Damn, Vitus was amazing. You can see why Black Flag had them open for them even though (or perhaps because) it drove the little punkers insane. This music is every bit as loud and intense as the Flag was back in the day. Truly fantastic stuff, thanks for posting.
you take your shots where you can get them and it made sense loosely at that time. this band couldn't have had a more difficult to understand, convoluted beginning, though. very happy to see them gain an audience later on through the internet. our forefathers of doom deserve this and more.
@@Epitaphforyesterday what's crazy is, the virginia, maryland, dc area had a much more cult doom scene at the time. Pentagram most likely had a huge part in that scene from the early 70s to the 80s
Amen. Its a very short stretch from the sonic roar of Black Flag to Saint Vitus. And I must say, having seen Vitus several times, most of the audience WAS into them. Even at that time only the most close minded people couldn't appreciate what they were trying to do.
This is truth. On April 8th 1982,Vitus opened the show for SST Overkill, and The Stepmothers. Some punks came up and told me "I hope you guys don't play like this." I told him him, "You'll be surprised." As soon as we started our set the headbangers were in front of the stage, and the punks were fighting, and slam dancing in the middle of the floor. Great show, I never saw so many fights.
love how the punks in the video are enjoying vitus music i play for a crossover thrash band and we were invited to play at a hardcore show we got there and everyone was moshing to any hardcore band and then when we went upstage and we heard jeers about us having long hair they just sat down and waited for us to finish our songs with blank faces then started moshing again to the next hardcore band
Man, Vitus ruled. As much as it pissed the little punkers off in the day, you can see why Black Flag had Saint Vitus open for them. They were heavy, loud, and intense, just like the Flag was. This is outstanding.
@snubbs741 Ginn liked Sabbath, but his favorite band was the Grateful Dead; he claimed to have seen them over 75 times. If you listen to the stuff Ginn is doing now (Jambang and the Taylor, Texas Corrugators), the Dead influence is readily apparent, but you'd be hard pressed to hear any Sabbath in there. On another note, Saint Vitus doesn't sound that much like Sabbath in my opinion. They definitely have a Sabbath influence, but I'd say Vitus is darker and heavier than Sabbath.
Seen these guys open for Black flag in ann arbor this tour the venue did not want slam dancing so a lot of people were kicked out when Black flag played the bouncers were tired and stoped kicking people out but the people who were kicked out had organized and wanted to fight so here I am 14 or 15 years old and now we gotta leave the venue in the middle of a standoff the bouncers did not want to go outside cause they kicked so many out . I was hooked on Saint Vitus since
i seen vitus back in the day and even did a couple of shows with them , there heavier than sab in the 70's verison , except durning the born again tour. and i seen sabbath 13 times myself , still vitus is heavier
they took their name from st. vitus's dance .. hello ? .. mark adams sat behind me all thru jr. hi . i was a surfer an he was a dirt biker . go figure . scotty reagers was my sister's best friends lil brother . in torrance , calif . right on 223rd st . .. scotty still lives there now , saw him a few yrs ago , an mark still lives n lomita off 255 st

fuck man he's got a good live voice
2024, still great great great! Thank you, guys!
I do agree, priceless footage. The sound is taken straight from the soundboard, that's why it's so clean.
Long haired hippie with a punk band shirt playing guitar on a Doom band for punk fans.
Can it get any more diverse than that?

The drums sound better here than on the studio recording. Terrific!!
Speed metal!
Hello doomed friend.
That tone! Marbles in the Mosh Pit
It's the exact guitar tone on the album. I saw them live in Berlin in 2014, and hearing that sound live is so powerful, a true spiritual experience.
I want a Saint Vitus shirt. Such an influential band

Canadians are metalheads
Thrash is more relates with Punk. Crossover is basically hardcore punk
Thank you so much for having this piece of History of Doom online, it's absolutely fantastic.

Brutal!!!!!!! ❤
mesmerizing performance! vocals sound even better than on record
Armand Acosta was a goddamned beast drummer.
I would've seen Vitus at their prime. Heck, I'd be happy see them period!
one word: masterpiece!
Scott reagers is awesome he looks like if tony alva and bobby leibling morphed together haha xD

Heavy underground doom metal from the early '80s. What more could you want?
Well besides hearing this song played live to much better quality...
this show is available on dvd now from shadow kingdom records. I assume they contacted you for the master tapes, downtownlive?

BLACK FLAG :)
@crowbarftw Oh that woulda been so fucking cool!
Check out our episode with Dave Chandler here: ua-cam.com/video/sN57E7Z6rpU/v-deo.html
is it just me or does scott reagers sound british
ya maybe, 'cause they're reminding me of Iron Claw somehow
who cares about whos heavier.
Probably the most uncool band in 1984.
zebageba yep. EXACTLY why we loved them... outside the fact the music fucking ruled. So dirty in a shiny era
