In the movie Light and “Mia” are opposites. In the anime Misa wanted to get in his pants and wanted Light to use her but in the movie its the other way around, Light wants to get laid by “Mia” and “Mia” wants to use him for the Death Note.

Basically to sum up the anime: “You did this, so I did this” To sum up the movie it’s basically: “Japan did a live action already, so we will make this monstrosity”
Now that I think about it, I think the movie would've been better as a whole if it was in the same timeline but different people. Light and Misa were in Japan, these new characters could've been in the US. Totally plausible. It's not like every single anime HAS to be limited to Japan as the "world" it's in. The entire plot could've remained the same, too, even with different characters. I think a lot more people would've accepted it, perhaps not as part of the official canon, but as a spin-off of sorts.
To be honest they could have had Light in Ryuk's place (watch the end of the first Relight movie) and it would have worked much better. An attempt to be Kira's successor while Light keeps trying to direct him down his path while the new guy wants to go down a different path and Near is chasing him. Film ends with new guy on the death penalty, Light kills Near to try and stop it, he dies like Rem, Ryuk does closing narration. Seriously, how hard could it be?
I always thought that L wiping Light's feet was a reference to the Bible and how a woman started rubbing Jesus' feet with expensive oils to be forgiven for her sins. This reference would be used to represent Light's massive ego where he thought he was a messianic figure, whilst L is just trying to figure Light out by getting closer and closer to him. But whatever, Light's last name backwards is "I'm a Gay" so he totally is.
You are probably right because if I remember right in the manga Light gets into a handful of explicitly sexual relationships with women so he can manipulate them
while this might be right, there is also a part in the bible where jesus cleans the feet of the apostles after finding out one of them would betray him and eventually lead to him getting crucified. The scene L cleans lights feet just so happens to be close to L's death. I dont know if this is what inspired the scene, but its just food for thought.

Light should have been Japanese, L should have been Japanese, they should’ve kept Rem, It’s just awful. Also, I used Rem as an example because as I said, L’s death was a MAJOR part in the anime, and for them to remove Rem from the whole movie is awful. To be fair most people assume this cause his relationship with L has always been pretty complex. I personally think it's more that he has a person he relates to and deep down he finds their chess game enjoyable. (Heck they even implied he misses him to an extent when he sees his "ghost" everywhere and in the last episode where Near wears a mask of L he seems genuinely insulted, stating that Near was nothing compared to L and had "no right" to even *attempt* to emulate him.) However do I think it's romantic in nature? Most likely not.

Honestly, it would've worked if it was a new set of characters. The fact that they tried to adapt Light and L immediately set them up for failure.
Now that I think about it, I think the movie would've been better as a whole if it was in the same timeline but different people. Light and Misa were in Japan, these new characters could've been in the US. Totally plausible. It's not like every single anime HAS to be limited to Japan as the "world" it's in. The entire plot could've remained the same, too, even with different characters. I think a lot more people would've accepted it, perhaps not as part of the official canon, but as a spin-off of sorts.
To be honest they could have had Light in Ryuk's place (watch the end of the first Relight movie) and it would have worked much better. An attempt to be Kira's successor while Light keeps trying to direct him down his path while the new guy wants to go down a different path and Near is chasing him. Film ends with new guy on the death penalty, Light kills Near to try and stop it, he dies like Rem, Ryuk does closing narration. Seriously, how hard could it be?

I always thought that L wiping Light's feet was a reference to the Bible and how a woman started rubbing Jesus' feet with expensive oils to be forgiven for her sins. This reference would be used to represent Light's massive ego where he thought he was a messianic figure, whilst L is just trying to figure Light out by getting closer and closer to him.
