    This will be my 21st putter, all of which were chosen because they had some degree of weirdness. I would not buy an ordinary putter, too dull. Incidentlly, I have putted well with all of them, I go straight back and forward. Thnks Mr ShortGame!

    I had a friend many years ago make his own putter with a tubular head. This ensured 1. that the bottom edge never dug into the ground on a stroke (causing a mishit), and 2. No matter the angle of attack, the head never struck the ball below centre, which ensured a great topspin roll (no sliding).

  • @fastbusiness
    @fastbusiness 3 місяці тому +1

    There used to be a putter that had a face angled downward about 10-15 degrees. It was claimed that it started the ball rolling with forward spin. I can't recall what it was called and can't find a picture of it. It must not have worked since it didn't ever become very popular.

    I like it! When I’m struggling with the putter I too will turn to my 56 or 60, except for slow/long putts. I always seem to utilize a nice stroke when ‘blading’ a wedge. It’s also VERY handy when on the fringe or up against a cut line.

    Its like a Roll Face putter made in the shape of a wedge(kinda). In the past I've owned round faced putters and they really do put a nice roll on the ball but I had issues with them being a little harder to aim and get the correct distance. Mr.Short Game,even if you made zero money with your channel,you have to be having a ball with all the equipment you get to try and review and courses to play. Always enjoy your vids.

    When i had the yips, I used to putt with my 52 degree wedge from range. Had to go claw but do get distance control issues doing it. I would be pretty tempted to give it a try if it was not priced quite so high

    • @SpoilerGolf
      @SpoilerGolf 3 місяці тому

      exactly. the cool part about Spoiler OG for people with the yips, is that you can grab this putter and just focus on rolling the ball vs. putting stroke. Helps break that mental barrier that causes the yips. Putting is all about rolling the ball - we are trying to get back to that. Roll. The. Ball.

  • @GolfTestDummy
    @GolfTestDummy 3 місяці тому +3

    It seems like this could be 2 clubs in one. I know you mentioned hands forward gives you a better roll, but that seems backwards. If you keep the shaft vertical, you should strike the ball at or slightly above the equator. But hands pressed forward lowers the strike to below the equator, creating a bit more backspin and skid I would think. But, that could be useful from the fringe or even light rough around the green. Hands ahead, lowers the leading "bar" of the putter, pops the ball up just a touch before it rolls. That makes it a bit like putting with a hybrid from just off the green.

    • @SpoilerGolf
      @SpoilerGolf 3 місяці тому +2

      @GolfTestDummy shaft lean is dependent/correlated to the players set up and stroke - but understand your points. The cool part regarding shaft lean here - regardless of forward, back, neutral - minimal variation in shaft lean will still deliver 0 degrees of loft on the ball. And yes, pretty dope from the fringe. Can even do a patented "chip putt" from short lies in the rough...

    • @GolfTestDummy
      @GolfTestDummy 3 місяці тому +3

      @SpoilerGolf Yep, that's true, and regarding loft, forward press or no forward press, you'll have zero loft from the "face", since it's a tubular cross section, but I was more concerned with the point of contact on the ball itself, relative to the point of contact on the face. Curved sole of the club is fantastic to get the leading edge of the putter lower or higher relative to the equator, but when MSG said hands forward got it rolling quicker, I thought that sounded the wrong way around.

    Generally, I like it. I think the “face” height should be a little deeper (like the old Tear Drop), but I do like that the face is “off the ground” in front. I also like that the grooves run across the entire face, but they seem just a bit too deep. Take a Tear Drop putter and elevate the face and you e really got something.

  • @bennokurvits1420
    @bennokurvits1420 3 місяці тому +3

    I am not surprised someone came up with this new design. I've wondered for a while about the optimum place on the ball to strike it while putting to get the best roll and this new design begins to address this concern. The pool guy talked about hitting 3/5's up on the ball, which may be correct for best results in pool. Not sure it applies exactly in golf, though. I kind of like the idea of hitting it near or slightly below the equator and trying to create a top spin rolling action as soon as possible with minimum skidding or launching. This new design may help to do that.

    I always putt great with my 52 degree but I’ve noticed not as good as a 60 degree or say a 7 iron or less. I believe the BIGGEST difference between putting with my 52 and my putter isn’t so much about the contact point BUT the angle at which you hold the wedge as compared to any putter but that’s just me.
