- Nastia Liukin's beam routine at the 2008 Pac Rims.
When I say 'Greatest' I mean in the open ended scoring system.

Score: 16.400 (6.600, 9.800)
The execution is remarkable, there were days when beam was not all about broken connections and wobbles, I believe I am getting old :)
The 2008 American team was incredibly strong on beam. Nastia, Shawn, Chellsie, Sam, ASac.
Yes, and those days were 10+ years ago. Gymnastics has changed, whether you believe for better or worse, but this is the sport we have today and it’s still very enjoyable to watch. We also have to remember these women HAD to be near perfect, otherwise Marta wouldn’t have given them a chance🤷🏼♂️
Nastia’s long lines are absolutely gorgeous to watch on bars and beam wow but a small powerful athlete like Shawn on floor and vault are equally amazing. Like apples and oranges can’t compare and love both
I wouldn't say "the greatest" beam routine as there have been so many over the 80's and 90's.. but certainly one of the greatest gymnasts of all time, thats for sure! Love Nastia!
I'll never tire watching this routine. The ease at which she attacks each element is striking.
I smile when I clearly hear Shawn say "nice."
I clicked expecting to see Yang Bo. Joke aside, Nastia did this.
Amazing! I will never get tired of watching nas perform beam and bars!!! Her Pacific rim 2008 routines were AMAZING 😍 she connected her series perfectly, and stuck the dismount ❤
This was a beautiful routine.
Have you seen Yang Bo in the late 80’s with her pigtails. She was phenomenally incredible.
What a beautiful flowing routine.
so graceful, elegant, confident, great lines, gorgeous legs, one of the best bar's ever!!!!
Beam not bars.
This is great and her AA beam was just as good and under immense pressure
OMG I’m impressed she looks so pretty as well cheers from Sydney Australia ❤
Flawless routine from a beautiful , elegant gymnast. But the routines from Olessia Dudnik in 1989 and the ones from Tatiana Lysenko, Yang Bo etc I think were in a different league of difficulty, with perfect execution to go with it. Or katlyn ohasi for that matter. Love to all of them ❤
Really wonderful performance congratulations 👌👌👌
Not a single balance check! Wow
Nuts! Especially that Onodi to the full-twisting wolf jump.
The full turn had the slightest check
@@Theogisfunnybeas And after arabesque skill too. A little little wooble
It is a great one for sure but I don’t know about the greatest…I feel like some connections were a little slow, don’t kill me but it seemed like it. It’s top 5 tho for sure in my opinion
There is no objective greatest of course. But this is maybe the highest E score on beam
It is perfect 😍 ❤❤❤❤❤
My personal favorite beam worker of all time. However, I would say that Fan Ye’s routine in the beam final at the 2003 worlds is about as perfect as you can be.
Holy moly ❤
It was executed to perfection. She was the reason I watched women gymnastics.
Best ever!
So best ever!
Very nice!
Yessa!
It could be one of the greatest back then, but nowadays not a single connection from this routine would be counted. Or occur deduction 0.1 for slow connection on every skill.
She performed it so well here those long lines and flexibility are so gorgeous to see
Very nice execution of artistry *and* gymnastic ability. You can tell she started dance at the same time as gymnastics...okay I'm making that up, but she has the turnout and form of a seasoned ballet dancer.
Perfect 10
I don’t know Shannon Miller had some great routines and Shawn Johnson from Olympic qualifying was pretty incredible. Yang Bo.
Would score about 14.3 these days --> 5.2 difficulty, 9.1 execution.
1E 6D 1C, 0.2 for dismount bonus, 0.2 for connection , it should be 5.6 difficulty
@@limxiaoqing97061 She doesn't have any E move, her switch ring gets downgraded to a switch leap these days (lack of head release), and she has no connection bonus because her connections in the routine are too slow.
@@ZuranthiumI think the switch ring won't be downgraded, but will get e score deduction. the CV quite depends on judges favour
Agree that switch ring won’t get credit it has no arch and head release. That front aerial to one foot is not a skill anymore. All acro series need to be rebounding so no CV there. Also that wolf 1/1 is downgraded to wolf 1/2 only since you need to finish the twist first before showing the full. Switch half front leg is low.
@@TJ-bd5iq It's funny cuz I always think of Nastia as having the exemplary switch half, and I still think that's true, but agree that in the current code she still gets a body shape deduction, maybe just a tenth though. Because the Code's version of "perfection" has become this platonic ideal of skills that has very little connection to how skills -- especially high difficulty ones -- are actually performed.
WoW
Great routine. Give me Liu Xuan 2000 EF, Kui Yuan Yuan Worlds IMPECCABLE execution and huge difficulty, and Yang Bo, because... Yang Bo.
TEN!
I'm a shawn beam fan. They were good frinemies for comps
Yeah that was a fun time with the battle between them and narrative of rivals on the same team. Like a movie. Sometimes stuff plays out perfectly in sports that you couldn’t even script. I prefer Nastia aesthetically, but it’s cool that they both got Olympic gold!
Yowza. Pretty damn good.
