Love the Reolink Pre-recording feature but in a colder climate (I'm in MA) it went from 100% charge to 20% charge which disables this feature and it's never been able to recover from that battery drain
Appreciate this insightful security channel & Subscribed! Question regarding Eufy S3 Pro. How is this Secure Without Cloud storage when Away from home if the source of stored footage is stored Locally inside the HomeBase 3 unit that the thieves would surely destroy or take with them? Is there a way to download events to phone or better-yet laptop or any Away from home computer?
I’m not sure if they are going to offer cloud storage option on this model but remember, if thieves are inside your home, that means you should have been notified by the cameras already. Also, you can always keep the homebase somewhere where they cannot find it… if ever they are able to get inside your house without you knowing. The thing on “secure without cloud storage” is more for hackers not able to gain access to your footage if it is stored in the cloud.
@@LifeHackster Appreciate the reply just confused as to how the Home Base 3 could be hidden since it has to be attached via Ethernet cable to router? Also hard to determine if cloud storage is available option for S3 Pro cams. Eufy's page is just not very clear on this or many other things
Thanks, Hackster. Since following you I have bought 14 Blink outdoors and 5 Tapo c120's. I mount the Blinks low to the ground and use just for wildlife tracking: possum, racoon, coyote, and bobcats. The Tapos I use for monitoring human activity: porch pirates, meter readers, and jehovahs witnesses
Hey lifehackster, great videos as always. I recently changed my arlo camera to the new Imou cell 3 cameras. i have a 4 cam setups and i must say im really impressed. Would you be able to do a review on it. Your opinion would be appreciated.👍🏻
For uninterrupted recording on Eufy e340 floodlight & s330 solar cams, what matters more... Internet speed or Wi-Fi 6e or 7 router? And what upload & download do u recommend?
Starting next year for your reviews, you should start seeing how many megabytes every minute of footage takes up. Because some cameras are HR265 or h.264 and even though the resolution may be higher the compression technique with a Kodak used could result in a smaller file size. So it might influence people to buy higher resolution cameras because they will look better as well as take up less space.
I have been watching your videos for years and appreciate your great details in your reviews! I am curious why you do not recommend the Wyze V4 cameras? Personally I am blown away with the Wyze Cam V4 low light quality and SD card availability and for less than $10 per month full 24/7 and cloud for as many cameras unlimited.
Wyze is not on the list mostly because of the need of the Cam Plus subscription to get the other features of the camera like its Smart detection and notifications. Also, Wyze has always have a delay in notification for me... I do however use the V4, OG and the Pan V3..mostly as a backup recording if needed. It will be in my yearly Smart home tour.
@LifeHackster Yes I agree with you I do not like what Wyze has done with their subscription model however I don't mind paying the small fee for many of their cameras for both cloud and micro SD card 24/7 I appreciate that part but good points you make. And for me at least Wyze notifications are very good and immediate.
Hi, I’ve been watching a lot of your videos and I recently purchased some Wyze floodlight cam pros for my house. I did some reading and began getting nervous about how secure wyze cameras are. Is wyze safe in your opinion? And also is there any reason wyze didn’t make it on this list? And then finally, could you please comment on what company you believe shows to have the best security as to prevent any unauthorized access of my cameras? Great content and thanks for doing these reviews!
Wyze is not on the list mostly for needing a monthly subscription to get the full features of the camera. Wyze have several instances of mostly wyze programmer errors that caused some issues like users seeing other users cameras. These are not hacking events though. If you want the best security camera setup that you are the only one that can access... is to get an NVR system like Reolinks and connect the cameras to it..and importantly, don't connect the NVR to your network. This is the safest and hackproof way..the only downside, you will not get any notifications, and you will not be able to use the app... you have to check your NVR for the recordings.
