You mentioned “if the band got back together…” Well, they sort of did, kind of. So, now that you’ve heard Box Car Racer (Tom Delonge, Travis Barker, David Kennedy) you need to listen to Angels & Airwaves’ (Tom Delonge, David Kennedy, Atom Willard, Ryan Sinn) “We Don’t Need To Whisper”. That was Tom’s new band once blink broke up which he considered to be a direct follow up to this band and record. I warn you, if you don’t know anything about Angels, prepare for a total 180°.
AVA to me I feel is just too futuristic 🤷🏾♂️! I couldn’t get with the spacey kind of shit from them. Certain fans are saying Tom nowadays having a dryspell and it could be from him doing different kinds of music. Mark style has always been his style, he never made a song like “Dammit” again. Which is honestly my favorite Blink 182 song! Cause it’s so real to core. About relationships and things happen that you have to move up from no matter how much it hurts. Something happened to his voice after recording that song and doing a show that day or something. So that’s why he doesn’t yell on the mic no more
@@poppunknerd182 I know, but Travis introduced him to that kind of music after Enema. You can start to hear it in his songwriting in parts of TOYPAJ. There was also less than a year separation from TOYPAJ coming out, and Tom starting BCR
Funny you say that because Mark and Tom have said they hate this album being thought of as their fun summertime album. They wanted more stuff like What Went Wrong and Stay Together for the Kids and the label wanted First Date and The Rock Show.
@@sumspring4112 yeah it's a shame. Would love to hear what songs didn't make it to that album. Stay Together and Please Take Me Home are some top tier songs though.
I'm sorry that you didn't enjoy this album when we were younger, I'm forever in love with this album, I like blink 182, but when I heard this album when I was 14, I thought, this is it, this is the kind of sound that I like, heavy, melodic, I wanted a second album so much.
Sadly that second album will never come and I’m trying to understand why hasn’t a second album occurred. Tom basically looked at AVA the continuation of Boxcar Racer which I don’t believe it is. AVA sounds so futuristic vs Boxcar Racer being what it was! It was emo, dark, depressing, and yearnful of wanting things you can never have. I been a fan of Blink 182 since I was 12 years old. But I stumbled across Boxcar Racer real late at 20 years old. That album was literally everything I been feeling at that time especially wanting a relationship. “There Is” describe me perfectly.
@@91Definite I couldn't identify with AVA, I've been listening to Blink since I was 12 years old, I discovered Boxcar in 2002, at the time I was already very involved in the new metal scene and other styles, when I heard Boxcar, I immediately became a fan, I I love this type of sound, are there any other bands with a similar sound? love this album! great video. And I & Elevator are definitely my favs. Fun fact The track "Terrified" off Blinks new album was a Boxcar b-side that Tom wanted to keep off the album because he thought it was so good he wanted it to be a Blink track exclusively. Also bro, you gotta do a Rancid album, recommend starting with Selftitled (2000) or Indestructible (2003)

I kinda knew that! Cause why would Tom do a side project without Mark speaking about it? He probably showed Mark certain songs he wanted to do with Blink 182 and Mark refused. You never know Tom is definitely an artists that cares about his art. He probably took that as disrespect and it hurt him to believe Mark ain’t believe these songs he wrote can be hits
This is such a great album. Enema is my favorite blink album, followed by TOYPAJ, their new album one more time, and then Dogs Eating Dogs EP. I think you’ll dig the musicianship in the new album for sure. Terrified is a re recorded boxcar song and turpentine is a vibe.
Knowing what BCR is w the blink history, this album is what they could've been. Especially after hearing TERRIFIED off the newest album. Life robbed us after Untitled
I adore this album, I think Untitled by Blink actually does kind of take a lot of ideas from this album and implements them. You probably heard the singles a million times, and I do like those singles, but the album as a whole is great and if you liked this better than you like blink, it's worth a listen. I think this idea of listening to stuff you used to hate with a new perspective is really cool, and you're better than me for being able to do it. Even as an adult, I still struggle to listen to a lot of stuff that falls into genres I dislike, though I'm definitely more open than I used to be. Great video! Also, that guitar tone is fantastic. I have to attribute the pop punk I loved growing up largely to Jerry Finn the producer of a ton of them. After Jerry Finn passed, a lot of bands I used to love started sounding worse, in my opinion. He did a lot of Blink and Green Day and his contributions to the genre cannot be overstated.
The saying „everybody can be replaced“ definitely doesn’t apply to Jerry Finn. I can‘t overstate how much I love the sound (especially the guitars) of the records he worked on.
Yes that's Tim Armstrong, Rancid vocalist and he's also in the Transplants which is a "supergroup" with Tim, Rob Aston and Travis Barker on drums. And Jordan Pundik is the vocalist for New Found Glory.