Foot flexed on switch leap
There’s a video micro-judging this routine and still come up with a good e-score. 😢
Not really BUT it’s still superb work tbh and I’m not the biggest Nastia fan either. Her style shines on beam the most imo
This routine was so elegant, gives me Nadia Comaneci vibes
What did she score though
@@flipstwists wow 9.8, thats unheard of these days
The dismount seems like a cop-out. It looks easy compared to other dismounts
in the old days, that would have been a 10- but I doubt we'll ever see the 10.0 (for performance, before technical) again.
Amazing until her switch ring, she doesn't get that head back. But I'm picking, this was stunning. So confident and smooth.
Watch Shawn Johnson's routine. Even better.
OMG!! 😍👏🏻👏🏻
it's definitely one of the greatest but i wouldn't say THE greatest because she doesn't have a lot of back flexibility and nowadays that would be a significant deduction.
Still think Shawn Johnson’s routine is way better. She deserved the gold.
If she did this in EF she would have beat Shawn
Not sure about that as Shawn hit her routine and had higher difficulty.
She would have definitely beat Shawn with this routine. As it was, Nastia was barely behind Shawn with a big hop on the landing and an awkward exit from the switch ring. The judges also went really light on Shawn’s e-score in that final - even her tumbling pass was off and she landed tilted to one side; the full twist was janky as well.
I wouldn't say "greatest of all time" beam routine... SUI LU's routine in 2012 olympics has more difficulty for example. and many other more. but yes nastia is a phenomenon gymnast. lover her!
Great routine, but a couple of the connections were slow. Switch ring not quite to her head. Routine not very difficult.
For that time period, nearly perfect apart from crossed feet, pause before the wolf jump 1/1, kinda wonky L turn, and ring position. Here are my deductions in the current code
*Realistically I think this would get a 9.0 E score
0.1 pause before the front aerial
0.1 slow connection between the aerial and BHS
0.1 on the L turn (can't put my finger on exactly what the issue was lol)
maybe 0.1 slow connection of the sheep jump because judges are brain dead
0.1-0.3 position on the sheep jump
0.3 leg separation on the side somi
0.1 slow connection of the wolf jump 1/1
0.3 position on the ring jump
maybe 0.1 pause before dismount
0.1 crossed legs on dismount
E score: 8.4-8.8 but can't imagine they'd go lower than like an 8.9
I searched many beam routines over the years, and Nastia's is the 2nd best of all time in my opinion. The only one to beat her is Yang Bo's routine at the 1990 World Cup. ua-cam.com/video/5hPNs05BbXY/v-deo.html
Just watched, it was beautiful but she did have a noticeable balance check, no?
@@stereotypea123 which part?
Kui Yuan Yuan at Worlds and Liu Xuan 2000 EF in my opinion are better.
Great Routine! Yang Bo was better
Insert sarcasm: of course an American is not the one with a perfect beam score…only the Russians and Romanians do that! (Heavy sarcasm). I loved Nastia’s beam.
I’m starting to believe that I detect a little sarcasm in that statement.
Finger painting compared to SJ…
ρгό𝔪σŞm 💕
Actually, I feel the greatest routine goes to Yang Bo from the 1989 China Cup. Absolutely flawless. What sets Yang Bo apart is she has the elegance like Nastia but also the incredible tumbling. Yang Bo was the complete package. So this was nearly 20 years prior to Nastia's routine. Remarkable. ua-cam.com/video/901Ka86eMLs/v-deo.html
@@flipstwists As I just stated my opinion that the video I posted was the best routine ever, regardless how you want to put it. Nastia's routine is magnificent, but Yang Bo's is even better.
@@flipstwists OMG You are actually pathetic. I give an opinion on your post about something and you are going to fight me on it. For someone that is looking for views, you are completely ignorant. I made a statement and an opinion. It is MY OPINION. You do not have to agree with it. And NO, it isn't irrelevant. You actually don't even know the definition of the word. I think what really is in question here is your lack of intelligence as well as maturity. Now storm...
@@pappysprite well then ur first comment is irrelevant. I wasn't showing the greatest routine of ALL TIME, just the best in the open ended scoring system
Good routine but not the greatest, the 80's had the best beam workers.
This isnt even close to being the greatest beam routine ever,
Extremely good, but Shannon Miller was better.
Disegree
Honestly she isn't the best beamer, there are plenty of great beam workers far better than her
Cătălina Ponor,for exemple.
Sure Catalina Ponor, Sui Lu, Silivaș, etc
Nastia Liukin is definitely NOT the greatest beam performer. She’s solid and captivating at times, but also a little robotic. She is easily surpassed by gymnasts such as Catalina Ponor, Yang Bo and Aurelia Dobre.
I have no respect for Nastia Luken. She took three years off,and at Olympic trials Nastia Luken fell off the uneven bars.Gymnasts are the only athletes that take such long breaks. This kept her from qualifying for the London Olympic Games in 2012.
While this was a great routine, I would direct one toward Fan Ye 2003 worlds for a ‘perfect’ routine❤