Good intel. Im waiting to get Verizon FiOS b4 installing Eufy e340 floodlight & s330 cams. Gonna b tricky bec live in corner house with heavy foot traffic. It would be too complicated having Eufy & Reolink setup, correct?
hi LifeHackster, Once again thank you so much for a great review of these cameras. I'm currently a NEST camera guy and I'm baffled by why they have not release any new (badly needed) hardware in 3+ years. So I just purchased the new Eufy S3 Pro w/ S380 Base and also the new REOLINK 4K E1 Outdoor Pro to compare them. I like almost everything about these cameras but I'm running into a problem that I don't understand with their software design. With the NEST it will record all events 24/7 and puts markers on the timeline for a motion event and in what zone it happened.. But one important distinction is that Nest lets you define ALERT zones so I only get an alert for Person or Animal in particular zones. For example a person on my front lawn alerts me but a person in the street does not alert me but it still records them and puts a market on the time line. Eufy and Reolink both have a software flaw (in my opinion) in that if you define a zone it will not record anything outside of that zone. So you miss events that you might want to see later on and just not get an alert for. Does this seem like a big issue to you? Am I missing something?
That's true. Nest (before it was bought by Google) have a pretty good app. Forcing customers to migrate to Google Home was a bad move. You can set on the Reolink if you have a plug in or wired setup to record continuously and set non detection zones on the areas you don't want to get notified.
@@LifeHackster Thanks for the reply. Yes that is what I did on the reolink but the problem is there is no indication on timeline that an even event happened. So 24/7 recording is essentially useless as no one is going to sit there and sift thru all that footage. I ended up returning them both and I'm just stick with Nest for now.
Nice video! I saw you mounted the reolink 2v (or 3v) on the wall. Reolink says it does not support wall mount i thougth. Can it be used on the wall without any problems?
How’s the vertical view? Wondering how Soffit vs wall mounting affects the top of the image and the angle on the extreme left and right edges of the video?
@ my driveway is 45ft long. It is mounted on soffit on top right of garage (full yard to right, 95% of garage and smaller yard to the left). It allows me to see neighbor to neighbor next door to me. Vertically I see about 3 ft of garage on bottom right of picture frame but I can see across the street towards neighbors. I have a camera inside garage so seeing downward was not necessary…especially since this camera has zero blind spots to sneak up on it within the 180 degrees. It replaced one of my bullet cameras in the exact spot. I do see soffit on the top of the picture frame across the whole thing (10% or less of total shot). Unlike the bullet camera there is no residual glare of light from IR lights hitting it.
I find that the tracking on my Reolink E1 Outdoor Pro only pans and doesn't tilt. Is this normal behavior? I see that the CX version in this video tilts.
Surprised you didn't mention Reolink E1 Zoom for indoor. Pending your forthcoming Eufy indoor camera review, I still haven't found a better option than the E1 Zoom. Has Eufy improved their compression?
I bought a Swann doorbell thinking I'd stick with that ecosystem and build onto it. What a mistake. I notice none of their stuff made your list. Even their top of the range max ranger. Go figure. Have been looking to swap to eufy so thanks for this review. Anyone want to buy a Swann doorbell?
I was literally sitting here earlier today wishing this video existed. I'm getting ready to move into a new home, investing in my first home monitoring system, and I'm just so wildly overwhelmed by all the options. Our only real priority is getting something that comes with a professional monitoring option and that has reliable motion detection alerts/notifications but it seems like there is no best option without stepping up into something like Simpliesafe or ADT. Ring? Hardware outdated. Eufy? App sucks. Arlo? Possibly both. Wyze? Not reliable. Mind you, this is just general consensus on the internet, but still. My head hurts. Thank you for this video.!
I agree, Ring has been lacking when it comes to innovation. The Eufy Beta Program does seem like they are doing an app redesign that combines all Eufy apps into one with a refresh coming along with it. Not sure about the timeline on the release.
@@CaydenThyGamer Eufy seems like it might be the best choice right now. Can add Noonlight for $10 a month and the hardware seems to be generally considered the best/most reliable. I'm keeping an eye on prices between now and the holidays, see if any new deals pop up.
Sadly, the two different style Eufy cameras I tried both failed to record on motion detection which is simply a deal breaker. Will never buy Eufy after that. And when I say fail, I mean they failed badly. I could walk in front of the camera and it would not trigger.
Hey lifehackster, can you stream the eufy cameras to your tv using the homebase 3 like you do with the reolink setiup using eithernet behind you (where you can view multiple cameras)
@LifeHackster a content idea…A quick video on it specifically or include it in one like this or the annual house tour, around the type of SD card you use and types recommended for 24/7 CCTV cameras and other types if there are different card requirements.
We will see... I just used regular SD cards and they are fine. Sandisk for a couple of eufy cams that I have that record continuously, and I haven't noticed any issues yet.
