a super day Mark hope it’s a dry one, Ali 🥶🌦️🇨🇦
Sounds good Ali. Look forward to seeing how they go. It’s been dryer, but getting colder by the day now.
Hum and har away 😂 Mark. I did 12 of each in heat and 12 of each without and to be honest I’m not seeing a lot of difference. But good on you for joining good luck 👍, Ali ☔️☔️🇨🇦
Let’s see how it all goes. Have a great week 👍
Hi Mark All is looking good. Good luck. 👍👍👍👍👍🧅🧅🧅🧅🧅
Let’s see how it goes
Nice one Mark, should be up soon, best of luck with them. 🧅👍
Same to you. Let’s see how it goes.
Well done joining in,we can all learn from each other 👍 good luck ,your seeds should be up in about 7 days 👍👍
Let’s see how it goes.
I planted beans today and onions and garlic last week… I don’t actually eat broad beans! Hardly eat onions either, but my neighbours do! Thanks for the vid xx
I’ve got some onions from seeds starting and I’ll plant onion sets in the spring. Thanks for watching 👍
@ I’ve also go loads of onion seeds, but I think I may have already got too many onions! But knowing me, I’ll end up growing some seed and seeing if they’re better than the set onion x
I've joined the challenge after watching another vid of yours! Mine are still in the post so I'll copy you now! 😂😂
😂😂😂 I wouldn’t advise copying me, I’ve had terrible luck with onions. Good luck with it all 👍
I love broad bean flowers!
Here’s hoping to a few.
Evening Mark, and I’ve bought some more garlic 🤦♀️ me too 😂😂. For someone who wasn’t going to grow any I’ve now got lots 😅. Hopefully the garlic does well and the cold helps split them👍. I’ve done more broad beans as the caterpillars got at mine earlier in Oct. I’ll do more again most likely in early spring. I’m glad you’re passing on the bushes you don’t like 👍. Remember raspberries in the ground will spread out a lot. Oh awesome compost find 💪💪. Have a great week Mark stay safe, Ali 🥶☔️🇨🇦
More crops Ali? Who would have thought you’d be growing more 🤣🤣 Yeah, need to look into raspberries and think properly about them. I could find ones that go in pots to save the hassle 🤣 no rush to decide though.
Hi Mark, new subscriber, I'm also doing the onion challenge, looking forward to your gardening journey, always remember if you don't know about something then always ask, everyone is always here to help with advice, Steve
Thanks for the subscription. Yes, there are a lot of people to learn from - a good community. Good luck in the onion challenge? 👍🧅🧅
Nice update Mark, I’m sure that garlic and the broad beans will do really well. Thanks also for sharing the onion challenge, it’s much appreciated. 🧅👍
Thanks Pete. My Onion video will be going up Tuesday hopefully. Sowed and filmed, just need to edit now! Have a great week 👍
Hello, that’s a good assortment of seed..get sowing 👍👍
Thanks. Planning on it very soon.
I’m not taking any chances this year I’m doing my garlic inside in pots, it definitely gets cold enough in there 😂. Happy growing Mark, Ali 💨☔️🇨🇦
Never thought of garlic in pots. Look forward to seeing how they do 👍
@just have to remember not to allow them to be too wet hence the inside this year 💪
Love your channel. Keep up the good work!
Thanks for saying 👍
I’d never heard of seed craft before, looks like a great idea for people starting out in gardening, I’ll have to look into it. I take it it’s a subscription service?
Yes, it’s a subscription service. Can do month by month or extend. I got this years subscription for a Christmas present last year. It’s good for beginners.
Hi Mate Nice update on the #GOGC2425 I will be sowing my seeds when we get back from holidays in two weeks time. Good luck 👍👍👍👍👍 🧅🧅🧅🧅🧅
That makes me feel better. I’m not too far behind everyone. Just need to find a day to do a mass sowing, as have quite a few seeds to sow
😂 I’m behind watching Mark as we were up on the roof fixing the shingles. Good luck with the challenge 🧅🧅 here’s to everyone winning a big harvest. Have a super weekend Mark, Ali ☔️☔️☔️🇨🇦 Ps from what I have heard they don’t like too much water 👍
Let’s hope we all get good harvests.