Hey dude, sorry for some of the hate comments you're getting. I think it's just people who read your title and immediately jumped to conclusions lol If you ever get to it, you should listen to when your heart stops beating by +44. It's an album mark and Travis made after the blink break up in 2005. "No it isn't" is a song that has since been confirmed to be about Tom but there are rumors that the whole album is basically about him and I think that's pretty interesting
I remember hearing this record for the first time and being bummed as a blink fan at how fucking good it was. Quickly became one of my all-time fave records and I was worried about the future of blink. Blink's new album having a Box Car song on it is crazy full circle shit but I wish Tom and Travis had worked on a follow-up album back in the day. Love this band.
Tom also has a solo album that isn't Blink, Boxcar or Angels. It's 8/9 songs and apart from one track on the new Blink album, it's as close to Boxcar as you can get
@@randy1822001 No doubt, I've heard that too, although it is yet to be confirmed. Blink has captured the sound of all of Tom's ventures, so there's a lot of crossover. There are songs on self-titled and Neighborhoods that have a Boxcar sound as well
BCR's studio album is all Tom and Travis aside from the guest vocals. Tom would most likely never go back to it though because it was a huge point of contention between Tom and Mark all the way up until recently when Mark got dangerously ill and they realized that they didn't want their resentment for each other to outlive Mark.
@@blackmartini7684 The creation of the Box Car Racer side project would cause great division in blink-182, mostly between DeLonge and bassist Mark Hoppus. Hoppus was very interested in being a part of the project, but DeLonge did not want the record to turn into another blink-182 album. DeLonge contended that the invitation of Barker was to refrain from having to pay a studio drummer. Regardless, Hoppus felt betrayed on the side project and it would become an unresolved tension that followed the band for the following few years. "At the end of 2001 it felt like blink-182 had broken up. It wasn't spoken about, but it felt over," he said later. Despite tensions between the two, Hoppus lent vocals to the track "Elevator" and shared early ideas for the next blink-182 album.
Glad you listen in headphones/earbuds, this music deserves it. This whole record is Tom writing/guitar/bass and Travis. He only brought the other guys in to play live. "And I" is my fav.
I recommend checking out blink's untitled album, which is their first album after Boxcar Racer. It's like a continuation of the BCR sound but also experiments with other sounds After that, +44 - When Your Heart Stops Beating is a great album to listen to. That's another side project of blink featuring Mark & Travis and continues with a more experimental sound with alt rock elements
50:58 it is the sound of Indonesian Traditional music instrument called "Gamelan". you can search it on google or youtube. Tom is a genius mixing that instrument with his modern musics
you are awesome my friend! finally reaction i could relate i’m a delonge fan though :) but yeah i liked your vibe so here’s a comment AND a like Also subbed cheers from Kyiv Ukraine ❤
Funny enough, listened to Enema of the State during work and felt it was meh, then ended up listening to the entire Box Car Racer album and being blown away (only listened to I Feel So and There Is, but not the whole album). I really wish their side project became their main project, cause it is their best work ever! Gives me the vibe of Edgewater, Taproot, P.O.D and Pennywise all blended together Also the drums always makes the band, felt that was severely lacking in the Enema of the State album, and I despise the drums in Fear Factory since the kick drums are the equivalent of the St.Anger Snare in every album they make except when they covered Cars
@@andrewlermen right! It deserved a second album, but something about the relationship between him and Mark wouldn’t let him do a second album for some reason. Cause rumors were that Tom decide to do the album without him knowing and asked Travis if he wanted to be apart of the album cause he couldn’t find a drummer or something. That right there kinda did the damage, but Mark decided to be on the last joint “Elevator”. But when Blink 182 got back together for the self titled album? It was great and then some reason Tom and Mark clashed again and I think it was about the “Not Now” song and that it was on the Greatest Hits. It was other reasons why Blink 182 broke up permanently til their next album in 2011.
@@andrewlermen who you telling? There’s a Blink 182 A.I. song of Boxcar Racer. It sounds ok? But who knows how that song would’ve really sounded if Blink 182 recorded that song and not Boxcar Racer. Hey dude, sorry for some of the hate comments you're getting. I think it's just people who read your title and immediately jumped to conclusions lol
If you ever get to it, you should listen to when your heart stops beating by +44. It's an album mark and Travis made after the blink break up in 2005. "No it isn't" is a song that has since been confirmed to be about Tom but there are rumors that the whole album is basically about him and I think that's pretty interesting
This ^ In my opinion it's the best lyrics Mark has ever written
I remember hearing this record for the first time and being bummed as a blink fan at how fucking good it was. Quickly became one of my all-time fave records and I was worried about the future of blink. Blink's new album having a Box Car song on it is crazy full circle shit but I wish Tom and Travis had worked on a follow-up album back in the day. Love this band.
