I commend anybody who participates in a drawing challenge like this. I have yet to try it myself, but always enjoy seeing what others come up with when they are doing it!
I fell behind and haven't done my inktober drawings in a few days but they are already in my head. I tend to procrastinate and overwhelm myself. Thanks for the encouragement (you are my go-to for art encouragement) I'll carve out some time today.
Thank you so much, Lindsay Carr! That's really nice of you to say! As for falling behind, it's okay. Try not to let that overwhelmed feeling creep in and keep you from the enjoyment of creating your work. I speak from experience when I say that if you do feel overwhelmed, scale back to simplicity. If you have the idea in your head, get it out as simply and quickly as to succeed with executing it. There's always time later to come back and revisit the idea and flesh it out in more detail. Fun. That's the key word! Best wishes! ~ Mark
I think Inktober is a challenge where you pick the parts you enjoy, skip the ones you don't and realize the reason for it is to have fun. Don't make it work unless the purpose is to further your work. I'm not an artist, just need the "therapy" of immersing in something as consuming as multimedia art. I've used this month to delve into some inky things I wanted to try or use more, India inks, Inktense, some collage INK stamping/designing that I've wanted to do. I knew that I wouldn't follow along with the prompts when I interpreted Day 2 "Suit" as an invitation to draw something that "Suits" me. So I drew a nice bouquet of roses, ha-ha. I got about to day 5 and then moved on to meet my own goals....oh and one of those goals is to vicariously experience the Inky month through amazing artists. So here I am.
Thank you, so much! I am absolutely loving your work, as well! Your "Compass" scout is probably my favorite. Just everything about it. Do you feel you're work is at a different level from last year or have you pretty much stayed consistent? I appreciate your time watching and leaving a comment. Thank you! ~ Mark
@@MDCampbell Thanks Mark, I wasn't very prepared in advance for Inktober 2021 this year so I wasn't sure if my prompts were going to be any good since they weren't planned out ahead of time. Mark your picture was wonderful to watch, how the different layering of ink shading impacted on those inktense pencils. Such a great watch, yep think I learnt a lot. I totally agree with you, Mark.. Although I do presketch all my drawings due to content and time... It keeps me on track and allows me to make a video everyday. No, Connie McConnell, it's not just you - you're absolutely right and I wish more people would realize that exact implication and how making it into something competitive or ego-raising can be detrimental. For me, I troll through three different Inktober groups and comment on as much work by other people as I can. My goal is to always find something positive and unique and support those artists in their endeavor. I've met some truly inspiring personalities this way, several of which I've known and communicated with for about five years now. That, to me, is the purpose of posting - to encourage, support, and provide necessary feedback to people who are looking for it and, in some cases, need it. I know from my own Facebook page when I post a drawing, I might get 7 likes and if I'm lucky, someone saying, "Cool!" I think if people post to compete as though there's a "prize" to win, then they are out of luck and missing the true benefits of the challenge. Those who go in to be part of a community, share in the joys and pitfalls, and find that unique support by other artists ranging from terrible to outrageously skilled, then I think those are the true "winners." I hope that all made sense! lol! Thank you for a wonderful comment. Be well! ~ Mark
I'm skipping Inktober this year in favor of other prompt lists like Doodlewash's. Partly due to last year's controversy and partly due to exploring other prompts from other creators. It took me until halfway through the month to catch up because I was a bit burnt out during the first half of October, and I made the mistake of not writing down the prompt list on paper sooner after downloading them on my phone. Luckily, for me to catch up, I repeated last year's method of splitting the page size into small pieces. This time, I split a 12x9 to six pieces, making them squares. Still a lot of work with limited time, and so much to do to not be burnt out.
(My understanding is that UA-cam content creators get some level of compensation for people actually watching the associated ads, so I let those run in the background while I type comments. Following this video, there was an ad of a couple minutes followed by one that was well over an hour. That's pretty stinky. So I didn't watch it all. 😕)
Very interesting, Lori-Louise Hubbard. I'm glad you shared that. YT does not allow much control over the way ads work, but I try to disable things like "mid rolls" which are ads that play right in the middle of a video. I'm not in it for the money, like some folks, so it mostly falls off my radar. I don't blame you for not watching. I skip the videos all the time.
@@MDCampbell Thank you for disabling the mid-rolls!! I'm glad you are able to disregard the monetization of UA-cam; on the other hand, your videos are consistently helpful for me, so I love knowing that me letting the ads play out may help you get compensated for all you give!
love your work, but I feel like I'm having a senior moment, are these last years prompts? Did you say that and I missed it because I'm listening while I work (multitasking is not a good idea for watching art video's :D )
Interesting thoughts re feedback...I bet there would be many artists who would make use of the opportunity to submit their work to receive constructive, qualified feedback. I would be one who would take advantage of such an opportunity and would also get something out of watching feedback provided to others. I know you are busy but perhaps this is a service you might provide? But then again, you may get flooded. I am unaware of a channel focused solely on giving feedback.

I hope that all made sense!
Have you done this drawing before? It seems really, really familiar to me
Indeed, this was a solution for a previous inktober. I didn't want to spoil any solutions for this year's challenge. :)
Did you say that and I missed it because I'm listening while I work (multitasking is not a good idea for watching art video's :D )
lol, rewatched and looked at the screen at the right time 2nd time round :)