Welcome aboard the #GOGC2425 👍
Thanks. I don’t think I’ll do well, but if I’m a couple of weeks behind you guys I can copy what you do 🤣
Great to have you joining us for the challenge, hopefully it will be a bit of fun and we can all learn something along the way. Best of luck with them. 🧅👍
Happy to join and yes it’ll be lots of fun.
End of season clear out, all part of the allotment cycle..enjoyed the video.👍
And a few extra jobs before season ends hopefully.
Nice bit of hard work there - I think we all put off the hard work of weeding but it is necessary
Little and often for the weeding is the key, but it’s easier said than done
Dear Mark, I think you need to sit down and write out your plan for each visit to your allotment. It will help you organize your needs as required. Have plenty of enjoyment with your allotment. ❤ Susan from Colorado, USA.
Thanks Susan. Lots of jobs to crack on with. Plenty of enjoyment.
Congratulations on topping 600 🎉. I can so relate to sore back 😅 I’m my own worst enemy. I think it’s such a shame you are trying so hard and that plot next door is a mess 😢. Maybe are you allowed to make a fence with pallets, to block him off? Hope to get my garlic in tomorrow. Have a great week put your feet up, Ali ☔️🥶🇨🇦
Hopefully he’ll crack on with it come the new year. He seemed interested in working hard on it, but I’ve noticed no change in the plot since I saw him last. Let’s see.
Hi Mark looking good mate spring will be with us before we know it and it’s good to be prepared. You’ve reminded me to get my garlic in 😮. Keep em coming mate and have a good week 😊👍
Cheers Mal. I might need to get some more garlic, if might don’t sprout soon. Getting there ready for Spring.
I am waiting for my spring bulb shipment to arrive and then I’ll get some pots done to brighten up March days. But other than that there’s not a lot going on. The rains have let up and the ponds 😂 have subsided but I’m catching up on videos. I don’t grow actual pumpkins 🎃 but I’m glad you got a few at least. Have an amazing week, Ali ☔️☔️🇨🇦
Thanks Ali. Not the best pumpkin harvest compared to previous years, but at least something. I saw your ‘rivers’. That was some rain. We’ve had storms all weekend, so not been able to get out to the plot unfortunately.
Have been gardening in current garden for over 30 years, am finally over my messy pile of wood, plastic frames, bricks, bits of concrete, netting, plastic netting etc. Used a old metal frame of a paddling pool, some rebar, now have things looking better, scrap metal removed if have never used. Also used some old plastic drums to hold straight stuff. Holes drilled in the bottom for drainage.
Sounds good 👍
I have just posted them
I grew up visiting grandparents there, loved mother shiptons cave, and the boating lake 🥰 New subscriber here, saw your channel via Gem the garden 🪴
Thanks for taking a look 👀 Was a lovely place to visit.
the last time i saw the northern lights i was in my late teens. i used to go night fishing on the north east coast. it was a brilliant sight....................brian
They really are a sight to be seen 👍
Funny enough even with our clear sky we never saw the lights 😢. That is some lovely compost Mark 👍. Couldn’t find any elephant garlic yet but I’ll keep looking. Hope you get some sleep tonight. Have a fab week, Ali 🥶🌞🇨🇦
At least I saw the lights :) Slept well the night after, must have just been that one night, but it sets you up for failure for the rest of the day. Hoping to get to plot tomorrow to do a few bits, depending on weather.
I think the idea of a wildlife pond is great Mark but speaking from my experience I put ours under a tree and it wasn’t the best place for it with all the leaves and stuff falling into the pond. We’ve since cut the tree back hard and the pond is thriving and we have amazing wildlife visit it.