Tom also has a solo album that isn't Blink, Boxcar or Angels. It's 8/9 songs and apart from one track on the new Blink album, it's as close to Boxcar as you can get
Those were supposedly blink demos though.
@@randy1822001 No doubt, I've heard that too, although it is yet to be confirmed.
Blink has captured the sound of all of Tom's ventures, so there's a lot of crossover.
There are songs on self-titled and Neighborhoods that have a Boxcar sound as well
Love your commentary on Blink and Blink-related music!
What do you mean? Mark is literally on the last song of the album
@@blackmartini7684 You had to be there bro
You would like +44 ! As this was Tom’s that is Mark’s magnum opus
It's like a continuation of the BCR sound but also experiments with other sounds
After that, +44 - When Your Heart Stops Beating is a great album to listen to. That's another side project of blink featuring Mark & Travis and continues with a more experimental sound with alt rock elements
Just because it has blink in the title UA-cam doesn’t mean you should recommend it to me. 😂
Nah, this was a W recommendation
heartbreaking to hear when you learn Jerry Finn produced the album. RIP.
Who else started watching this just to wait for cat like thief?
Boxcar slaps. There’s a “Boxcar Racer” song on blinks new album. Also really like the way you do these reviews and reactions.
Terrified is what blink would've sounded like after Untitled imo. 1 song doesn't do justice but the idea is wild
50:58 it is the sound of Indonesian Traditional music instrument called "Gamelan". you can search it on google or youtube. Tom is a genius mixing that instrument with his modern musics
Bro these videos are so damn good 🔥 I really hope you consider checking out Angels and Airwaves - We Don’t Need To Whisper in the future
you are awesome my friend! finally reaction i could relate
i’m a delonge fan though :)
but yeah i liked your vibe so here’s a comment AND a like
Also subbed
cheers from Kyiv Ukraine
❤
Box Car Racer was better then anything Blink put out ever in my opinion. awesome video dude🖤🖤🖤🖤
I think that apart from blink 182's most avid fans, everyone agrees
would love to see you react to their new album, great video dude!
The riff on i feel so reminds me a bit of quicksand.
Letters to god is one of my top 5 all time
Fugazi and The Cure were Tom's top influences for blink182 and Boxcar Racer
And Jawbreaker
Quicksand
Please do the untitled album of blink-182
Dood, the fallowing blink 182 album (Untitled) is basically box car racer 2.0. You really should check it out.
Dude I’m loving these.
been here multiple times.love the reaction. keep up
Jerry Finn!!!
I know the exact voice you said this in 😂
@@KELBEAST36OSame 😂
Great review bro - I recommend you check out: Such Gold - Misadventures
Funny enough, listened to Enema of the State during work and felt it was meh, then ended up listening to the entire Box Car Racer album and being blown away (only listened to I Feel So and There Is, but not the whole album). I really wish their side project became their main project, cause it is their best work ever! Gives me the vibe of Edgewater, Taproot, P.O.D and Pennywise all blended together
Also the drums always makes the band, felt that was severely lacking in the Enema of the State album, and I despise the drums in Fear Factory since the kick drums are the equivalent of the St.Anger Snare in every album they make except when they covered Cars
This album is incredible, I think the same way, it deserves another second album
@@91Definite It's too bad that these things happen, we miss out on having another excellent album.
@@andrewlermen who you telling? There’s a Blink 182 A.I. song of Boxcar Racer. It sounds ok? But who knows how that song would’ve really sounded if Blink 182 recorded that song and not Boxcar Racer. I think Boxcar Racer would’ve done it the best and they did. Mark probably had a talk with Tom about the songs he written but Mark just wasn’t feeling the tone of the songs. Those songs BCR done were dark, gloomy and emotional.
God I wish i was listening to this the first time. Epic album.
untitled (2003)
Lol it’s literally blink with an east coast flare my guy 😅 even got Mark on a song 😆 💀
Just couldn’t help but hear how many times you said you like this but it sounds like blink! 😂😂
Basically you’re saying it’s Blink 182 with East Coast flavor 😂?
How can you remember it and not have liked it when you first heard it. 😂 I was obsessed. Got the tattoo and all 😂
You should react to +44, another blink 182 side project.😊

Love box car masterpiece
This was badass. Unfortunately box car drove a massive rift in between Tom and mark but their new album has a box car song that was unfinished and mark plays bass and they are all friends again. It’s called “terrified”

Love Box Car Racer but I really wish you would try some Angels and Airwaves! Especially the Love albums! But honestly in my opinion the Self Title Blink album is a masterpiece!
