- The Water Pie is one of those magical recipes that came out of the depression era where cooks with little to nothing figured out how to make delicious dishes for those they love.

My grandmother used to make water pie and add Watkins Lemon extract (back when the Watkins salesmen came to your house to pick up and subsequently deliver your order.). I was just a wee girl, but I still remember the Watkins man and the Fuller Brush man coming to the house.
Thanks for sharing! That is awesome
Good times, for sure!
I must say, I do love the depression era foods. Growing up very poor teaches one to be humble and thankful for whatever they could throw together. Thank you for this video! Blessings 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Way back then people learned to be resourceful
I like the crimping with the knuckle. Sometimes I use a fork after to make leaf like lines. Water pie! Who'd ah thunk it, Linda? :o Love your videos! Jill
Thanks for watching
Love ur tee shirt! 😂 this recipe is a brilliant idea! Looks so good! Thanks Linda. I might put some cinnamon on mine.
Hope you enjoy
Linda - I've never heard of 'water pie' but it looks good and sure simple enough to make. I does make me think of 'custard pie' and I would think adding some coconut, or some finely grated lemon, orange or lime rind would be equally tasty. Or add some fresh berries when serving. Thanks for sharing this recipe.
You are so welcome
I have had that she thought it was custard pie. Never knew. 🤣😁
Hi Linda looks very interesting I have never heard of it! ❤🎉
It is good
Thank you Miss Linda have a blessed day😊❤
You are so welcome
Like a PE can pie without the pecans. looks good. I've had this. A lot. Never had a clue what Grandma made. Thought it was a pie. How strange. She loved her sweets too. Wow. Thank you sweetie ❣️🙏🤗👋❤️
You are very welcome
You need to get yourself a Mrs. Cubbison's pie crust ring. I love mine and use it every time I cook a pie.
Never heard of it
Water pie!! Looks good! I'm wondering, if you had just covered the crust edges to keep from burning and not the entire pie if some of that moisture would have baked out of it in the last 30 minutes to allow it to set up better? Great idea to add lemon to it to make it taste like lemon pie! Love the videos!
It is best to let it set in frig for a couple of hours
That does look good!! Thank you Ms. Linda
You are so welcome
That looks really good.
So good
It’s really good recipe and easy to tweak to your own liking! Thanks and blessings to you ❤
You are so welcome
I've never heard of a water pie but l found a recipe for 'Hot Water pie crust'. It's a recipe of Rose Wilder Lane's. I found it in Laura lngalls Wilders cookbook. I've never made it but now that l'm retired maybe l'll give it a try.
Sounds great!
If it's the same as hot water crust (lard and water brought to the boil and added to flour), its like putty and you mould if into shape rather than roll it. It's for cold cutting savoury pies like chicken and ham, or game. It's used for pork pies here in UK, which are pretty popular(you eat them cold). If you google "hand raised pork pie" you'll see how to use it.
The trick to getting the first piece of pie out is to cut two slices😊
Yep
Desperation is the mother of invention 🙂
True
My mother used to make vinegar pie but I was just a kid and never had the recipe.I think these recipes come from the depression era or so I was told.
Yes they did, people back then had to get creative with what they had and it was not much
Looks good 😊 to me❤ I whip cream makes it look yummy yummy 😋
Thank you 😋
Hey Ms. Linda! 😊
Good morning!
I would put some cinnamon on it.
Put whatever you like on it, LOL
I just peeked in on your depression pie It looks interesting Linda kind of give me some ideas that maybe the last 30 minutes to add something to it I might try just to see what happens😊❤
Hope it turns out good, sure it will
I bet it tastes like a buttermilk pie those are good
Kinda
I like your shirt, that made me laugh 😊🥰
Thank you!! 😁
Might taste good with half that can of whipped topping on a slice
Yep
It looks good it kind of looks like a sugar cookie with cream on top
Yes it does
I wish we had the recipe online
You do in my video
So interesting
Yes it is
I want to try this! I wonder why you can’t just mix it all together in a bowl and pour it in the crust?
Don't know but it works
I wonder if it would be ok to grate that butter over the pie if it were really cold. Or frozen.
Pie gets so hot it does not matter if it is frozen
The women did what they had to do , for sweets diring the depression..😊
This is so true.
Inoyed talking to you last night ❤❤❤
Morning
The didn’t have tin foil back then
Probably not and their crust got awfully dark
Are cream cheese pie
Maybe
add lemon because we're not living in the depression.
True , but food prices are getting really high
It looks good but just does not sound good to me.
If you get a sweet tooth this pie hits the spot
