Kim chose to manipulate a video and publicly bully Taylor for calling out Kim's husband for using misogynistic language in a song he was releasing. Taylor is not "airing dirty laundry" or "creating/starting drama". She is calling out a bully, a proven, attention-seeking liar, who has never publicly apologized for her egregious behavior. It's relatable and probably cathartic for those who have been the target of bullying to have someone as "large as Taylor" publicly acknowledge her feelings about being bullied. This song explores the idea that a person can use pain and anger from the past to build something amazing and to find healing in that act of creation, despite never receiving the apology you are owed.

Taylor’s fans already dislike Kim. I perceive this song as not only calling out Kim for what she did (because no one ever held her accountable), but also as Taylor speaking her peace, letting go and moving on.

Yeah, I really don't think people have sat back and considered that Taylor 1000% has enough evidence to take Kim and Kanye to court and that she would absolutely win a case of defamation over that phone call business.
But people getting their panties in a twist because she just writes a few diss tracks instead.
This shit is what Taylor wrote Mad Woman about.
Being judgmental about someone refusing to accept a crime against them than they are about acknowledging the crime itself.
And I don't even think of myself as a Swiftie. Just a big fan of the music.

I don’t know if you have mentioned the battle rapping between Drake and Kendrick, but what is the difference between? Did you review them and say the same? I just want to put that out for consideration.

Well, she‘s calling Kim out for a good reason. She never had to take responsibility for faking and posting the famous phone call and defamed Taylor on social media for everyone to see where the world thought she was lying and playing the victim. When you get to Cassandra you‘ll maybe understand when she sings „When it's "Burn the bitch, " they're shrieking
When the truth comes out, it's quiet
So, they set my life in flames, I regret to say
    Do you believe me now?“
Kim & Kanye put her through hell and never apologized. She had to flee to England and hid from the public eye for years. This song is very kind for what they did to her. PS: when the unedited phone call leaked and people knew Taylor wasn’t lying, guess what, no one cared and there were no repercussions for Kim.

The drama was already out there. And she didn’t start it. It’s a diss track. And hell yeah she’s calling her out 😂😂

... Ok... You can't claim to not like drama, but then give the person who is being called out the benefit of the doubt over Taylor or whoever is making a diss track.
Taylor didn't pick a name out of a hat and just randomly decide to be mean to whoever just because she can be.
Go and look at the clips of Kanye West concerts around 2015/2016 of tens of thousands of fans at a KW concert all screaming "Fuck Taylor Swift" at the top of their lungs because of a manipulated absolutely falsified story that Kim K spread in the media about Swift.
You can only claim not to care about the drama when you've established the bare facts about an issue so that you have the context.
This incident caused Swift to drop out of the public sphere for an entire year. It caused a MASSIVE spike in her eating disorder. That isn't rumour. Go look at photos of Taylor from around that time. She was super, super unhealthy skinny. She said so herself.
And neither Kim or Kanye ever said a word of apology when documented proof showed that they falsified their so called "evidence".
Taylor could EASILY have won a defamation case against Kardashian if she chose to.
Her merely writing a diss track about it is the softest, kindest thing Taylor could have done under the circumstances.
It isn't cool to pretend to be above the drama of it all and in the same breath, pretend like an actual crime wasn't committed against Swift. By any legal definition, what Kardashian did to her was a campaign of harassment and verbal assault.
Stop defending everyone other than Taylor. It's fine not to accept everything she says as gospel... But that isn't what you consistently do in too many tracks.
She has never written a song about someone who didn't come at her or really fk her over once. You are kind of being the kind of person she wrote Mad Woman about when you make comments like these.
And it really pisses me off, because I very much enjoy your musical insights.

Taylor isn't airing dirty laundry. She is expressing how she feels. She even thanks Kim for making her stronger. If someone tried to end my career based on lies, I would do a diss track if I had the talent.

I'm so happy that I read the comments before clicking play because I would have been extremely pissed. Taylor decided to address the bullying by a person who tried to ruin her life and career and some jerks try to make her out to be the bad person. SICK.

