    Wow I'm from Equatorial Guinea and I gotta say this is one of the most accurate videos of my country I've ever seen on youtube or anywhere hahaha. Thank you for taking the time to do a real research. Es un placer ver que todavia hay gente que se toma la molestia de informarse bien antes de hablar de algo. Greetings from Washington State

      Hola, ¿como estas?
      ¿te puedo hacer una pregunta? ¿que tan común es el idioma español en Guinea? ¿todos ahi lo hablan o solo una mayoria?
      Me gustaría poder visitar tu pais algun día, saludos desde México :)

    • @noogai4794
      @noogai4794 4 роки тому +7

      Evgeni Vutov They probably teach you about other countries because of big of a roll they’ve played in the worlds history, if not you’re own country’s. I don’t know about you, but learning about other countries that may or may not be involved with my your own country would actually help me better understand my own country and general history, like why the things are the way they are and how. But this is just how my school system works, maybe your schools have different philosophies.

    As a Mexican, I always found Equatorial Guinea interesting because it's an African country with Hispanic culture.

      What are you talking about? It was a Portuguese colony in the 16th century for a period of time but then it became a Spanish colony until its independence in 1968 and the modern country of Equatorial Guinea has a Hispanic culture, not Portuguese. Spanish is the main official language and it's the lingua Franca of the country other than their native and tribal languages.

    As a native Spaniard, one interesting and funny thing about Equatorial Guinea is that their Spanish is closer to our Spanish, not Latino Spanish. P.S Si algún ecuatoguineano esta leyendo esto me gustaría enviaros un fuerte abrazo!

    • @elemanielriveralabault3462
      @elemanielriveralabault3462 8 років тому +12

      Latin-americans say horrible things about Puerto Rican spanish but is in fact the closest to Spain's spanish (castellano). Even closer than EG's spanish since Puerto Ricans not only have strong genetic ties to Andalusia and Islas Canarias but also sound similar (seseo, LR, cortando sílabas, etc.). Just because EG uses the lisp (ceceo) doesn't make them closer to Spain. Buen día, desde Puerto Rico!

    • @exth2294
      @exth2294 8 років тому +60

      Elemaniel Rivera Labault Puerto Rican, Cuban, and Venezuelan are the closest to Canarian Spanish, not Peninsular Spanish. (In all its varieties), Second, it's not really a "lisp" This is offensive. It is the correct way (for us) to pronounce the words. A lisp is a speech impediment where people say an interdental sound instead of saying an "s" sound. Third, I was not talking "the lisp", Equatorial Guinea Spanish is closer to our Spanish in term of vocabulary, verbs and pronouns. Puerto Rico and Cuba are literately Canarians, they do speak the same like "guagua"......Buen dia, desde Gijón!

    There are 4 countreis named Guinea.
    First is Guinea in Africa with French as official language;
    second is Guinea Bissau in Africa with Portugese as official language,
    third is this Equatorial Guinea in Africa with Spanish as o.l.;
    and last is Papua New Guinea, and this one is located in Oceania and occupy the eastern half of the island of New Guinea(the western part is of Indonesia); and the official language in P..N.G. is English, Hiri Motu, Papua New Guinean, Sign Language, and a creole Tok Pisin(this is lingua franca of P..N.G.) - all those languages are official in P..N.G., but on that island you can find around 852 listed different languages from Austronesian(origin from Taiwan) and Papuan language families. (you can read book by Jared Diamond (first book is Collapse; and the second is Guns, Germs and Steel). Also Papua has probably the greatest diversity in languages(Vanuatu has even greater diversity).
    Well Geography buffs, enyoj and have some fun.
    And for you master of the channel - you are doing great work, but i think you could put even more info in your videos. Keep the great work.

      No, Equatoria Guinea's per capita GDP is a lot higher than Botswana's. Botswana's GDP is around $16,000-$17,000, E. Guinea's comes in at over $30,000. Source: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_GDP_(PPP)_per_capita. Botswana comes only fifth in that list, after Seychelles, Gabon and Mauritius.

    I have just read a book called "Dictatorland" by Paul Kenyon, I recommend reading this. Having said that, we all know the story of Africa, European Colonialists, divididing and conquering, raping the landscape of its natural resources, drawing up boundaries, within these boundaries, are tribes hostile to each other. Once independence is established, what those who gained power did to remain in power, and the lifestyles they lived, while the rest of the populace lived in poverty, is truly beyond belief. Equatorial Guinea is no exception.

    Hey man, i loved the video but you missed some historical facts like, equatorial Guinea and the islands were part of the Portuguese empire until 1778 when Portugal and Spain signs two treaties, the first one in 1777 here Portugal gave up his possession on the Guinean golf, and de second one in 1778 here the islands were ceded, in exchange Spain gave up some territories in the Amazon and a border was established between Spanish America and Brazil.
    I hope this might help, stay safe and continue with the cool videos 😁😁

      I love the fact that Portugal didn't even control Fernando Pó and ignored Annobón so it was like kind of a "scam" towards Spain to get Catalina Island back (because Fernando Pó was too hard to control and Annobón was resourcesless) so the Portuguese influence was limited to just "hey, you're Portuguese territory now" and a bit of créole language in Annobón

    The Equatorial Guinea page on Wikitravel says:
    Citizens of Barbados, China (PRC), Tunisia and the United States may enter Equatorial Guinea visa-free.
    Citizens of Cameroon, the Central African Republic, Chad, the Republic of the Congo and Gabon may enter Equatorial Guinea visa-free, provided that they have a national identity card or biometric passport.
    All other nationalities need to submit to an EG embassy all of the above (plus passport and *letter of invitation which is only granted from a Equatorial Guinea resident and almost impossible to get)* in order to receive a visa.
    Is the invitation letter part true? If so that is really weird.

    A Guiné Equatorial, oficialmente a República da Guiné Equatorial, é um país localizado na costa oeste da África Central, com uma área de 28.000 quilômetros quadrados (11.000 milhas quadradas). Anteriormente a colônia da Guiné Espanhola, seu nome pós-independência evoca sua localização perto do Equador e do Golfo da Guiné. A Guiné Equatorial é o único estado africano soberano no qual o espanhol é uma língua oficial. Em 2015, o país tinha uma população de 1.225.367 habitantes.