I have the eufy c31 doorbell cam and it stalls and then unable to play events. Using the included 32 gb micro SD. Many similar complaints since 2023 when I Google this encryption issue. Over 2 weeks waiting for eufy customer support to give solution...they say they are working on it. Anyone out there experience this issue and have any recommendations?
I haven't had issues on mine. What I noticed though and I experienced this on all their cameras is on the events tab, when I initially go on whatever day I want to check, it will first say no events recorded and I have to swipe down to refresh it sometimes several times to make it load.
I would love to switch from my ring system. It’s so old and out Dated. But the problem is, there’s not too many cameras that reach a large portion of the property. I need a Wi-Fi one and I would like to switch to eufy but the majority of them only work off the bay station and the bay station doesn’t reach that far so if anybody knows of any good systems to switch to at least 3 to 4 cameras
Actually, the majority of eufy's cameras are not homebase dependent. Just their Eufycam series. All their wired and plug in ones can be set up to directly connect to your WIFI and also their SoloCam series cameras.
I am overseas and need an indoor security camera that is wireless and no subscription. I also need the videos not to be stolen if they take or destroy the camera. I want to be able to get notifications and to be able to see and speak through the camera if possible. Also if the home internet is disrupted will it conbect automatically when internet is restored? Do these exists?
If you want the videos not stored on the camera themselves, then you will need a monthly subscription for cloud recording. As far as I know, there are no brands offering free cloud recordings anymore.
@LifeHackster thanks...hopefully the other options are available. I am old and not tech savvy. I was checking out FB is on Amazon. 5ghz Indoor Security Camera, Litokam 5MP Cameras for Home Security with 5G/2.4G Dual-Band, Pet Camera with Phone App, AI Motion/Cry Detection, 360 Auto Tracking, Night Vision, Support NVR/Alexa
I noticed you didn't mention the Eufy S340 Video Doorbell in your list, is that because you don't recommend it or because it was release prior to 2025? I watched your review of the doorbell, and purchased it to replace the Ring Pro video I've been using for years so I could do away with the annual subscription fee. The features of the E340 Video Doorbell are great, if you can get them to work like they say they will. First, I'm not using the add-on chime or the Homebase unit like I think you do. I've connected it to my wired doorbell system so it powers the E340 and rings the mechanical doorbell chime inside the house. I followed all of the instructions and I'm get notifications on my phone, but not through all of my Alexa devices. I enabled the Eufy Security skill, enabled Alexa to connect to the doorbell, and selected my Echo devices I want to hear the announcement on. I can tell Alexa to show the 'Doorbell' on either of my Show devices, but when motion is detected by the doorbell, Alexa isn't sending the notifications to all of the Echo devices I selected. Video quality is excellent, and being able to zoom is a big plus. I might invest in the chime for the E340 so I can have additional storage, and keep the data inside my house. Until Eufy (Anker) and Amazon (Alexa) figure out why only some of my Echo devices play the notice, and get them all to work, I'll give the Eufy E340 Video Doorbell a 9 out of 10.
I think you are referring to the E340 doorbell. It didn't make the list because it cannot record (as far as I know) continuously when wired in..unlike the C31.
@@LifeHackster Sorry, yes, I was referring to the E340. I, like you, currently have all Reolink CAT5 connected security cameras connected to my home network that record 24x7 to the QVR Pro security system that runs on my QNAP NAS. It would have been nice if the E340 could record 24x7, and to my QVR Pro system, but I have a RLC-422W camera that covers the same area. I have four Reolink original E1 Outdoor PTZ cameras around the outside of the house.
This is something I can not understand in American markets. Take drones for example. The Skydio Drone out-classed all other drones including DJI. Sudenly they decided to no longer support the consumer market? Why? Ther Skydeo x2 has now lagged behind all other drones so much that it's not even worth it to buy a second hand one.
Reolink Augus 4 Pro has their own problem. If you are not setting up next to/very close to your router, it will not work. Their Wifi set up is the worst. Tried 2 products and has same problem.
I feel that most American companies stopped innovating because they all have subscription models and see no motivation to improve or create new stuff. Greed kills innovation
Actually, all of them will be difficult to hack. There are more instances that the users themselves will unknowingly give out their access or the brand's programmers make a mistake in their coding.