🤷🏻‍♀️ Taylor didn’t use her name (she never does) and if the person in question hadn’t been part of consistent bullying (including editing a phone call then blasting blame onto Taylor, and supporting her then-husband putting a naked wax doll next to him in bed in a music video - and filming the whole set up & posting it on platforms - that represented Taylor) and if she didn’t keep using Taylor as a way to stay relevant, I might agree about the drama. But the fact is this person has brought it on themselves. Their mother suggested she apologise, to which she refused (publicly on her show) and has refused to apologise ever since. There’s been no remorse shown for what she put Taylor through and most people have been bullied at some level. There’s so many people in & out of the industry who sing Taylor’s praises as a person, saying she’s compassionate, generous, and authentic in her kindness & connection. So if she needs to write diss tracks to let out her feelings, and help her fans that have been through - or are going through - bullying, letting them know they’re not alone & giving them songs to help them know it gets better, so be it.
As per Vigilante Shit, she doesn’t start it but she ends it. People can’t say they haven’t been warned. Just be a good person, and apologise & show remorse for when you’ve wronged someone, and you’ll live without being the villain in someone’s story.

I think the drama already exists and it’s exists on the world’s stage. We all know what happened between them, but Kim’s never been held responsible or even called out by the masses…meanwhile the world claimed Taylor was “drunk on her own tears” (see Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me?) when speaking on it all. Somethings can be worked through, but somethings are ‘fuck-you-forever.’ And with this album being about Taylor’s relationships with herself, her lovers, her fans, the media, the industry, and her scandals this song feels very appropriate.

I will tell you something, many people dream of getting back at their bullies one way or another. it has kept us at night thinking of ways, Taylor has a way for her outlet and has done it very gracefully. she is saying this is how you made me feel and this is how you made me heal.

you have realize that Taylor was already a huge star when this happened and KK almost managed to end her, back then Taylor was criticized for everything she did and never cared but KK somehow came so close to end her in a big way, in a way that if you recover you will forever have this resentment.. so people act like, why can't you get over it??? you can barely get over the little bullying you received in school, now you have to imagine what it's like to get discredited publicly not in your high school but in front of the world not just but 350 students but millions of people calling you names and wishing you disappeared... I don't care how old you get, I find this impossible to get over it and I hope if she isn't over it she continues to do this until she feels is time to move on. Everyone does it the same way, when the time comes it just happens, you wont be able to force her time because it is up to her not to us.

As Taylor says "I don't start shit but Imma tell you how it ends"...
Taylor writing this song wasn't her starting drama. It is an ongoing response to drama that Kim and Kanye basically assaulted her with and never apologised for.
Responding to and defending yourself against drama is not ugly or petty. Attacking someone without any provocation is ugly. That is petty and unnecessary.

I think the key question you're dancing around is whether people who don't know about the very specific drama Taylor Swift is alluding to can still relate to the song, and I think the answer is probably yes. Even for someone who doesn't realize that the title of the song (sort of) spells out "Kim" and that that name almost certainly refers to the very public drama between TS, KK, and Kanye, my guess is that plenty of people can relate to the concept of looking back at a very formative bullying experience.

She has every right to write about anything she chooses, especially when it is something or someone who has had such a huge impact on her life. As a musician yourself I'm quite surprised that you feel otherwise. 👎

Kim really activated the power of the Kardashian media machine against Taylor during that time. She did her best to destroy Taylor. It was brutal. Taylor was humiliated, said nothing at the time. She just left public eye for over a year and struggled w her mental health for a long time. Kim and Kanye were 10+ years older than her and there was no reason for them to go after her. They just seemed to do it for their own publicity and entertainment. It was very public and targeted. I think those scars run deep still and I don’t think Taylor’s done. Everyone expects the vault tracks on the Reputation album re-record to come out swinging. TS feels strong now and is able to let some of the steam out of the pressure cooker. I’m definitely here for it. Anyone with scars from the biggest bully in their past sings this song at the top of their voice.
I fully believe she’ll be done with it after she releases Reputation (Taylor’s Version). Until then she’ll provide lots of anthems for people who have or are experiencing bullying.
Also, writing/singing about her personal stuff is pretty much Taylor’s whole brand. lol