I am planning on cutting the tree right back, as it’s getting too big. I just don’t know if I’d have to cut it back a lot to make a pond. It’s hard to figure out what other space I have for one, as don’t want to use growing space, but then how many beds is too many??
I also don't like spiders 🕷 Nice harvest 👍
It’s my one big phobia. Thanks 👍
hi mate new sub here plot looks great
Thanks for watching 👍 Plot is slowly getting there
Looking forward to seeing the bulbs blooming in the spring, thanks for sharing..new friend here.
Hopefully they’ll bloom lovely. Thanks for watching.
Congratulations Mark on topping 600 subs 👍👍. Perhaps one of them can come get the spider 😂😂. You’d never work in my yard I have loads of them. I’m trying to clear beds so I can get to the soil and plant spring bulbs. It has been really sunny today so I’m doing a bit of work sorry it’s 20c today 🤷♀️. I don’t think the baby boos get any bigger so,they are fab examples. 9:14 can you not burn the wood and incorporate the ash in your compost. Keep up the great work Mark, Ali 🌞🥶☔️🇨🇦 ( we are getting all the weather systems )
Thanks Ali. Spiders are my one big phobia sadly. We have a storm brewing thanks to Hurricane Kirk, supposed to hit Wednesday this week, so that will be fun. Didn’t realise you can add ash to compost - but thinking about it it’s only wood 🤔
You’re as bad with spiders as I am with rats Mark 🤣🤣 Good work those bulbs should give you lovely spring display mate. 😊👍👍
I hate spiders Mal, I’m not a fan of rats, but I can deal with them 🤣 here’s hoping for a good spring display 🤞
Cracking job are you getting onions and garlic in happy gardening Richardx
I’m using my elephant garlic and normal garlic that I grew last year. I saved a couple. Onions I’m experimenting with planting in March - as I’ve never had luck planting out this time of year.
@@GrowingWithPlot21 just ordered mine from budget seeds nice price
Thanks for sharing beautiful video my friend. Very good
Thanks for watching.
Garden design/bed planning is so important use a tape measure and builders string to have the beds exactly the same size with paths the same width, two of mine are slightly wonky you only know when the wheelbarrow legs won't sit on the path. It takes time, to get it right.
Indeed. Gotta make sure planned right, otherwise it’s a lot harder to re-do in the future.
well done mark. All the little jobs add to the bigger picture! Danny
Cheers Danny. Yes it is slowly getting there. 👍
Pruning a tree rule of thumb is normally no more than a third. It may of course effect amount of fruit next season 👍👍
Thanks Ali. It’s so big now, I do need to cut it back. I think I’m going to get some of those dwarf trees I saw at the RHS garden, they’ll be nice to have.
It’s a never ending thing a garden but you are doing an amazing job of it Mark. Are there slugs under your upside down pots? Ivan uses pots like that to collect his. Oh yikes I do that I’m always tripping over something. Oh lovely frog 🐸 I hear mind but haven’t seen many this year. Are this baby boos they won’t get much bigger but as it gets colder critters will start eating them as food becomes scarce. We are hoping for our winter burn permit this November 🤞🤞. Look after you too Mark and try to enjoy as well as work, Ali 🥶🌞🇨🇦
I’ve not checked the pots!!! They are baby boos. I didn’t want to harvest just yet, as didn’t know if they’d last till Halloween - do you think it would be safe to harvest now? Silly question, but what’s a winter burn permit? So you can burn stuff? 🔥🔥
@@GrowingWithPlot21 hopefully the baby boos are ok until Halloween 🎃 then. Yes we have to buy a burn permits in March and November, assuming the city approves as well because every year the tree hugging whingers complain about it. But in reality it’s a joke because the farmers can burn whatever they like when they like so my little smoking fire isn’t going to do a lot to damage the environment 🤦♀️
Hopefully you’ll get it 🤞👍
