- FAQ: What's up with the jumpy teleports at the start of room 3 and 4? Is this spliced?
A: Nah, in the options you can set up a quick restart button for the room you're in, and disable the graphical effects for it. So when I enter those rooms, I press quick restart and the game starts me further forward than if I ran forward normally. Check out more katana zero speedruns and you'll see it's a standard thing. I sincerely appreciate people's commitment to wanting speedruns to be honest so no worries if you got tripped up, it looks super sketchy lol.
Q: Your game doesn't look anything like mine, the sword slices are super smooth and there's no screenshake.
A: There's lots of graphical and gameplay settings you can change in the menu, such as disabling hitstop when killing enemies and screenshake etc. I'm using settings that let me play as fast as possible.

For those of you wondering why Gamma Nulls like Fifteen and Zero use swords, it’s because you don’t need to reload a sword, and there are just so many people to kill
Looking at how slowing time and time-jumping works in the game i always assumed that its just more dangerous to use guns. It looks like the Nulls cannot warp time anything outside their touch so the moment bullets leave the gun barrel they are no longer within the time-warping powers of the user which would make more difficult to move around and keep those bullets in mind. We can see that during the fight with the headhunter as she is not using her SMG with time powers instead she uses the laser gun with her time-warping abilities.
@@user-eo2hk2it5i Admittedly this info isn't immediately obvious, but NULLs aren't reality warpers, instead they are somehow able to create an infinite (or simply so large it's effectively infinite) number of incredibly accurate simulations in their minds within fractions of a second. What we play are simply one of those attempts, and it's implied in Headhunter's dialogue that there are some attempts we aren't shown or maybe that they just exist only in the other NULL's mind. The flashbacks shown after completing a level are the successful attempts actually being executed. But NULLs aren't impossible to kill or trap and their simulations sometimes fail as shown by the mine in the Mansion level, the suicide bomber in Bunker and by the Psychiatrist's hallucinogen (the way that drug works is pretty strange; maybe he wore it as perfume that day or something?).
But HeadHunter is a Gamma Null too but she uses weapons

I don't think Headhunter's a gamma. In the dialogue she never refers to herself as one. It's something along the line of "so you're a gamma just like Fifteen." Judging by her skills she was a beta or alpha most likely. She was able to compete against Zero pretty evenly, but in a prolonged fight his simulations were ultimately stronger.
@Creatotron Well we don't know if Zero isn't, he is shown to have amnesia so he might unlock those abilities later on, who knows.
And as for changing perception... well, i don't know if you guys remember but 15 is teleport-slashing and Headhunter is just teleporting very quickly in different locations, no way this is just "perception" as we do see (at least 15) on the camera tapes just teleporting. This is a power

Man, I can't even seem to swing the sword this fast....
There's a bunch of option settings that effectively speed up the game for speed running. Things like turning hitstop all the way down makes it so the game doesn't freeze briefly every time you kill someone or deflect. It feels super different and when I first changed it I died a million times before it felt normal!

@@sklepbezschodu8102 ah! I forget all the exact settings but you can change a bunch of stuff in options. For example, I believe I have hitstop and screenshake set to 0, restart vfx off, quick restart on. That's why there's no 'stop' when hitting enemies, and no fuzzy effects when rewinding.

I think the two clear time saves without new strats are: Near the end of room 3 if I waited a tiny bit longer before rolling, I could kill the guards in the doorway with a downward slash and fall to the bottom floor cleanly but that whole floor is very tight on timing. Room 4 the movement and kill on the floor 3 guy is a bit loose.
The first thought that went through my head when you deflected all those bullets was “now this is the dragon”
You have to be insane to be able to pull this off. Repeating the same level over and over and over again so that you can beat it like this.
You must have spent a HOT MINUTE on KZ to be able to react that good and memorise the floor that well to know how things will play out

And hopefully with the 3× larger expansion we will get to use the Dragon some more which I'm sure you'd enjoy
Yeah! In fact, I only really learned this level because the dragon is so cool - I can't speedrun even one other tape lol. Dying for more flash step shenanigans in the future.

There's a setting in the menus to make the dash length default to maximum! So if you tap the button you'll go wherever you're headed real quick

Why after deflecting bullets you have zero camera shake andits goes smoothly?
hey, i'm a bit late but in case you're still wondering:
if you go into your options settings, there's a lot of visual options you can change. i did this years ago so i don't remember the exacts but i've turned screenshake off and probably for the smoothness you want to turn off "hitstop" as well. it makes the game run sooo smooth which also makes the game faster in real time!
oh also, i have 'quick restart' (or something like that) turned on, which makes it so when you press the retry button you don't get the rewind visual effects, it just instantly reloads the room. you can see that used at the start of a couple rooms since your initial spawn point is further back than the restart point.

in katana zero, speedrunners use 'quick restart' and 'disable restart vfx' in the options menu, which makes restarts look like that. The spots where I restart make me begin further forward, to save time. Check out good speedrunners and you'll see the same thing! Cheers :)
@@FayeOkay that would mean you cut at least two different gameplays into two, because the timer would stay the same (quick restart at 25 secs makes your next attempt start at 25). splicing, you just admitted to splciing.
@@phdonny No, it's all one run. 'Quick restart' reloads the current room as if you died, not 'restarting the level'. Not sure how to help you understand but try turning off restart vfx and setting a button to quick restart in game and try it yourself! You'll see how it works. edit: check the current verified best IL from speedrun.com and you'll see how it's all 1 attempt. Katana zero speedruns DO look sketchy if you don't know all the mechanics so no worries

You can actually pull that one off if you practice, just hit the guard near the door, slash behind you to reflect and kill the Shield guard, slash the other way and slash other way again, then proceed
