Yeah man, schools only teach you about stupid countries like France, US, Germany, etc., while Paul can teach you about Equatorial Guinea in a much better way
Evgeni Vutov They probably teach you about other countries because of big of a roll they’ve played in the worlds history, if not you’re own country’s. I don’t know about you, but learning about other countries that may or may not be involved with my your own country would actually help me better understand my own country and general history, like why the things are the way they are and how. But this is just how my school system works, maybe your schools have different philosophies.
What are you talking about? It was a Portuguese colony in the 16th century for a period of time but then it became a Spanish colony until its independence in 1968 and the modern country of Equatorial Guinea has a Hispanic culture, not Portuguese. Spanish is the main official language and it's the lingua Franca of the country other than their native and tribal languages.
Hey, off-topic from this particular country, but I got to meet and hear President/Prime Minister Jose Ramos-Horta from Timor Leste yesterday. It was just cool to meet someone you discussed (albeit briefly) in your video. He's got a fantastic sense of humor and is an extremely inspiring individual.
As a native Spaniard, one interesting and funny thing about Equatorial Guinea is that their Spanish is closer to our Spanish, not Latino Spanish. P.S Si algún ecuatoguineano esta leyendo esto me gustaría enviaros un fuerte abrazo!
Latin-americans say horrible things about Puerto Rican spanish but is in fact the closest to Spain's spanish (castellano). Even closer than EG's spanish since Puerto Ricans not only have strong genetic ties to Andalusia and Islas Canarias but also sound similar (seseo, LR, cortando sílabas, etc.). Just because EG uses the lisp (ceceo) doesn't make them closer to Spain. Buen día, desde Puerto Rico!
Elemaniel Rivera Labault Puerto Rican, Cuban, and Venezuelan are the closest to Canarian Spanish, not Peninsular Spanish. (In all its varieties), Second, it's not really a "lisp" This is offensive. It is the correct way (for us) to pronounce the words. A lisp is a speech impediment where people say an interdental sound instead of saying an "s" sound. Third, I was not talking "the lisp", Equatorial Guinea Spanish is closer to our Spanish in term of vocabulary, verbs and pronouns. Puerto Rico and Cuba are literately Canarians, they do speak the same like "guagua"......Buen dia, desde Gijón!

Hey man, i loved the video but you missed some historical facts like, equatorial Guinea and the islands were part of the Portuguese empire until 1778 when Portugal and Spain signs two treaties, the first one in 1777 here Portugal gave up his possession on the Guinean golf, and de second one in 1778 here the islands were ceded, in exchange Spain gave up some territories in the Amazon and a border was established between Spanish America and Brazil. I hope this might help, stay safe and continue with the cool videos 😁😁
I love the fact that Portugal didn't even control Fernando Pó and ignored Annobón so it was like kind of a "scam" towards Spain to get Catalina Island back (because Fernando Pó was too hard to control and Annobón was resourcesless) so the Portuguese influence was limited to just "hey, you're Portuguese territory now" and a bit of créole language in Annobón
The Equatorial Guinea page on Wikitravel says: Citizens of Barbados, China (PRC), Tunisia and the United States may enter Equatorial Guinea visa-free. Citizens of Cameroon, the Central African Republic, Chad, the Republic of the Congo and Gabon may enter Equatorial Guinea visa-free, provided that they have a national identity card or biometric passport. All other nationalities need to submit to an EG embassy all of the above (plus passport and *letter of invitation which is only granted from a Equatorial Guinea resident and almost impossible to get)* in order to receive a visa. Is the invitation letter part true? If so that is really weird.
Spaniard here. Even some people in Spain doesn't know about Equatorial Guinea. I mean, when some Equatorial-Guinean appears on TV there is always someone who says "Why do you speak Spanish so well?" And them "^_^U" Sorry about that.

As a Mexican, I always found Equatorial Guinea interesting because it's an African country with Hispanic culture.
You should also know that most of Africa was colonize by the Portuguese who are just like the Spanish people except their difference in language.

Very nice to see this after the research episode. Keep up the good work, Barby!
I did a spanish project on this country in 8th grade and I was in charge of the political and physical geography. (and history) very fun tbh
Was looking forward to it! Now your channel should grow faster.

Wow! Man that's the best history class Ever had in Malabo. Thanks
this episode is the starting point of the elaborative kind of episodes.
The Equatorial Guinea page on Wikitravel says:
Citizens of Barbados, China (PRC), Tunisia and the United States may enter Equatorial Guinea visa-free.
Damn that means I’d have to beg my distant uncle grandpa’s In Equatorial Guinea to send a visa. I hope that system is false
Spaniard here. Even some people in Spain doesn't know about Equatorial Guinea. I mean, when some Equatorial-Guinean appears on TV there is always someone who says "Why do you speak Spanish so well?" And them "^_^U" Sorry about that.
¡Saludos desde España a todos los ecuatoguineanos!

My mother was 16 when Equatorial Guinea got there independence from Spain .It was not an easy transition, and many of the Spanish were killed in the process. Lucky my mother and my grandparents were able to get out alive through the help of some of the local people.

I must admit I had never heard of Equatorial Guinea until today. I will be teaching an English class beginning week after next, and I just got an email with the names of my students. One of them is from Equatorial Guinea, so I decided to do a bit of research. Estaba bien sorprendido aprender que hay un país Africano en donde se habla español. Tengo una estudiante coreana, pero todos los otros hablan español.