I have 3 S3 Pro cameras they are simply awful in the UK. They drain every 10 days, even with the external panel and with battery optimised on. I’m constantly up ladders and taking them down to be charged. Eufy support was a joke. We have grey skies no sun.

@@LifeHackster Really? I thought I'd seen a couple of thumbnails or something saying you were done with Ring. What brought you back?
Done with their cameras.. their Alarm is fine. Ring has smoke and CO detectors that others like eufy don’t have.
Honestly eufy or reolink if u can wire. And afford it. Rest is finding what works for you. Cuz all the budget brands cut something
Can’t buy the Reolink WiFi doorbell anymore in Europe. Always out of stock. Is there a new version coming?🤔
I haven't heard anything. Hopefully, it will be available soon.
@ CES 2025 🤞
Sadly, the two different style Eufy cameras I tried both failed to record on motion detection which is simply a deal breaker.
Will never buy Eufy after that. And when I say fail, I mean they failed badly. I could walk in front of the camera and it would not trigger.
Sorry to hear that.
No Ubiquiti POE cameras/system?
No. Not really. For the price alone, it will not be in this list. Nothing beats Reolink to price to features at this time.
Hey lifehackster, can you stream the eufy cameras to your tv using the homebase 3 like you do with the reolink setiup using eithernet behind you (where you can view multiple cameras)
Hi Hackster. Do you know Eufy solocam S3 at Costco. Is it the same s340? Thanks
It seems like they are the same but there might be minute differences, I'm not sure.
@@LifeHackster Costco they’re now solocame s3 $109
@LifeHackster a content idea…A quick video on it specifically or include it in one like this or the annual house tour, around the type of SD card you use and types recommended for 24/7 CCTV cameras and other types if there are different card requirements.
Sorry if you already have done this but haven’t seen it in the dozens of reviews I have watched or seen a specific video on the subject to date.
Thanks
Thanks for watching the video!
@@LifeHackster You are welcome, I find your material very useful and recommend it to my friends who are considering new or improved camera systems.
are you aware of a desktop app that works for EUFY like the one Reolink has?
Eufy has a web portal on their website -> support -> security web portal where you can access your cameras. Not the recordings though.
@@LifeHackster thanks, I tried it. It's crap.
@@LifeHackster Recordings can be accessed from the eufy web portal if you pay for cloud storage.
Just curious if the new 4K ones that work with Apple HomeKit are able to be used on Wi-Fi or just on the bay station
I think with Unifi's new "AI Port", most of these camera's can be used in unifi and have the ai features added to them.
As always great reviews! Thank you!! ❤
Thanks for watching!
Sorry to hear that.
I feel that most American companies stopped innovating because they all have subscription models and see no motivation to improve or create new stuff. Greed kills innovation
I agree.
Which system is the most difficult to hack?
Actually, all of them will be difficult to hack. There are more instances that the users themselves will unknowingly give out their access or the brand's programmers make a mistake in their coding.
I have 3 S3 Pro cameras they are simply awful in the UK. They drain every 10 days, even with the external panel and with battery optimised on. I’m constantly up ladders and taking them down to be charged. Eufy support was a joke. We have grey skies no sun.
They really do need sunlight to charge.
@ a lot of sun, useless in winter.
Are all these Cameras manufactured in China only??
Yes. Even Ring, Nest and Arlo are overseas made. If you want US made and you have the money to buy, check out Axis and Bosch cameras.
You sitting in insulation with shorts on scare me 😂
True.. itchy for a couple days.
Man, who doesn’t know you? If they don’t, they must be living under a rock 😂.
The topic of the video will eventually ride UA-cam's algorithm and will get new views from people not familiar with Smart Home or Security Cameras channels.
@@LifeHacksterA lot of Wyze, Reddit, and Facebook Forums always say they are going to wait for your review before purchasing a camera.
How about the Aosu cameras do you like or dislike them
They are ok.
Thnx love you video’s you got me in to the eufy cameras. But always looking for other options
Wyze still has the best app.
A lot of people will disagree but I'm ok with their app...just the frequent updates...
New Ring in 2025 will be easy. More 1080p lol
I'm pretty sure... they are way behind.
The amount of holes on your house 😅
There's lots of them... lol
