As a 14yr old in 1985 this is the single that got me into The Stranglers. Over the following months i bought all their LP's with my pocket money, but none had any lyrics inside....so sometime later when they were all released on CD...i nicked all the inlay books from inside em in 1 visit😀😁😂 ( i couldnt afford the disc ) The best musical discovery of my life.
Today i sadly got the message about Dave Greenfields death. Without Dave Greenfield The Stranglers were not The Stranglers they were. Dave Greenfield was an awesome and so unique keyboard artist, surely one of the best in the world. Dave, we never will forget you. R I P Dave Greenfield.
LOL?! They were & still are (sadly!) massively hugely underrated, the man is right! You can get mad sll you want (and all of us here are fans & we wish that they weren't so underrated but instead hugely mainstreamly popular but that just simply never was the case!) and it is-what it is!
Many people. Do. Often Say that They are Your Friend But It Is True Some Time's You Have to Watch Out For The Skin Deep just How True This Song Can Be Some Time's
Many people tell you that they're your friend You believe them You need them For what's round the river bend Make sure that you're receiving the signals they send 'Cause brother, you've only got two hands to lend Maybe there's someone who makes you weep And some nights loom up ahead When you're asleep Some days there's things on your mind you should keep Sometimes, it's tougher to look than to leap better watch out for the skin deep (Ooh-ooh) better watch out for the skin deep (Brother, watch out) watch out for the skin deep (Brother, watch out) watch out for the skin deep Better watch out for the skin deep One day, the track that you're climbing gets steep Your emotions are frayed And your nerves are starting to creep Just remember the days As long as the time that you keep Brother, you better watch out for the skin deep better watch out for the skin deep (Ooh-ooh) better watch out for the skin deep (Brother, watch out) watch out for the skin deep (Brother, watch out) watch out for the skin deep Better watch out for the skin deep watch out for the skin deep (Brother, watch out) watch out for the skin deep Better watch out for the skin deep
I love this country like my father did, when he made his last holydays before we lost him to cancer. Dear Scots, keep up your tradition, identity and maybe someday your independence.
Skin deep is one of my favourite tunes from the stranglers that was when musicians knew how to make great songs for their fans I go back to hearing all of these songs all over again thanks to the stranglers for bringing such great music for us all to listen to I loved this song away back in 1985 I think when this song hit the uk charts well done guys Colin Corcoran
Lata 80te, Lista Przebojów w Trójce, muza, życie codzienne, wszystko czym wtedy żyliśmy... Napisałem i wydałem o tym książkę "Mój rok 1984". "Skin deep" to był jeden z moich hitów jesieni '84. Wysłuchałem tego jakieś 150 razy w ciągu miesiąca:) Zachęcam do lektury, pozdrawiam, Artur
I heard this song on the Jimmy Saville show on a Sunday years ago on the radio, and ever since then, it has, and always will be my favourite song. Never get tired of it.
Back in 85 I was having a really terrible trip until by chance this clip came on the TV and changed my head space entirely. For some strange reason it cheered me right up. Guess you had to be there.
Totally understand sir! BTW - love the username. You could even call yourself Squarey McSquareface. Can't imagine where I got that idea from... Just a thought :-)
I agree. Hugh was by far the best front man ever. I saw the Stranglers a few months ago and it was the first time I have seen them since Hugh left. Although they are still a great band they really miss a frontman ( especially Hugh !!) I was lucky enough to see Mark 1 Stranglers nine times and although he got more distant towards the end of the 80's Hugh was the coolest , wittiest , menacing and intelligent frontmen I ever saw . His moves were not groovy at all though !!
I saw Hugh earlier this week at the Brickyard, Carlisle. He opened the second set of the gif with this song followed by a whole load of classic Stranglers tracks. Brill
I remember this song being on the 'Hits' compilation album that was supposed to rival the 'Now That's What I Call Music" series. I fell in love with it then. I remember Paul Young's 'I'm Gonna Tear Your Playhouse Down' and Meatloaf's 'Modern Girl' also being on it. Hugh has said Dave was nearly in tears when him and John asked him to play his keyboards in a key he wasn't happy with but they were right, whole song is class👌
The Stranglers made wonderful music. For me, it's the juxtapositon of their sometimes raucous playing and singing style, next to the relatively civilised keyboard sounds which does it every time.
I'm 66 years young now and their music and lyrics still excellent long live the Stranglers ❤
Many more to You Pops!
Great track, nobody knows what flipping the disk means.
Same. We lived through the best eras of music. 👍
Totally agreeing..our era had the ground breaking..and now...😢
Timeless classic.
Bin 55 und sie haben mich bis jetzt begleite in meinem verrückten Leben

What can i say about the stranglers absolutely brilliant they are one of the most underrated bands in music history legends
At the top of their game. Just fantastic. ☺
Only underated by the ignorant.
How do you know they're underrated? Did you travel the globe taking a poll?
LOL?! They were & still are (sadly!) massively hugely underrated, the man is right! You can get mad sll you want (and all of us here are fans & we wish that they weren't so underrated but instead hugely mainstreamly popular but that just simply never was the case!) and it is-what it is!

This band were so versatile! My favourite song by the lads
Most of the time the catchiest songs have a killer message.
Always loved this song! Greetings from Germany!
Lot of wisdom in these lyrics, the older I get, the more I realise this.
In 1985 I was 16.
This Song has being me electrified from beginning
Among other things, in my opinion this is one of their *Best* songs. The whole video is fantastic! ... *WELL DONE*
I love these guys.
Class, as a young lad never took any notice of the lyrics....as you get older many songs you listen too deeper and realise how much they really mean
Many people tell you that they're your friend
You believe them
You need them
For what's round the river bend
Make sure that you're receiving the signals they send
'Cause brother, you've only got two hands to lend
Maybe there's someone who makes you weep
And some nights loom up ahead
When you're asleep
Some days there's things on your mind you should keep
Sometimes, it's tougher to look than to leap
better watch out for the skin deep
(Ooh-ooh) better watch out for the skin deep
(Brother, watch out) watch out for the skin deep
(Brother, watch out) watch out for the skin deep
Better watch out for the skin deep
One day, the track that you're climbing gets steep
Your emotions are frayed
And your nerves are starting to creep
Just remember the days
As long as the time that you keep
Brother, you better watch out for the skin deep
better watch out for the skin deep
(Ooh-ooh) better watch out for the skin deep
(Brother, watch out) watch out for the skin deep
(Brother, watch out) watch out for the skin deep
Better watch out for the skin deep
watch out for the skin deep
(Brother, watch out) watch out for the skin deep
Better watch out for the skin deep
Yes brother, that's exactly what he's saying and truthfully he speaks 👍
Live and learn ☹️
I love this country like my father did, when he made his last holydays before we lost him to cancer. Dear Scots, keep up your tradition, identity and maybe someday your independence.
Rest in peace dear Dave Greenfield 😥🎹🎹🎹today u passed away and we are very sad of ur loss.

Keep coming back again and again for this song. Makes more sense the older I get.
