    Absolute best therapy is getting out and doing exactly this. A huge plus is the excellent photo ops for that long lens. Never done this place, now on my list. thanks!

    • @RachelWhelton
      @RachelWhelton  Місяць тому

      Yeah, I sure felt rusty with the camera. At one point two loons came right up near my kayak and I couldn't take their picture because I was holding the big lens (which cannot focus that close by). Of course I should have used my phone but I was too slow to realize and then they were a far distance again.

      Yes, the sounds were SO good there. The cameras didn't catch the birds enough, especially the owls. I have been looking for a special microphone for that but maybe it doesn't exist. I have a couple old ones that might do the job so I should try them again.

    My friends camp there every year. It seems like a fun time, paddling to your camp. One day I need to join them. Pretty sweet they have a taxi boat service!

    • @RachelWhelton
      @RachelWhelton  Місяць тому

      Yeah, the tax service was 50 bucks one way. So I was pretty determined to paddle back on my own and keep the money. I saw a family that seemed to be going back and forth to their site on a week long trip. I was thinking, "are they paying 50 bucks every time?" Still cheaper than a hotel I guess. It's just a really fun place and every year sounds good to me.

    Amazing video. Excellent way to get out and enjoy nature while healing from your injury without any additional stress on your knee. Your camera is amazing, stunning work 🤩 I’ve been shopping for Sony cameras and went with the RX 100Vii due to its flexibility and cost. Your anchors for the platform are ingenious.

      I booked this reservation before injuring my knee. So I wasn't sure how it would go. But I am so glad it worked out. The Sony is my favorite camera of all time because it helps me avoid errors. The electronic viewfinder for example is something I want forever now. And the Sony autofocus is the best of any camera I've owned.

    I went back to rewatch when you injured yourself. Very sorry. Ouch. I hurt my knee barely using it and to be honest it took me nearly 2 years to feel near-completely healed. Of course, I am about 10 years your senior at 73. I was quite the hiker aka jock for my time. Always doing a project to stay physically active. I find such comfort, peace, joy watching you get out there again. They are like (as they say) Zen moments. I also like your bit of wry humor, your elation at spotting something unique during your adventures. Mesmerized by your night sky offerings. Heck, I even like watching you prepared, cook and eat your meals. I am amazed you take time and gear to grind coffee, or chop vegs at the camp sites. All in all, I find you a very pleasurable person, hardly a grinch. ;) Keep at it, thanks for sharing.

    "Shall I disembark?" cracked me up! Continuing with the nautical theme, l have a cool eagle story. Autumn 1988, I was the 3rd Mate on the USNS Sealift Arctic (an oil tanker) and we made a trip to Kodiak and the Aleutians to resupply some military installations with fuel oils. In Kodiak, I was trying to raise the Jack flag on the jack staff at the bow. The jack staff is a small flagpole. I was looking down, trying to attach the halyard clips to the flag when l heard a whooshing sound. I looked up as a giant bald eagle landed on top of the jack staff about six feet from my head. It just looked at me inquisitively as I retreated to a safer distance. I couldn't believe how huge it was. It was an amazing experience. Anyway, I really enjoyed your video and I am definitely adding this place to my places to visit.

      This is a very important comment to me (thanks) because you mention the music. While injured, I paused my music account with Epidemic Sound to save a few bucks. And I couldn't decide if I really like it, or if I am just being lazy to avoid getting true sound. Sometimes it is very difficult to record true ambient sound. It comes out sounding different and that is when music helps set the mood where it should be. By the next video, my music account will be active again. But I really appreciate hearing that a regular viewer noticed it was missing. Thanks!
