  • Sorry for the long wait on this. I have been digging through old files and finally came across this again. This is the complete video I received years ago. I was given a disk with this digital copy. I don't remember who made the disk. It was copied from a VHS tape. There were tracking issues with the tape, and I believe it was an edited recording - not the original. This is the most complete version I have found and I believe this is the first version I received. I do seem to remember the VHS tape floating around the Thibodaux dojo, but that was before the digital copy was made.

    Thank you very much for the upload. It is very refreshing to see the classic Shotokan kumite, instead of today's jumping jack style kumite.

    More and more convinced that it is better to lose for Hansoku than to win for Hansoku .... Kokubun is the best. Osu!!

      It's a shitty way to lose/win - particularly in a final. But rules are rules. If blood is drawn it's an automatic Hansoku - trust me, in reality everyone knows who actually "won". Kokubun is an absolute legend!

    Y las catas ?? Porque no las aplican ? Nunca lo hacen en combates

    • @leondavidmunozlozano7973
      @leondavidmunozlozano7973 4 роки тому +1

      Porque las katas no son para aplicarse en un combate sino en defensa personal... Hay una diferencia enorme entre enfrentarse a alguien en una pelea tipo boxeo con reglas y otra defender tu vida de un asaltante en la calle

    • @yeshuaeselmashiaj6037
      @yeshuaeselmashiaj6037 4 роки тому

      Las katas son para la memoria muscular , desarrollar fortaleza en tu cuerpo al mantener las posiciones y lanzar golpes rapidos y saltos o movimientos defensivos. Las katas si se aplican con cada patada y bloqueo que das en el kumite solo que lo haces rapido . A veces es cuestion de golpear y salir de la linea de golpeo del enemigo y ya desde otra posicion lanzar otro golpe.

      You should have a sport spirit, so you have to only simulate a hit, but he punched too strong in the opponents head, and in a sport, it is not acceptable by the judges.

      @@adriancotter7368 True Karate kumite is a test of proper technique execution. To score ½ point or 1 point (ippon), the competitor must demonstrate decisively: timing, distance, accuracy and speed(power). The distance has to be demonstrated so decisively that the judges determine correct sundome(within about 2cm)with absolute control of the distance, that the Karateka could have just as easily changed it to be destructive. Excessive contact demonstrated lack of distance control.

      En Karate hotokan tenemos que tener autocontrol. se puede golpear en la cara pero el contacto debe ser controlado y no causar sangrado. Era una técnica hermosa e Ippon hubiera sido marcado si no hubiera sido tan fuerte como para cortarle los labios al oponente, era evidente la falta de control. Una pena, pero tenemos que entender que, en Karate, tener autocontrol es más importante que ser el mejor luchador.

    This “kokubun” guy (who do not even deserve capital letter) is not, never was and never ever will be a sensei. He is just a very bad loser who, desperately, seeing that he could never win the fight against Sharp, decided to intentionally hit him seriously, out of the rules, in a cowardly way (hansoku = shameful serious intentional fault) so to be disqualified, because losing within the rules would have been an unbearable embarrassment to kokubun’ petty ego. Shame on this miserable and ignoble kokubun, who never practiced karate within the spirit of budo.
